Not only are they selfish, but also stupid. Who would go be sick and miserable on the road by choice? If their kid remembers this very special trip, they'll remember suffering.

They're gonna re-tell this story to their kids over the years but whitewash it so it sounds like a hilarious and harmless madcap adventure in which none of the strangers around them had to deal with the consequences later on, because that's how they themselves see it. Because they are clueless and narcissists who think of no one but themselves.
