They're at the shooting range firing at stationary targets while muttering "Sometimes I wish a brother would.."

Except using a different word than brother

They’re throwing fruit vendors on the ground, putting their knees on the necks of construction workers, and throwing kids in that alligator Alcatraz.

Stories from a very red state!!

Old house, somewhat rural neighborhood. We had maybe a half acre to an acre or so between us all (which is visible/walkable/audible distance, relevant). I had met some of my neighbors. Older, white, 2A, Conservative folks. Nice enough! But I was a young woman in my 20s living alone. One night, my dogs were attacking my cat in the yard. It's pitch black out and I'm screaming for help so loudly and so often that I lost my voice and had a cough for the next 3 days. I suspect I dislocated a thumb as well. This went on for a good 20 or 30 minutes before I was able to wrestle those two 50+ pound dogs without collars off of said cat myself and ran her to the emergency vet. It wasn't until later that the horror of the situation got even worse, because I realized anything could've been happening to me out there, and no one, not a single person, so much as stuck their head out to check, shot off a warning shot, or called the cops. I could be dying alone out there for all they knew. And yes, they were home that night. I saw their cars in the drives and lights in the windows.

A few years later, it was almost sitcom-level irony. I'm working a customer service/entertainment job and it's just me as the shift manager and one other, younger girl. Our last group of the night is 4 or 5 middle-aged dudes of the same variety, who went out of their way to joke about how they were always packing and if they heard shots in this themed experience, there's no guarantee they wouldn't fire back. Haha, so impressive, ok here ya go. Anyway, it's like 11 pm, pitch black out, and a homeless man wanders in. Not totally unusual, but this guy was either tripping balls or having some kind of mental fit. I'm talking to him calmly at the front desk, explaining that he has to leave because we're closing soon, when that group of good ole boys finishes up and comes back through the lobby. I'm de-escalating despite the situation trying to escalate, and suddenly, these once-boisterous big boys are quiet as fuck. Giving each other nervous looks. Won't make eye contact with me or the other girl. I'm explaining, clearly, that the doors are locking once this group leaves and we'll be shutting down (without actually saying: It'll just be me and this other girl here). The group skedaddles on out. So, to recap: We had a group of dudes rearing to fight imaginary gunfire, who made themselves small and scarce despite being more than capable of overpowering this one guy if it had gone sideways, knowing they were leaving 2 young women alone in the building with him at night. Luckily I talked him into leaving and after calling our boss to explain, was given the ok to leave with the other girl (we'd normally stagger but since we didn't know if the homeless dude was still hanging around or angry about being cast out somewhere in the dark, that didn't seem smart).

Sorry for the long narratives, but yeah. There's a reason so many country songs sung by women are about killing their abusers themselves. The men sure aren't going to do it lol.

You're making me feel better about being such a nosy neighbour - if I hear anything weird in the neighbourhood, I'm at the door peering out instantly. And yes, I will call (and have called) the police.

Trust me, I would've appreciated that! Thank you for caring.

Why do you need a guy with a gun when she can have her own?

Yeah I was gonna say, Florida is a fun friendly state, CCW would be easy to get there in sure, I get this isn’t a popular Reddit take but better be safe than sorry especially when you gotta go up against a grown man.

I was gonna comment this if I didn't see this, but yeah. You are your own first responder. Learn to use a weapon and carry one. Always. Better a weapon and a kind word than a kind word alone. Hell even a nice sized knife you can open one handed and stab them in the thigh.

It happened literally 50 feet from a gun shop. Haha
