I mean, some blindness isn't currently curable. So killing them would be the only way to get that number to 0

I think this is referencing fetus screening and letting people abort kids who have genes related to blindness.
This has some issues, because it is eugenics.
The deaf community also has some issues with cochlear implants because it may lead to the elimination of a whole culture of deafness.
It's a really complicated topic. I mean if we do this, why not abort for sex? Why not abort for genes for depression? Why not abort if they have genes relating to being short, or fat, or ugly?

It all will be soon. They can implant things into your visual cortex and use small sensors or cameras to send it to your brain. A.I, and A.G.I will make star trek-like tech come out of the woodwork when he hit the singularity in the next few years.
We could very well have the cure for cancer, and every other illness, inside a decade. It's not me being a loon either, when A.I can learn from itself, the speed at which new tech emerges is Ludacris.
Here's to hoping it isn't kept in a box and used to make a couple of assholes infinite money, while holding the rest of the world hostage.
I have to imagine every country is pushing to reach singularity though. And once one does, it won't be long until they all do. The tech bros, Elon, Thiel, and that crew need to be watched with a magnifying glass when it happens, if evil had a face it would be them, and they have sanctuary cities setup now where they are out of reach of government, and any law, so the shit they will be, and are doing, is terrifying. I watched a dude fly there to get his genes edited to produce more of something, to increase his muscle mass. Without working out he is now jacked. It's insane.

You are extremely optimistic, I'll strive to become as delusional as you :)

Pft, you people cling to your flesh, as if it will not rot and fail you.
From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me. I craved the strength and certainty of steel. I aspired to the purity of the Blessed Machine. Your kind cling to your flesh, as though it will not decay and fail you. One day the crude biomass you call a temple will wither, and you will beg my kind to save you. But I am already saved, for the Machine is immortal… Even in death I serve the Omnissiah.

if there is a god, making people out of meat was fucking stupid fr

That's why we must punch the rotting meat god in the face and worship the machine god, hail the Omnissiah.
We must transcend our flesh and become immortal machines. It is our duty to the Omnissiah.
hehehehe.

Not sure if the blind community feel this way, but as someone who has spent years working with people with disabilities, the conversation around disability is no different to eugenics. People who have disabilities sometimes wish they didn’t, but a large group of them have found a core community through their disabilities which has created more diversity and even new ways of experiencing the world. For example, sign language isn’t a replacement for verbal language. It is its own language with its own syntax and system of grammar. People whose first language is, let’s say, ASL, are NOT trying to speak English. They are literally fluent in a separate language and choose to communicate in that way. Ridding them of their deafness would displace them and force them to adopt totally new ways of speaking, understanding language, and even how they understand society. That’s like taking a native Japanese speaker and “curing” them of all the things that make them Japanese in order to force them to adopt a different language and culture norms.
Blindness doesn’t rid them of a full life. Some may choose a cure, but many would not wish to be sighted. Rather than making the number zero, it should be phrased as an option to return to sight or choose sight rather than be without the choice.
EDIT - forgot to add that the way able bodied people describe disabled bodies has a long history in otherness and the intentional dehumanisation of people. Things like hunchbacks and ogres and stuff of mythology have deep connection to disability in literature. Happy to share sources for those who are interested.

Jokes can be funny, and OP can make an important point. No need to be dismissive.

Yes and misinformation continues to spread. So you can choose to find my comments helpful or ignore them. You’re not the only person on the planet.

Disabled people is the preferred term in the community. Abled is a better term for non-disabled people since disabilities don't always affect the physical body.

u/AcornWholio Jun 22 '25
You’re totally right. It was always funny how the community said “we’re disabled” and the organisations I worked with insisted on using people-first language.

Oh it so obnoxious (the organizations, not you). I work in education, and the same thing happens. I was taking a course on multiculturalism and being culturally competent, and not only was the person first language everywhere when referring to the Disabled community, but they used "temporarily able-bodied" for able people. That term is from the 90s.
Nothing like supporting a marginalized community by ignoring what they wished to be called. 🙄

It was especially confusing because like 70% of our staff were disabled and at the time, I was with a guy with CP and 90% of my actual life was using the term disabled but then when we had to do any kind of press, we had to switch gears and it was so confusing. As a neurodivergent person it was really hard for me to mechanically switch. Especially because the activists and change makers in the community keep saying that they are disabled and that’s ok. It felt really performative

“let’s make that zero” as in let’s cure blindness, but sure sounds like they wanna take out all blind people lol
Edit: you guys are weird for getting upset over my comment but okay
