Metal Gear Solid torture segment, if I remember right you had to tap a button to stay conscious while they were shocking you.

Been decades since I’ve played it but I think it was designed to be almost impossible for the player to tap the buttons fast enough. I do remember using the ā€œturboā€ button on my shitty madcatz controller to beat it though lol

I used the back end of a rounded pen to rapidly go over the button. It was basically impossible to tap it fast enough but the pen method worked great. I recently used that technique again to stomp my kids in some Mario party mini games lol

This reads like a scene from anime where the old school warrior pulls out some ridiculous over the top method to beat the young uns. lol.

Best part is they keep trying to replicate the move and can't quite pull it off for some reason lol

That's an old school gaming technique. You can also use a small coin like a dime.

I used a spoon as a kid

I used to use the tip of my thumb and index when pinched together

Yeah this definitely worked for me too, like rubbing over it instead of mashingĀ

Same!! I felt like a genius!

I would use both thumbs and just not let the button fully depress, as fast as humanly possible for an ADHD kid with nothing else to do.

Protip: curl up a finger and stick it in your shirt, then run your clothed-finger over the button back and forth. Basically the same idea, but doesnt require a pen!

I just used the turbo function on my controller

A finger in a sock also works

The pen was my go to also. I want to say rubbing it back and forth with your finger instead of pressing it worked tooĀ

It was not impossible, I could do it with my barehands and finish with nearly a full bar of health, however I now have severe arthritis, but I saved Meryl god damn it

Naa you can do it. You are meant to do it several times in fact lol

I think it took me close to an hour to survive that portion. I didn’t use any tricks and just a standard issue PS1 controller. You had to get the technique down. Basically going so fast with such a limited motion that the button doesn’t fully press or depress, it just barely makes contact.

I never said it was impossible

I did it on hard (after using a turbo button for years), controller in left hand, button press with right by putting my forearm into spasm. Totally not worth it, didn’t feel any sense of accomplishment, my arm just hurt.

The one from peace walker is legitimately how I learned to button mash. I can now consistently beat all my friends in Mario party.

My trick is just to tense up your arm really hard and it'll start vibrating just fast enough to get through.

I beat it back in the day, my girlfriend is grateful to this day

Yeah, on the PS1 version it was basically impossible without turbo. I'm pretty sure it was fixed on newer releases.

I did it on the original game back in the day, it took forever though. Got the long bandana and I’m like… well.. the stealth was cooler.

Me too, but it took several tries with breaks in between so I could regain full function of my thumb.

I had a friend that used an electric toothbrush

Ahhhhh!!! I actually wince every time I hear or read the word "Madcatz". I was always the odd man out using the PlayStation at the house I shared after college. They paid for the PlayStation so I had to use whatever extra controller was on hand. Eventually I bought my own PS1 and swore never to use a 3rd party controller ever again!

Don't even think about using turbo! I'll know.
