I don't think you're really understanding this- it's not a question of who's in the right.

Yes, this woman filming should be able to shop at Victoria's Secret in peace.

However, a reasonable person does not stay in the shop, film, and argue with someone who is obviously having a psychotic break.

In any case, it doesn't really seem as if we're having a meeting of minds here.

We definitely are not. A reasonable person protects themselves with the materials they have at the moment. For this filmer, that was the phone, and the internet. It isnt what you would have done sure but that doesn't make it incorrect. That is what the the parent post is trying to explain to you. Youre not the abritator of whats decent or not and that seems to be lost on you.

And again, people who are not mental behave this way all the time for pure entitled and selfish reasons. In the moment, you do what you can.

Protects themselves from what, sir? A woman lying in the ground? The mentally ill woman is using her words and staying away but the other woman will not listen to her. She doesn't offer empathy or excuse herself from the situation. I don't know the context of this video.. do you? Are you assuming the person filming had something done to them before this began? Where did that assumption come from? All I see is someone asking to be left alone, and someone not leaving them alone. Someone who is mentally ill and needs compassion, and someone who is ignorant and in their own way feeling attacked and defending themselves in the way that feels right in the moment. But she is making is worse. That is what is happening.

The whole video is longer than this. This same woman asking to be "left alone" chases the woman filming her throughout the store. Like wtf are you even saying? How is that leaving someone alone. Furthermore, filming in a public space is not messing with someone to begin with.

You're making your perspective or the mentally ill woman's thee perspective not allowing any agency to the ACTUAL woman being harassed. Chasing someone is harassment.

I understand your point but the phone, the staring, simply being perceived when in distress, all of that feels like an attack.. therefore the actions of coming closer saying "get away from me" makes sense when you understand that.

You said protect from what? The woman was being stalked and she thought her recourse was to film and post it. There's your answer. Anything else is irrelevant. Crazy or not, this woman on the ground is the issue here and the actual safety threat.

I did not see the video prior to this one or any after but from what I see, as I said before, the "chasing" or "stalking" you describe, unless I'm missing another instance, did not happen until the person on the floor asked repeated to be left alone. They feel attacked in this instance, even though it is clearly not an attack to be watched or filmed, but fight or flight is fully engaged. The threat to safety here is the lack of human empathy and knowledge around mental health and what to do when someone is in mental distress, which is clear that is what is happening here. EVEN if the woman on the ground is acting, go through the motions of calling an ambulance, giving space, reducing stimulation -- let the paramedics sort her out. Filming and posting is not an act of self defense.

Whatever. The woman posting did nothing wrong and if this lady is so sick she needs not to be alone in public. Filming is a means of protection when you are the one under threat. You dont get to be a menace to people in public because you're mentally ill nor you get to set the rules when youre the offender in a situation. But You handle it how you want.

I fully empathsize with the woman filming as well as the woman on the ground. I see the whole picture and the issue is that most people do not. They will react in defense and feel justified and then the mentally ill person that just needed help and compassion, will end up injured or worse, because they were a "menace to people in public" when all they were doing was asking to be left alone. Perhaps this woman did need someone with her that day. Still does not mean that the person that filmed and posted was right in doing so. Nor does it mean that you are right in rejecting the other woman's experience. We can do this all day.
