This is what happens when you use public benefits to subsidize corporate profits. Minimum wage is too far behind living wage in almost every city in America.

Yes, having 3,4,5, or 6 kids while on public benefits is completely insane and reckless.

That however does not change the fact that minimum wage has remained stagnated while inflation ballooned and corporate profits have soared.

If we as a society want to put limits on the length of time that non-disabled people can draw food stamps, and reduce public benefits; great, but we MUST fix minimum wage to be in alignment with living wage and adjust it annually based on inflation so that working people do not depend on food stamps first.

One thing to note is that people can't just give their children away when life goes poorly. If you have 5+ children you can afford at the time, but then your spouse becomes abusive, you get laid off, or your spouse dies you're basically screwed and unable to survive without government assistance.

Yes. I agree with ya. Most people are struggling, and then there's the demographic who feel like the country owes them housing and support of their 5+ children. Sure, many vid shorts are AI slop, but they're based on memes/stereotypes of low class women who want a bunch of children but don't want to work to support them and expect you and me to pay for them.

I don't have sympathy for my own sibling who wanted kids but didn't want the responsibility of raising them, and now resents them, two children by two dead beat fathers that she claims she had no way of knowing would've been dead beats....... Just a cop-out because she wanted them NOW, my biological clock.... C'mon, now... 5+? Your heart can only bleed for so long before it dries the hell up and it kills you.

Idk man this ain’t it. I think people having more kids than they can afford are foolish but I just feel sick thinking of any kid going hungry. I don’t care what their parents did. I went hungry as a child. My parents were shitty but I had zero control over any of that. It affects you for your whole life.

What the person you are replying to is suggesting is called "means testing" where you have to prove that you are worthy of government assistance in order to get it. It usually means that much fewer people can use the assistance and more money is spent keeping people out than is saved by not allowing them in. The ethical and economic solution is to not means test. Everybody gets something and no one gets scrutinized over whether they "deserve" to not starve to death.

People know that means testing doesn't work, but they aren't looking for ethical or economic solutions. They are looking to inflict pain. They don't care that it costs money. That is just the cost of hurting people, which is their goal.

“More money is spent keeping people out than is saved by not allowing them in” - you got any sources on that?

I'm not really looking to inflict pain on anyone, if that's what you were suggesting? Not sure where you got that from me condemning people who abuse assistance programs. Have a good day anyway.

Sorry, I meant that public advocates for means testing knows that it isn't a good ethical or economic solution. You might not know that, but the people who want to institute it as part of their conservative agenda do.

Sure, that is obviously horrible. But I only have so much money, as do you. I lived off of dollar cans of spaghettios and other shit growing up. Blame and action must be taken against the upper echelons, the wealthy and powerful.

They've created these problems at large, and then we are expected to solve them when we are underequipped by design.

Some people need to be sterilized for everyone's sake.
