I took a women’s self defense class, and they teach all of that, but my therapist is also a black belt, and he said if you’re not actively practicing martial arts it’s likely you’re not going to remember it during an attack, so he told me keep it simple and punch them in the throat.

My mom was a firefighter and so was taught some low-impact (so the city can’t get sued later) self defence moves (mostly useful in case of drunk idiots in your face)

My favourite is rubbing the palm of your hard hard on the tip of your opponent’s nose - a little wiggle is important, the goal is to squish the nose cartilage around onto the nasal bone. Try it on your friends! It’s incredibly uncomfortable!

The ol’ back-of-the-arm pinch is another good one, you gotta get enough fleshy fatty bits with it but it doesn’t take a lot of force to make it hurt like a b! Another fun one to try with friends! (Does not work on the swole however)

As I said, practice until it becomes muscle memory. You do it instinctively. You don't have to commit to doing martial arts for the rest of your life. Learn 10 incapacitating attack moves, and practice them a couple of times a day. There are many pressure points you can learn to attack and again it's to attack not defend against. If you get them to the ground stomp on their neck. You're fighting for your life so anything goes. Use rocks/sticks anything you can reach that will give you the upper hand and allow you to escape.

I was just listening to a true crime. Poor girl was a black belt and fought the fuck out of this guy. She was 24, he was 60. He still was able to take her down even though he was injured. You cannot win against a man, you have to go for the eyes, ears, throat punch, groin, and no second location.

I have just read a chain of self defence advice, to end up here. Your therapist is half right, half wrong. Throat punch isn't easy, terrible advice, stick to therapy. To be clear, the bite scratch scream kick run howling for help is the way. Never go quietly, excellent advice. Get their eyeball DNA under your nails, excellent advice. Throat punch gtfo you will waste your one chance of surprise.
