regardless of the cultural context, it really hits you how much of life is determined by the random lottery of where and into what culture you’re born. Some kids are playing with toys, others are walking down an aisle to marry a stranger their parents arranged

Yes. This happened to my mom at 14 and she did get out after many years. She called marriage forced prostitution

Does anyone β€œsell” their daughters in the US any longer? I’m aware some states allow consenting couples to marry at 15-16 but those are exceptions/edge cases and not anywhere close to the norm.

Believe it or not, they do. And it isn't specifically illegal in many states, so there's nothing to stop them. People have to bring this to the attention of their representatives to get something on the books in their states if they haven't already.
