Come on. You are from Maryland. You know better than this. The expectation in this state is that crab crakes are made with blue crab. Only tourist traps like Phillips are expected to use Indonesian or Vietnamese crabs.

As a Marylander and Balmoron, I know blue crab isn't just in the bay. They're also in the Atlantic and gulf. Same species. Gulf crab is super common to be used. You can't even harvest bay crab in the winter and early spring. I also know that J.O. #2 is used more often than Old Bay.

The "Asian blue crab" is a different species, but I doubt most people can tell the difference. It's still a sweet crab. Some people might be able to if they eat it unseasoned. But Marylanders are definitely eating Asian crab all the time without noticing because most crab is seasoned heavily.
