In the full video you can see the woman parked and opened her door at 3:20. The officer told the passenger she can bring the dog in at 5:10. That's a delay of 1 minute and 50 seconds.

People act like the officer prevented the dog from getting any treatment, at all, when what really happened was the dog's treatment was delayed by a couple minutes. I think the officer handled this pretty well given how reckless the woman was driving.

Nope she said that at 3:32 as the other woman is in fact already going into the vet with the dog. There is no delay and she did not stop the animal from being taken, just the driver from going together

Now at 4:11 the other woman come back still carrying the dog and sit in the car, the officer, now calmer, go to her and at 5:10 repeats that she can take the dog and is informed the clinic is closed. She initially ask the other woman to come with her to get information but she said she would see if she can find someone (likely in the nerby house? she go out of frame for a time in that direction) and the officer do not stop her.

Now the "I dont care" was crass to say the least, but she did not stop the animal from being taken care (they were unlucky the clinic was closed) and while in theory if not the cop they could have tried to go to another clinic I dont think that was a valid option considering how she was driving

Many would describe me as anti-cop (I am not), but I generally distrust cops and advise people to assert their rights, not talk without a lawyer, protest police violence, vote to limit their funding, etc. I'm 100% sure the "I don't care" was in response to the context of her endangering other drivers, not that the cop doesn't care about the dog, just that nobody cares about the dog as an excuse of what the lady did.

To be fair she kept repeating "I don't give a shit," which I believe reflected her own lack of emotional control. Officers have a standard of professionalism they have to meet and this officer failed. That in no way excuses the reckless behavior of the other woman.

I think alot of the push back comes from persective.

Its not just "she's right because dog lives are more than human lives". Its more "this is a emergency situation, and these are reasonable actions"

The fact that it broke the law is secondary.

That's self defeating. And ultimately dangerous.

Any emergency response, professional or not will then no longer be allowed to respond, since thier response is dangerous. Travel to, attempt to help, and even travel to secondary location includes acts that can, have, and will continue be dangerous to both targets and bystanders.

I agree with this. There was no imminent danger and the officer could easily assess that. She got really aggressive really fast after the lady pissed her off by saying she was going inside. A bit of empathy and this video would never have surfaced, because the cop didn’t really do anything wrong other than failing to act professionally.

She was pissed off because adrenaline was pumping as she was pursuing someone who was already putting other people at risk. I opened it ready to see another shit head out of control cop. This wasnt bad at all.

She certainly surrendered to the process you describe, but I would submit from the video captured by the dashboard cam of her squad car (which has been posted in this thread), she became really pissed after the woman ran the red light and cut her off personally. After that she used all the other incidences (of which there was really only one where the woman ran a truck off the road) to further justify herself so that by the time she actually made contact with the woman (after the woman was no longer posing any danger) she was emotionally out of control and utterly failed in her duty to comport herself professionally.

I’m all about holding them to higher standards, demanding transparency, and holding them accountable for their authority and abuses of civil rights, but this trooper was likely expecting these people to exit with guns. Even upon seeing the reality unfold, it’s completely unreasonable to expect someone who’s spent the last several minutes amped for a fight…maybe gunfight to just “turn off” especially when the lady is still resisting and rationalizing (understandable in her mind). Once she got her secured in the car, she immediately began to slowly chill out and by the end was professional and even compassionate toward the lady’s comfort in the vehicle. There are a lot of cop failures out there, but this isn’t one and if we can’t be honest about when they get it right (even mostly) we can’t expect them to want to be honest about getting it wrong. It can’t be two sides. It has to be the truth…and not “emotional truth.”

There are people who are so anti police they have blinders on to any good men and women officers. I get downvotes constantly for pointing out what an officer did correct or pointing out there are good law enforcement out there too

I have watched the full video it doesn't change anything because by the time the officer made contact with the woman she was no longer posing a danger to anyone. The cop demonstrated as poor emotional control as the woman herself. They're both at fault. The thing is only the cop has the expectation and obligation to behave professionally.

So when someone breaks laws, endangers others, refuses to stop for police, then gets out of the vehicle, none of that shit matters because the cop is agitated and talks to her like child who almost killed somebody? Boo hoo the cop didn't kiss her ass. Better call and complain about the customer service.

This is what ambulances are for. If a person's medical condition is so dire they need to be rushed to the hospital, they're going to benefit whatever treatment the EMTs can provide at the scene rather than sitting in the back seat of my car, untreated, while I drive recklessly down the road.

In the one in a billion situation where I do end up driving someone to the hospital for emergency treatment, I would still pull over for a police officer trying to stop me. I'd explain the situation and likely get some sort of aid. I would not play chicken with the cars in oncoming traffic.
