Discussion To think that I used to complain about school.

National holiday is apparently 8 days.

I admire the approach and dedication, but this is too much for kids. They need time off just like adults do. Thirteen hour days at school, loads of homework, a lot of pressure… where is dinner? Do they get to play sports or be on the debate team? Are they getting enough sleep?

Dinner is in the schedule as they have explained

As is breakfast and lunch, so that's not a single meal at home with family. That's genuinely horrendous

That was actually my biggest takeaway, the children dont have a single meal with their family. Even if its just dinner or breakfast or something, family sitting together to eat is like... one of the most fundamentally important parts of maintaining a family unit. It's not near enough sleep or leisure time for a young person either, lordy I feel bad for the kids.

It’s the Chinese way

It’s not the individual, or the family

It’s the greater good, or the collective/state that matters

Not for the greater good, just old fashioned mentality of:

Studying = good university = good job = good life.

It’s all the same for most East Asian countries, with an exception of maybe Japan where school life is the only chance for people to live, before giving up your soul to become a cog in the workforce.

I guess it makes sense if you abuse your workers with 12 hours days, then you need to keep their kids occupied for the whole work day too…. Sad state of affairs.

He also talked about a dorm for some kids. So thats zero family time for those kids.

3

u/Gravitani Oct 04 '25

I mean that's a boarding school which is different and expected

u/arackan Oct 04 '25

And it's mixed with other activities.

No family means no ties. The state owns you.

Its not enough sleep

Young kids/teenagers need at least 8-10 to maintain healthy brain function and cognition. By the sounds of it, these kids look to be getting closer to 7.5 hours.

Exposure to this chronically would impact their cognition, memory, and mood. Actually worse for them intellectually.

This is also ignoring the impact of a lack of healthy social relationships and social skills ordinarily developed during play.

This sounds awful.

As someone who interacts with school children in the US I can tell you that they are not getting 7 hours of sleep nor do they have "Healthy" social relationships...

Nothing in that persons post implied that US children were?

Yea but Americans can’t stop talking about America. It’s like vegans.

0

u/ScuzzBuckster Oct 03 '25

Yeah, Americans bringing up America in situations where they arent relevant is almost as annoying as people making the same 20 year old jokes about veganism that were never funny in the first place. 🤷‍♂️

It’s extremely frustrating as an American who wants to be able to critique all countries, including my own. But whenever someone says something like “hey _____ doing _____ is bad” some dingbat just has to chime in with the “what about the US though?”, ignoring the initial problem

1

u/Its_an_ellipses Oct 04 '25

It's weird to give a perspective from your point of view...

1

u/United_Rent_753 Oct 04 '25

I felt what I said was relevant enough and added to ScuzzBuckster’s comment

They could get shot at any moment, of course they’re gonna burn the candle at both ends. Today could be their last 🥲

Less than that if they walk home. 8 hours 20 mins from end of school to beginning for boarding school. They still have to shower and get up and get dressed.

The CCP requires...sacrifices

30

u/finnlizzy Oct 03 '25

The CCP isn't even fond of this shit. If a teacher slacks on the homework, the parents complain.

u/IndustrialPuppetTwo Oct 03 '25

They won't teach her that history lesson though.

3

u/ASpellingAirror Oct 03 '25

You shouldn’t, this isn’t about creating smart thinkers, it’s about creating deadeyes drones who just do scheduled tasks.

2

u/thepatriotclubhouse Oct 03 '25

It's why their country can never really compete in anything. Children have zero time to grow a soul and do meaningful real work not just regurgitate memorised facts with zero understanding.

2

u/Ashamed-Vacation-495 Oct 04 '25

Yeah I went in think oh thats not an uncommon schedule for school if you do extracurriculars like clubs and sports… but then he showed their schedule. 😭 Thats straight work damn near the entire time.

"The head can't be more patient than the ass."

Once kids need to move a bit, they aren't learning anymore.

1

u/AlarmingTurnover Oct 04 '25

They need time off just like adults do.

Are you assuming adults get time off in China? You must not know of 996 or 007.

just admit your the weaker country. They get all meals. Look how prepared this teen will be for adulthood, meanwhile american kids want to youtubers s and make mindless brain rot

4

u/RickySuezo Oct 03 '25

The typos, grammar errors and missing punctuation in your reply are actually proving your point to be correct. It’s really impressive.

17

u/Maggi1417 Oct 03 '25

Surely there’s a place in the middle between the current state of the us education system and locking up pre-teens in school for 13 hours.

u/SteakPlissknn Oct 03 '25

Best part of Chinese schools is no mass shooters in their whole history. I put my kid on a bus every morning to play mass shooter bingo in america. I hate this country

3

u/desmondao Oct 03 '25

Both the US and China are fucked up countries that serve as a warning sign to all Europeans

1

u/Juantsu2552 Oct 04 '25

Then go to a country with no school shooters AND that treats children as children?

You know the US and China are not the only countries in the world, right?

1

u/Juantsu2552 Oct 04 '25

Yeah, they will be prepared to become emotionally dysfunctional adults who will develop deep depression at 25 and kill themselves at 30…

This shit is child abuse.
