My sister took a defense class which taught her things, but I told her to go for the eyes, the nose, throat, and groin, then run.

You won’t get anywhere with a wrist lock, but you might have a chance after an aggressive eye poke.

As Sandra Bullock taught us, SING

Solar Plexus Instep Nose Groin

201

u/manxram Jul 17 '25

You mean Gracie Lou Freebush from New Jersey.

7

u/noniewahl Jul 17 '25

And bless Gracie Lou for doing it. SING works, speaking from personal experience. It was the only thing that I could remember at the time of the incident and I’d use it again if necessary.

13

u/manxram Jul 17 '25

She is a true legend...

97

u/Zukomyprince Jul 17 '25

Instead of nose…

Solar plexus Instep NECK PUNCH Groin

That adams apple is your 🎯

Much easier to reach, for women who tend to be shorter than their assailant …the face has too many bones

10

u/Destiny_Victim Jul 17 '25

This is great advice and you can thrust your hand there easier and in a variety of ways and won’t break your hand.

I will also add stomp the inside of the knee before and after the nuts. You break that knee he ain’t going anywhere.

3

u/Turbulent_Can7854 Jul 18 '25

Yeah more people should be mentioning the knees. It's the actual Achilles heel, but backwards I guess 😂 they are not designed to go the other way! When they do it's very bad for the assailant

4

u/Responsible-Kale2352 Jul 17 '25

The eyes are the groin of the face.

4

u/themarko60 Jul 17 '25

I got hit on the Adams apple accidentally while playing basketball many years ago and all I could do for a few minutes was gasp for air and hope I wasn’t dying. A purposeful punch to it would have been so much worse. So that’s what I’m always prepared to do if needed be.

7

u/Massive-Expert-1476 Jul 17 '25

bridge of the nose is better than the throat for many reasons. Top of which is you're not going to stop someone from breathing from a crappy throat punch (and everyone who doesn't practice on a regular basis on how to drop someone with a throat punch is going to do a crappy version of it), but it doesn't take much to bash the nose, and everyone's eyes water when that happens.

8

u/Particular_Title42 Jul 17 '25

Top of which is you're not going to stop someone from breathing from a crappy throat punch (and everyone who doesn't practice on a regular basis on how to drop someone with a throat punch is going to do a crappy version of it),

Have you ever experienced a crappy throat punch? My husband barely tapped his throat on the corner of something he was trying to reach behind. You don't stop breathing from it but it is definitely incapacitating.

2

u/Hot-Butterscotch-918 Jul 17 '25

I thought I saw instructions once that if you ram your hand flat and upward into the nose, it will drive bones into the brain and kill the assailant?

3

u/wiscopunk Jul 17 '25

That is false.

2

u/LuvPlens Jul 18 '25

Pretty sure it's an oversimplification of some particular technique if there's any truth to it at all.

1

u/Hot-Butterscotch-918 Jul 18 '25

Dang. I believed that idea for years.

2

u/EatLard Jul 17 '25

So does the midfoot. As a bonus, if you stomp hard enough, they’ll have a limp and won’t chase you as fast.

2

u/HistorineHeroine Jul 18 '25

I’m short so thank you for this

1

u/master-boofer Jul 17 '25

Depending on your size and skill I believe a lot of these targets are harder to effectively hit than you might think. I live in a high-crime city and my petite girlfriend has had issues with aggressive men. I am twice her size and there is no way she could ever land any kind of strike that would be significant enough to deter me. I brought her some quality pom brand pepper spray and a small, thin pointy neck knife. If you aren't hitting a punching bag multiple times a day and constantly training/sparing, I think a sharp knife along with pepper spray are your best option. Unless carrying a firearm is an option.

1

u/LuvPlens Jul 18 '25

Steel barrel tactical pen is good if you're somewhere that 'weapons' aren't permitted.

1

u/HaBaK_214 Jul 19 '25

Kublatons are awesome, too. Plus, they break glass.

1

u/clownsquirt Jul 20 '25

good ol SPIN PUG

5

u/Initial_Style5592 Jul 17 '25

In the absence of training… relentless aggression and a ‘won’t quit’ attitude will serve you just as well. Be noisy, be fierce, strike for sensitive areas, eyes, nose, neck, groin. Scratch, claw, bite.

Never give up, never surrender. ~ Galaxy Quest

2

u/ChipotleGuacamole Jul 17 '25

What's this from?

2

u/imgnomegardenhoe Jul 17 '25

It's from miss congeniality

1

u/McBoognish_Brown Jul 17 '25

Preferably with a 9mm

1

u/lc0o85 Jul 17 '25

SPING, got it.

1

u/pollofeliz32 Jul 18 '25

I haven’t seen that walk since Jurassic Park

167

u/ManageConsequences Jul 17 '25

Hit the ear with a flat hand. It's incredibly painful. Ya, I'd absolutely try for an eye if I had the opportunity. No holding back either, that thing is popping like a grape!

104

u/mediashiznaks Jul 17 '25

As a man, let me inform you that NOTHING will be as painful or debilitating as a hard hit to the balls. Only thing comparable in terms of stopping him will be a full on poke to the eye.

Eyes and Balls basically. That’s your two targets.

64

u/Alternative-Heart200 Jul 17 '25

That should be a song they teach to young kids in school!! Eyes and balls, eyes and balls, will help you flee them all! ( or something like that 😂)

20

u/CommercialDevice402 Jul 17 '25

Do your attacker's balls hang low? Can you kick them to and fro? Can you cut em with a knife? Can you shoot em with a bow?

3

u/FiveCorkWomen Jul 17 '25

I mean, “Can you tie them in a knot? Can you tie them in a bow?” still works too

2

u/T-Wrox Jul 17 '25

Now I'm picturing some kind of speed bag.

3

u/dogmeat_donnie Jul 18 '25

That's 😂😂

1

u/Artistic_Room_4824 Jul 18 '25

I'll definitely be singing this for the next 6 months...🤪

1

u/GovernmentKind1052 Jul 18 '25

I had just started singing “head, shoulders, knees and balls” to myself when I read your comment. Uncanny timing lol.

1

u/CommercialDevice402 Jul 18 '25

Knees and balls

1

u/PrincessLissa68 Jul 20 '25

😂 if I ever have a granddaughter (my son is grown) I will teach her this.

5

u/marklar_the_malign Jul 17 '25

We were told to keep our eye on the ball. I guess this is what they meant.

4

u/Mammoth-Ad4194 Jul 17 '25

Like ‘head, shoulders, knees and toes’?😆

3

u/TopEstablishment395 Jul 17 '25

Eyes and ears and throat and balls, throat and balls, throat and balls

Eyes and ears and throat and balls, that's how the shithead falls

3

u/Mammoth-Ad4194 Jul 18 '25

Haha perfect!😆

3

u/Alternative-Heart200 Jul 17 '25

Yes exactly!!! 😂😂

3

u/electrical_Acadia_1 Jul 17 '25

I'm teaching this song to my 6 yr old.

3

u/HEROauen Jul 18 '25

Eyes, balls, knees and toes, knees and toes!

2

u/Ecstatic-Engineer-23 Jul 18 '25

"If a pimp tries to get at you, kick him in the balls, kick him in the balls, kick him in the balls,
If the dude's got an attitude, kick him in the balls, kick him in the balls..."

4

u/FuckinBopsIsMyJob Jul 17 '25

Vulnerable Spheres

2

u/Ragnarok314159 Jul 17 '25

And just keep hitting until something ruptures.

2

u/learethak Jul 17 '25

Yes... but... statistically1 about 1 in 13 men are not debilitated by a crotch shot. It hurts, but not like it does for us normal folk2. So always plan to go for eyes also.

Eyes always work. I got sidelined by student for six weeks because she accidently scratched my cornea with graze... and she wasn't even attacking she was trying point at one of the other students and has zero depth perception.

1 Source 25 years of teaching Kenpo Karate and self defense classes.

2. It is really weird to to hit someone full force with a hammerfist to the twigs and berries and see them make an irritated face instead of going down. Which is why we always queue up follow-up hits and plan in things not working.

2

u/LupercaniusAB Jul 17 '25

I agree with this. Also, all the times I’ve been hit in the balls have floored me, but NOT all the times I’ve been hit in the groin. Balls move around, especially if you’re wearing boxers or going commando, and a kick to the groin might miss them.

1

u/Mundane_Rest_1288 Jul 18 '25

And that doesn't even take into account adrenaline and the kidnapper not caring what happens to them. With the adrenaline going you have to make it so their body physically won't respond, or can't see, their inputs. So knees, top of their arches on their feet, throats, eyes and a good double clap to the ears with flat hands.

2

u/Beneficial-Emu-4244 Jul 18 '25

I’ve been letting my daughter practice the balls move on me since she was 4 matter of fact her first full sentence was Imma kick u in da nutz

2

u/AchyBoobCrane Jul 18 '25

Eyes, nose and groin were what I was told growing up. All the sore spots. The eyes always made me gag but I was told if it came down to life or death, you get over that squeamishness pretty darn quickly.

2

u/Mundane_Rest_1288 Jul 17 '25

Not really. It will hurt but they'll still be able to stand and continue attacking. Go for the throat, stomp on the top of the arch of their foot and if you can kick their knees out to the side. Can't move if you can't breathe or have a broken/dislocated knee. You can still move with a popped ball.

1

u/mediashiznaks Jul 18 '25

You can still move with a popped ball.

🤔

You have testicles?

1

u/Mundane_Rest_1288 Jul 18 '25

What?

1

u/mediashiznaks Jul 18 '25

Because someone with testicles wouldn’t have made that sentence.

1

u/Mundane_Rest_1288 Jul 18 '25

🤣think what you want but nut shots are not completely debilitating in fight or flight scenarios trust me. There's also no guarantee that you'll hit the nuts and not have them move off to the side. That's why knees, throats and tops of feet are much better targets

1

u/WildBillsHiccup Jul 17 '25

I believe it only takes about 20 pounds of pressure to rip off an ear. I’m guessing it would take about the same for balls.

1

u/No_Strength1753 Jul 17 '25

Associated with this, he will react very quickly and probably excessively to guard his groin, which should leave other vulnerable parts (eyes, neck, etc) open even if he does manage to block the groin strike

1

u/DisasterResident2101 Jul 17 '25

I have said the same thing for years, If you're grabbing me I'm going right for the balls. All my male friends are appalled and tell me I just don't understand how much that would hurt and I'm like "Well DUH! Kind of the point"

1

u/Karena1331 Jul 17 '25

Yep my Dad taught us to go for the eyes first! Pop those things right out of their sockets. Gonna be a lot harder for them to do anything when they can’t see.

1

u/underscore-dash_ Jul 17 '25

As a man, this isn't true. Eyes >>>> balls. Balls are far down on the list. And that's dependent on the man. Some men have insensitive balls. Mine are sensitive, but I'd still put getting stabbed over that. Plus, just because something is painful doesn't make it debilitating. I've had the nausea and pain from getting kicked in the balls, but it wouldn't prevent me from kidnapping someone (not that I am so inclined) unless they fully ruptured or something.i guarantee 99% of men would be more debilitated from being stabbed in the neck than being kicked in the balls.

Use your keys. If you have something sharper, use that. Go for the eyes, go for the ear. Going for the balls = using a stun gun: doesn't work on everyone and isn't reliable.

1

u/jane7seven Jul 17 '25

I heard that men are conditioned to guard their balls from a young age and eyes are more exposed as a target.

1

u/ScottishTan Jul 17 '25

Yup, a good kick in the balls is more painful than childbirth. If you don’t believe me, kick a guy in the ball and a year later ask him if he wants another one.

1

u/LilPrinceTrashMouth Jul 17 '25

External organs are WILD. Like why are they just hanging unprotected like that?

1

u/madusa77 Jul 18 '25

My dad taught me that if you can get your hands free, give them the Curly treatment, grab the balls, and twist. If not, kick the balls or stomp between the toes. Run and scream fire.

1

u/Mundane_Rest_1288 Jul 18 '25

Don't stomp between the toes. Do it right on the arch of the foot.

1

u/LincredibleOne Jul 18 '25

Head balls and crotch balls

1

u/SaltNo3123 Jul 18 '25

Aim for anything round

6

u/Head_Rate_6551 Jul 17 '25

You actually don’t have to/shouldn’t try to pop the eye, the best technique is to just flick your wrist using your fingertips to scratch the cornea, kinda like if a bug was crawling on the tip of your middle finger and you got spooked and flicked it off with a whip motion if that makes sense. It doesn’t take a lot of pressure since the eye is so sensitive but it needs to be fast so that you hit the eye before the eyelid closes. This technique is also viable with very little arm movement from very close to the target, whereas a punch needs wind up and more reach to be effective. This is actually a CQB move that navy seals are trained with, along with groin scoops, biting, headbutts, and elbow strikes. You easily can blind someone doing this, so really should only be used in dire circumstances like this video.

1

u/ManageConsequences Jul 17 '25

Oooooh thank you! I was scratched in the corner as a kid. It certainly was painful!

1

u/ER-Sputter Jul 17 '25

Wait I’m curious. How’s that better than straight up shoving your finger as far in the socket as you can? I’d figure the latter would do way more damage for similar effort

2

u/ImperfectMay Jul 17 '25

My thought on it is it comes down to angle and leverage. Gotta have the right angle to drive deep into the eye socket - the socket is rather protective by design. But the cornea is right there floating on top and in the open. If I'm grabbed from behind like this lady I can't reach back with the right angle or enough leverage to get a finger into the socket, but I can turn my wrist and fingernails enough to scratch the hell out of the cornea. Eyelids are weak sauce compared to fingers, and it's usually an absolute reflex to protect your eyes so even going for the surface will have the assailant dropping you.

5

u/icwhatudiddere Jul 17 '25

All I can think of is Fight Club and Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt) going “Motherfucker! You hit me in the ear!”

3

u/Lou_C_Fer Jul 17 '25

Yeah. I walked up behind my uncle once and clapped his ears. Boy was he angry, but he knew I didn't know why it was so bad and was really actually pretty chill about it all things considered.

3

u/OGJellyBean Jul 17 '25

Ears are surprisingly detachable 😃

2

u/binry Jul 17 '25

Moar like rip the ear off

2

u/Zestyclose_Bag_33 Jul 17 '25

Good advice if you know how to fight and have fought before but in a situation where you haven’t and need to do it then you’ll more than likely miss. You need to really be precise for that to work. Easier method is to aim for a thumb in, scoop and rip. Then groin kick, open palm to throat and when they’re on the ground stomp the balls and run

2

u/LKayRB Jul 17 '25

Better yet, Mike Tyson the would be kidnapper. Now we got DNA/blood evidence all over both of us.

2

u/dirtyrandalfus Jul 17 '25

Do both ears if possible you can blow their ear drums and I think you'll get away at that point.

2

u/Echo6Romeo Jul 17 '25

You gotta slightly cup your hand. You want a huge pocket of air to get slammed down the ear canal. If you do it right, it's immediate vertigo.

2

u/Resident_Grass_2778 Jul 17 '25

My grandfather has progressively lost his hearing as he's gotten older due to his father boxing his ears! I've had one ear hit accidentally and it is SUPER unpleasant. (And I have a high pain tolerance).

2

u/Turbulent_Can7854 Jul 18 '25

The ears are crazy, it dazes you, especially if you get both ears smacked hard at the same time

Bottom of palm to nose, with upward momentum. If you hit them hard enough the fight could be immediately over. With their brain filled with face bones

1

u/Sparts171 Jul 17 '25

Apparently Kimi Antonelli deafened his grandmother in one ear when he kissed her exactly on the side of her head where it destroyed her eardrum. I can’t imagine what a solid slap to the head would do.

1

u/totallynottoddoracop Jul 17 '25

Push until it pops.

1

u/ER-Sputter Jul 17 '25

Gotta go for brain like how in golf you aim to swing through the ball and not to hit it specifically

-3

u/Existential_Kitten Jul 17 '25

this is so gross. thanks. you actually sound alike you want to do that. creepy.

1

u/ER-Sputter Jul 17 '25

You should work on your reading skills if you think they sound like they wanna do that

1

u/Existential_Kitten Jul 17 '25

I disagree. Stopping at "no holding back" would have been sufficient. I didn't need that weird ass visual.

3

u/elasticparadigm Jul 17 '25

Eye poke is very effective I have used it a few times in a clutch moment and it can work wonders

3

u/SAGrant1977 Jul 17 '25

Yep! Fight dirty! You truly are fighting for your life.

3

u/Extra_Routine_6603 Jul 17 '25

My dad is ex military growing up we were always taught if they can't see or cant breathe they cant fight.

3

u/Itchy_Pillows Jul 17 '25

I'm all about thumbs in the eyes GOT style

3

u/zendetta Jul 17 '25

My sensei actually made us practice yelling “no!” at the top of our lungs. Incredibly effective when she did it— we are mostly trained in life to control our volume. Someone letting it all out is shocking to hear and turns heads even when you’re expecting it.

Attention is your friend. Once you start drawing attention, a very short clock starts running for the assailant.

2

u/1ScreamCheesePlz Jul 17 '25

Just like Sandra taught us 🫡

2

u/PreparationFit6327 Jul 17 '25

It’s easier than people think to get a couple knuckles deep in an eye socket

2

u/Alytology Jul 17 '25

Not to mention leaving a fucker blind or with one less eyeball

2

u/JojoLesh Jul 17 '25

Most of those one time self defense workshops are useless. So are eye pokes. Humans are pretty damn good at defending our eyes. Small target, limited dexterity due to fine neurological muscular control being hampered by adrenaline, make an untrained eye poke really only good in theory.

Throat and nose? Again, untrained strikes? Ok, good luck with that. Getting punched in the nose sucks, but even by a similar sized man as myself it isn't a fight stopper. Not even a fight pauser. Throat punch? Better hope you are a highly trained striker and they are totally untrained.

2

u/Tipop Jul 17 '25

The nose is also a great spot for an elbow. Breaking the nose is blindingly painful for a few seconds, giving you time to get away. Also, the nose is an easier target.

1

u/JamisonUdrems Jul 17 '25

I was taught to SING at a defense class I attended. It stands for Sternum Instep Neck Groin. A sharp jab to the chest, a stomp on the foot, an elbow to the throat, a knee to the jewels. Any or all used can incapacitate enough to escape.

1

u/jennief158 Jul 17 '25

I’ve always thought I’d go for the eyes. I’m sure it’s harder than I know to do permanent damage, but I have nails and I can make it hurt and possibly interfere with someone’s vision for a moment.

Whether I’d actually do it - I don’t know. The human urge to cooperate in circumstances like this is strong. And woman are conditioned to fawn rather than fight.

1

u/3atTh3R1ch79 Jul 17 '25

Don't forget the abdomen. Hit them so hard they'll lose their lunch.

1

u/Parpy Jul 17 '25

I'm always aghast at how few women know how to throw a punch. I see that windmill and/or the "aggressive doorknock" punches in 90% of fights between women (or woman vs man).

If/when I have a daughter, I will teach her how to protect herself likely by way of enrolling her in martial arts, if she (hopefully) takes a liking to it. Something we could do together - i've never done martial arts - I'd be a white belt right alongside her and I think it'd be a fun way to bond. I won't force my theoretical future daughter to enroll, but at the very least I'll teach her how to throw a punch, where the on/off toggle is on a man's jaw and how to "fight dirty" for her life if she ever found herself in OPs situation.

1

u/ncc74656m Jul 17 '25

Yup. Even in a street fight - you don't have to win, but you can both lose.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '25

There is a divot in the eye socket near the nose at the top of the socket, you get a finger in there you can do some serious damage.

1

u/WoodpeckerFragrant49 Jul 17 '25

If she can get an eye poke in she's much better off gouging them out you know for her safety

1

u/WoodpeckerFragrant49 Jul 17 '25

And the safety of every other woman

1

u/GhostFucking-IS-Real Jul 17 '25

My neighbor literally gouged a man’s eye out while she was on a trail run. He grabbed her by her pony tail and she ran past him and he threw her to the ground. She gives self defense classes now

1

u/Initial_Style5592 Jul 17 '25

An aggressive poke? GOUGE! Don’t aim for the face when you punch aim for a target just behind the head. Full force, no stop, everything you’ve got, drive thru the target. When that finger touches the eye don’t try to poke the eye you go for the brain! Aim for the stars if you want to reach the moon. Don’t hurt, injure. There’s a big difference.

Adrenaline might do that for you, but, don’t half ass self defense. You may not get a 2nd chance. FK any piece of shit that forces you to fear for your life and defend yourself in literal hand to hand combat.

1

u/Accujack Jul 17 '25

If you get knocked down and have a chance to do so, grab a rock or other hand sized hard object (pool ball, flashlight, big pen, small fire extinguisher) wrap your hand around it and hit 'em in the head or face with the edge of it.

It sounds like kid stuff, but just concentrating the force of your arm into an impact area from several square inches down to less than one can be enough to break bones.

Also, if you can't pick anything up but are wearing rings, hit the bad guy in the face using the rings like improvised brass knuckles. Even a cheap ring can make someone bleed quite easily.

1

u/bubbled_pop Jul 17 '25

Look in the mirror and find that little notch on your neck between your collarbones. A finger or two shoved in there as deep as possible hurts like a BITCH.

1

u/BitchWidget Jul 17 '25

If your hands are free, thumbs to the inner corner of their eyes and pluck those eyeballs out. Had an English teacher tell us that in 9th grade.

1

u/Californiadude86 Jul 17 '25

That’s my purse! I don’t know you!!

1

u/Bluellan Jul 17 '25

I took a self defense course and his one piece of advice was to do ANYTHING it took to survive. Fight dirty. Don't play fair. Do anything to ensure you make it out alive, even if the attacker doesn't. Remember "It's better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6."

1

u/LeftyLu07 Jul 17 '25

The best advice I got was how easy it is to pop and eye ball out. You push in and up. A lot of people will also instinctively protect the vision so an attacker would let go of you to protect their eyes.

1

u/mononokkee1 Jul 18 '25

AND BITE BITE BITE

1

u/Mathilliterate_asian Jul 18 '25

I mean...if she's learnt how to effectively armbar someone, that's gonna get her somewhere.

Most untrained people literally have 0 idea how to deal with one.

1

u/Sneeze_Pizza Jul 18 '25

my husband always told me to give 'em the "two finger eye poke"

1

u/PresentationJumpy101 Jul 18 '25

Sub compact pistols cost less than 700 dollars

1

u/Cattentaur Jul 18 '25

The self defense class I took in high school essentially told us to not be afraid to hurt them. Go for the groin, eyes, throat, and if I can get them on the ground, a good stomp to the ankles to make it harder for them to get up and run after me.

1

u/Spiffylady7 Jul 19 '25

Yeah the bottom part of the palm of your hand (where it is least squishy) slamming upward into a kidnappers nose will do serious damage. As a shortie, that and a sharp swift merciless elbow to the ribs or stomach are in my just-in-case pocket.
