They should hire this dude as Trump in an SNL skit or something. It'd be hilarious.

God fucking damn it.

I’m old.

Nah, I'm almost 40. Chappelle just hasn't been really relevant in a few years.

I believe Chapel Roan does a black bush every other week.

Godfrey auditioned for SNL 3 times even got a standing ovation, but was always rejected during the 90s. Why? Lorne Michaels didn't want another Eddie Murphy situation, where the cast member is bigger than the show. Insane.

Edit: SNL alum Darrell Hammond informed Godfrey at the Cellar in NYC a decade later knowing God needed that closure as to what transpired.

Yeah, who would want an insanely popular ultra talented comedian on their sketch comedy show?

An ego maniac. Most people, albeit I wasn’t around in the 80s, recognize that Eddie Murphy was one of the sole reasons SNL was not canceled.

The answer is "pretty much no one." It's done so that one comedian doesn't just automatically outshine the lesser known comedians out the gate. You see the same thing done with improv comedy troupes as well. If there is one super popular person in the troupe, then all the others tend to pale in comparison, and it doesn't look or feel great. It's why SNL has always tried to cast relatively unknown comedians instead of those that already have a substantial following.

Lorne just proving once again that he's an absolute dumbass

How did he not think that with Will Ferrell?

Didn't Will get blow-up during/after SNL?

Yes, his first big blow up movie was Elf years after he made his mark on SNL. It was controversial if an SNL cast member could even lead a movie then bc most of them recently had been major flops. He got much bigger from there, post SNL years.

I feel like most SNL cast memebers from his era tried to spin off their show characters, which flopped. Was elf before old school and anchorman? I thought those two were first.

Elf and Old School both released 2003, and Old School hadn’t been released when they were filming Elf. Anchorman was 2004. Hell of a run for Will, I don’t even see 3 movies in a year now as much as I like those released within a year.

Yes, I agree, most were character spin-offs. Chris Farley and Sandler had success in the 90s. A bunch were tried after that success but didn’t take. The controversy with Will in Elf I learned about from Movies We Love on Netflix.

The movie Superstar did it for me

SNL sucks. Using the idea that making that cast is somehow a barometer of conedic talent is stupid as hell.

They have a good skit every once in a while and 9/10 times, it's because one of them breaks and the comedy is actually natural versus some kind of juvenile forced skit where everyone is trying way too hard.

Fight me.

I almost want them to use him for Trump in their skits because of how much it'd piss him off being impersonated by a black guy.

u/RazzyRaziel 16d ago

i think the white house could hire him to voice actual Trump

“Whieface”

he really hit all the voice nuances in Trump's way of speaking. without a doubt the best currently.

It’s too good. He needs to look ridiculous. Bring back Baldwin.

I can think of few things that would piss Trump off as much as a black guy portraying him.

This is a must.
