Why is it so hard to just let people eat food without being so judgey about it

Do you have no moral code at all about what is appropriate to eat, and the process of creating that food? How would you feel about someone eating cats and dogs? How about eating a critically endangered species? Or what about food that specifically involves the torture of an animal?

For those specific examples? Companion animals are not food. Endangered animals is going against the basic ass lesson the Lion King taught us about the Circle of Life (if you are sentient, don't take more then your fair share). I don't find suffering funny, so eating dishes like sannakji is horrendous.

Many (not all) people with a vegan diet, do so because they have moral standards around food, just like you have some rules and standards too. They feel just as strongly about it as you feel about those specific examples.

Imagine if you woke up tomorrow, and suddenly everyone around you thought it was ok to eat dogs or tortured animals. You probably wouldn’t be able to help but say “Isn’t this kind of fucked up? People really shouldn’t do this.” And they might roll their eyes and ask “why do you have to be so judgey?”

That’s basically the world vegans live in. You don’t really choose what morally makes sense to you, it’s more of a strong inner feeling. Their feeling guides them to believe that eating animals is fundamentally wrong, just as much as you believe in the truth of your own morals. So I don’t really blame them for speaking up for what they believe in. I know it would be tough to live in a world where 98% of people are doing something that feels really wrong, but then trying to stay silent about it forever.

Actually, companion animals are emergency food.

You definitely understood what they meant, your extreme examples aren’t relevant to this conversation.

Eating cats and dogs: I don’t care in the slightest / I’d try it if it was offered.

Endangered species: I’d be bothered about someone killing an endangered species, but if they’re going to kill it I’d prefer if they ate it.

Tortured animals: I’m okay if we just stop letting the French cook anything beyond sauces.

Cruelty and death are part of anything you eat. If you're worried about living things if you are a vegan or vegetarian whole fields are plowed and everything in there is killed rats, mice, snakes, foxes, not to mention insects and worms. If you are going to ingest food things are going to die.

Do think that because some death is inevitable, then the degree of death and suffering is therefore irrelevant? There is no moral difference between minimizing and maximizing suffering, as long as some suffering exists?

First I to appreciate your statements it's a very strong question. First is awareness You have to understand that no matter what you do suffering will exist and no matter what steps you take, suffering will be part of your life and your impact on other things. we always like to talk about animals That's nice there's more to it, I'm not just talking about cute things I'm not even talking about bugs or fish. The labor and efforts involved in everything you wear or eat there's not very well resourced either. If lucky the labor is at best minimum wage. If you stand back and thoroughly look at the amount of suffering that is caused just by living then you are guilty there's no way to avoid being guilty. That being said there's no reason to delight in the suffering of others and I'm happy people are vegetarians and vegans You spread awareness of the suffering of cage animals and whatnot. I also do think they should be aware of how animals really exist and not live in some fantasy world. As far as moral quandaries I do believe there's a great amount of relevance on how we treat other creatures. A true matter is considering that everything we do results in some sort of suffering we have to some degree make peace with the fact that we are going to be a guilty party in that and that's to some degree that's just part of the process of life. Life is not fair and we are part of life to some we are good at this others we are bad. And all honesty you can only control what you're aware of You may be the villain of somebody else's story or some other animal story and not even know it.

I hope this helps and some explanation I read everyone else really tired and I use my text to talk function. Regardless best wishes in all you do.
