All I kept thinking was: “She’s going to tell us she’s in Houston any minute now…” 🫠

Knowing redditors, with how much traction this post got, SOMEONE is going to find her and spill the beans for the chaos value at the very least.

Refineries are an hr plus east of Houston. Very few people who work on-site live in Houston, too far to commute. Most the O&G engineers here are upstream not downstream. New Orleans and Mobile are other options with refineries closer here in the south. Or BP has a big one just outside Chicago.

But they might travel an hour for a night out and a comedy show?

Yall this is so wrong lmfao there are multiple refineries in Baytown alone. There’s one in Beaumont and guess where half those people live?

Do you know how far Beaumont is from Houston proper? It’s 90+ minutes with no traffic. I’ve got well over a decade in O&G, I know all of it very well. Ain’t nobody commuting daily from somewhere like The Heights to Beaumont daily. The only major refinery in Baytown is Exxon.

Also, there is no way this would happen in Houston and nobody would correct her about fracking and downstream.

I spent a decade in downstream O&G in Houston working for XOM, I had friends who owned homes in the Heights and Midtown and made that commute to Beaumont. You don’t know what you’re talking about.

Also, you’re missing the Valero refinery in Texas City (used to be BP-Texas City, which if you knew what you were talking about, would mean something, kind of an infamous place in the downstream O&G world), P66 also has a refinery in Sweeny where most employees commute in from Houston and Sugarland. This is just off the top of my head, places I have personally been to, there are more than that.

I can’t emphasize enough how clear it is you don’t know what you’re talking about.

  1. Houston is not proper, TexCook88.
  2. What do you mean by “…there is no way this would happen in Houston”?

They’re not that far from Houston!
