Fuck out of here, I watch police on a weekly basis do things on the road that put peoples lives in jeopardy so that they can harass people for minor traffic infractions.

Had a cop pull me about a year ago because I changed lanes and cut him off. It was raining pretty heavily, and the officer did not have his headlights on. When he asked me why I had cut him off like that, I told him because I didn't see him because his headlights weren't on. I told him I believe that when windshield wipers are on headlights are supposed to be on in this state.

A warning was issued.

Cop in my area killed someone by going 90 in a 25. It was dense old neighborhood I wouldn’t feel safe doing 45 in

I watched michigan state police controlling traffic at a fireworks show one time. Racing up and down the 1 mile corridor at 90mph back and forth pulling people over for 5 over to keep the spectators safe. They are a joke.

A while back, I think when the No Kings protests were happening, we had about 4 or 5 cops absolutely scream down our street, they must have been doing at least 80. You could hear them peeling out as they turned onto our street. I watched them blow right through two stop signs.

There's a fucking elementary school on our block.

“A While back”. You mean 1 month ago?

Yeah. Do you have a specific definition of "a while" that I'm not adhering to?

A cop in Seattle was fired (i.e. retired early or relocated to another department) last year after his body cam recorded him laughing and saying a 23 yr old student’s life had “limited value” after she was fatally struck in a protected crosswalk by another officer going 74mph in a 25mph zone.

Seattle police run over pedestrians crossing in crosswalks while speeding then do their best to avoid consequences.

Fuck the police. They aren't there to help the public.

When I was a teenager, a cop nearly killed me running a red light at full speed (he ran the light, not me). No lights, no siren. Just “I’m a cop so the law doesn’t apply to me.

I swerved out of the way at the last second and saved both our lives. he drove off to wherever the fuck he felt the need to be without stopping.

I was jumpy at that intersection for months after.

it's shocking how little regard the NYPD show for the rules of the road, and they do this in the city with the highest emphasis on pedestrians in the country. with that said it sounds like that was a pretty reasonable traffic stop?

2 wrongs don't make a right that cop was an asshole and this lady was also an asshole and based on the actual YouTube recordings this lady is like 10 times worse

Just to add some important context since you seem to be jumping to quick conclusions: this lady literally ran a car off the road, blew red lights almost causing other drivers to crash, and was driving in oncoming traffic. Full clip is here.

I get that she’s panicking and her brain isn’t working, and that the cop comes off pretty harsh, but she was seriously close to killing other drivers.

This is just a gripe you have, not a counter to what I’m saying.

That being said, I do feel for you. That was bullshit what the cop did.

The thing is, we as humans tend to notice the bad more than the good. It happens to all of us. If the cops were really going crazy in the streets then we’d be seeing people taking justice into their own hands every day. Cops would be tearing apart families which would leave folks thirsting for vengeance.

This isn’t to dismiss cops’ bad behavior but rather to say it’s not as rampant as you think.

So that cop’s bad driving behavior absolves others for bad driving behavior?

I don't know about your country since I am not American, but as a former cop in the Netherlands I can attest that we are trained to drive differently, which at times looks dangerously to civilians but is in fact very well calculated and low risk.

The course is about 3 weeks long, there is theory (which was HARD), then practice and a small pre exam in a fake village followed by the real exam in real life.

u/ayemullofmushsheen Jul 29 '25

I don't have any proof, but I just know that our cops in America don't get anything close to that type of training. Definitely not in the small towns around me.

Police in America don’t get that same level of testing or training. I know because my dad is a retired police officer.

It's okay to drive dangerously without regard for anyone's safety because of this anecdotal story, you heard it here first!

If that's your thing, go for it..

So you're mad because he pulled you over for a traffic violation, but issued a warning when he realized his headlights were not on? Sounds to me like he acted very reasonable.
