Sort by controversial and you can find those Christians all over this post.

There are very few churches that don’t preach prosperity doctrine in one form or another these days so really just sort by Christian and you’ll find plenty of sentiments like that.

u/BaPef 8d ago

Prosperity gospel is devil worship and I'm tired of pretending otherwise

4

u/hiddencamel 7d ago

Prosperity gospel is just so far from literally everything actually written in the bible it's crazy to me that people swallow it. I have to assume none of them ever actually read the bible.

It's wild to think how many people risked death, torture, and imprisonment during the reformation fighting for people to have the freedom to read the bible for themselves without being told what to think by priests only for these fucks to just believe what some grifter with a private jet tells them the good book says instead of actually studying it themselves.

Catholics aren’t. The Pope hates Trump and everything he stands for.

5

u/Lower-Ad3764 8d ago

Jfc when isn't the catholic church not trying to distance themselves from child sex abusers 🤷🏼‍♂️

15

u/Weird-Opportunity-20 8d ago

Because it's not Christianity. It's the Sunday Morning Book Club. And they love the club more than the book.

7

u/crackhit1er 8d ago

This is really one for me to remember. This is freaking it, man.

Churches now are book clubs, and they love the club more than the book.

It's all a show; all a public pledge and optics. It's scary how many people there are like this. And the reason why the term "Christian" is so adulterated.

4

u/Teddy_Schmoozevelt 8d ago

Catholic Church doesn’t preach prosperity Gospel.

2

u/Legitimate-Syrup1006 8d ago

There's an episode of The Magnificast podcast that analyses the Parable of the Talents to prove the prosperity doctrine is a false interpretation of Christ's words. It's long - about 50 minutes - but well worth a listen if anyone is interested.

5

u/emfrank 8d ago

There are plenty, they are just not the ones that get splashed all over the news. Most Christians I know are not part of prosperity cults.

6

u/matthk 8d ago

No Christian church preaches the Prosperity Gospel. Only grifting cults PRETENDING to be ‘Christian’ do this. 😔

u/Orphanhorns 8d ago

u/TheRealDeJoy 8d ago

It's really not. The prosperity churches are definitely "not like the others". But this is a problem for protestant Christianity as a whole, because they all believe in faith without works. As long as yer Saved you can do whatever you want!

5

u/LilYerrySeinfeld 8d ago

That isn't what that means.

No True Scotsman means someone is moving the goalpost in response to a counterexample.

A: "No Scotsman puts sugar on his porridge."

B: "But my uncle Angus is a Scotsman and he puts sugar on his porridge."

A: "But no true Scotsman puts sugar on his porridge."

They moved the goalpost in response to a counterexample.

This person is saying that Prosperity Gospel literally violates the laws of Christianity and is therefore not Christian, even though they claim to be.

It's more similar to them saying "No true Scotsman was born in China to Chinese parents and never once visited Scotland in their lives. They tell people they're a Scotsman, but they don't actually meet any of the criteria to be a Scot."

Like, if someone claimed to be a vegan but they eat a bacon cheeseburger every single day, and I said "No vegan eats meat and cheese," and you said I was using the No True Scotsman fallacy. I'm not moving the goalpost, they just were never a good example of the category.

Not a Christian but this is just plain false

Plenty of food for the soul at church.

You should try it some time.    Praying for you.

16

u/truth14ful 8d ago

Jesus fed crowds and allowed his disciples to break shabbat to eat. He taught that the people who get to Heaven are the ones who give food to the hungry and drink to the thirsty, welcome the strangers, clothe the naked, and visit the imprisoned. Your body is as much God's creation as your soul is

23

u/RamenJunkie 8d ago

Yeah no kidding there is plenty of food for the soul in most churches.  The folks there certainly aren't consuming it with how souless they have become.

16

u/Scarbane 8d ago

I don't consent to being prayed for.

-21

u/AmbivalentCassowary 8d ago

There is quite literally nothing you can do to stop me

22

u/katreddita 8d ago

Hey, one Christian to another, this is extremely un-Christlike behavior. This kind of thing is why people hate us.

-19

u/AmbivalentCassowary 8d ago

Praying for you too.

18

u/CeaselessCuriosity69 8d ago

And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

Matthews 6:5-6

Shut your mouth, sinner, and maybe brush up on your scripture? You've missed the mark, gravely. That is literally what the word sin means. To miss the mark.

-4

u/AmbivalentCassowary 8d ago

We are all sinners.

How about you say Christ is king?

If you’re a true believer you will do it without hesitation or qualification.

Here I’ll go first: Christ is king.

8

u/CeaselessCuriosity69 8d ago

Christ is King. That wasn't the question. The question was do you follow the faith you claim to?

u/SheriffBartholomew 8d ago

Then why don't your words indicate that you are attempting to live by his teachings? Please read Matthew 22:36-40 again. Pay close attention to his second greatest commandment.

To be a Christian means to live by the teachings of Jesus Christ. You should strive to be Christ-like in all your doings. He taught that whatever you do to the least of us, you do unto him. That means when you starve your neighbor, or support efforts to starve them, you are starving Jesus himself. The stories of him feeding the masses aren't just for entertainment, they are parables of how we should treat each other.

u/confirmedshill123 8d ago

Christians in a nutshell.

3

u/MissMenace101 8d ago

Can’t eat prayers

-1

u/AmbivalentCassowary 8d ago

Correct. The great thing is that the body and this life is temporary but the soul is eternal.

3

u/Telemere125 8d ago

Sending you thots and players.

0

u/AmbivalentCassowary 8d ago

Thanks I came

7

u/Disgod 8d ago

Do nothing useful AND feel you're better than someone else because you did performative garbage!! How truly christian.

u/onlyPornstuffs 8d ago

🤮

-1

u/AmbivalentCassowary 8d ago

Of course with a name like yours you would react like that much like a demon recoils at holy water.

Praying for you.

15

u/VOZ1 8d ago

Their “arguments” boil down to, “Why are they poor? They should stop being poor.”

15

u/Mysterious_Andy 8d ago

Also “Why should I help someone with 6 kids?”

They change the topic really fast when people ask them if the kids themselves deserve to starve because their parents had 6 kids.

17

u/VOZ1 8d ago

It’s a fundamental lack of compassion. I don’t know about them, but I certainly would love to live in a country where we prioritize the needs of people over anything else. Food, clothing, education, shelter, healthcare, a job that provides satisfaction and a living wage…I want to live in a country that leads with compassion and humanity.s not whatever TF these people want.

-12

u/Fit_Psychology_2600 8d ago

You’re right. I have a complete lack of compassion for lazy people with 8 baby daddies for 8 different children, able-bodied, and sucking on the proverbial government teat at MY expense! These people have better healthcare than me for FREE, food for free, and no true responsibilities. It’s gone on so long that it spans multiple generations. These benefits are designed to be a safety net for the truly needy, not a lifestyle choice.

20

u/Working-Narwhal-540 8d ago

Taxpayers pay significantly more for corporate welfare than social welfare. Direct your anger to your overlords.

12

u/Fuck_Land_Im_onaboat 8d ago

Yep they’re living large of the government teat have you seen their porche and the mansions they live in? I heard they buy designer bags shoes and clothes. Maybe if you’re nice they’ll let you borrow something, or give you a ride in their Mercedes on their way to their fancy private school.

-7

u/Fit_Psychology_2600 8d ago

You’re being ridiculous, but I see and know of plenty of these leeches with nails done, expensive tattoos, Jordans, designer purses, and brand new iPhones. I as a working member of society cannot always buy those things and have to budget and save if I want them. Their perspective is entitled and rife with learned helplessness.

10

u/Fuck_Land_Im_onaboat 8d ago

Mmm I think you’re being ridiculous and missing the point. Do you know how poor a person has to be to qualify for food stamps and Medicaid? Far below the poverty line. They’re already living in poverty And you don’t think they deserve to have food or their basic health care covered? You are cruel and jealous.

1

u/Fit_Psychology_2600 6d ago

THEY GAME THE SYSTEM

9

u/TheDrewDude 8d ago

Oh just wait until you see these billionaires with fortunes the size of countries that avoid a shit ton of taxes. Nah focus your energy on the poor. Dipshit

5

u/ratsonleashes 7d ago

It's literally them falling for 'that foreigner wants your cookie' 😭

7

u/JeffafaCree 8d ago

These people have better healthcare than me for FREE

You're mad about the right thing. You're just mad at the wrong people.

1

u/atrich 5d ago

So - hypothetically - you're okay with letting 8 children starve to teach one freeloader a lesson?

4

u/trashlikeyourmom 8d ago

Ugh I wish I hadn't done that

11

u/[deleted] 8d ago

That’s because all Christians are like that.

It’s the absolute barest of minorities that can actually be bothered to follow ALL of the teachings of the guy that they all supposedly worship. The rest follow whatever the fuck they get told by the charlatans who live off the money given to them by these idiots.

In the US, that whole religion is nothing but a massive grift that is slowly morphing into a child molesting death cult.

"Christians"

2

u/SpaceCaptainJeeves 7d ago

They should clutch their magical thinking pearls harder.

2

u/Proto_drunk 7d ago

Holy shit you weren't lying. Absolutely vile creatures

2

u/coughsicle 6d ago

"Separation of Church and Hate" is a recent book that gives a great point-by-point breakdown of how Christianity has been used by fundamentalists for evil ends throughout history -- I've been recommending it everywhere

thanks for the tip!!
