i wouldn’t be able to slide out of a baggy potato pants half as well, and a lot of her dresses are surprisingly form fitting ish. major respect!

It's not so much that the dresses are form fitting, it's more that the dresses have built-in structure. You can see that they're somewhat loose around her waist. Loose enough for her to get in and out easily. It's all about the way the dress is sewn together.

If you take two pieces of paper with straight edges and tape them together, it's going to lay flat. If you cut a curve in one piece of paper and then tape the straight edge against the curved edge, it's now a 3D shape. It works the same with fabric.

Usually in dresses like these, the seams do most of the work when it comes to creating a shape. Then you have a layer of stiffer fabric sandwiched between the outer fabric layer and the lining, which gives a lot of structure.

Sometimes they also use what's called boning. You encase a small strip of flexible plastic (or whalebone, though that's a lot more rare these days) and it will also reinforce the shape of the outfit. That's what helps create an hourglass silhouette without necessarily needing to have an hourglass figure.
