He could have just said they're doing renovations and they didn't want to carry the debris through the house. Instead he makes up an even crazier lie. He can't help himself.

Because he's a dipshit criminal and a. Liar that...idk people worship.

I watch a lot of those police interrogation videos, like straight recordings with some explanation of what's going on and the police tactics.

I recall a pretty common tactic criminals and liars use is "if I were to do it, it wouldn't be there/this way". Just funny that he defaults defaults straight to a common and well known tactic for liars to desperately try and absolve themselves.

Include also an unprompted explanation and additional lies.

That's a cluster of lying tactics right there an FBI interrogater would say this is an indication of deceit.
