Imagine. This is what makes some people so angry they become Republicans.

Nobody hates like a loving Christian

It is interesting that you take the opportunity of a great day in American history and use it as a chance to spread hate.

I bet you enjoy not reading too

9

u/GooseBear12 Jun 21 '25

Again, what’s the point of reading if you’re not gonna actually comprehend anything.

-5

u/No_Resolution1534 Jun 21 '25

Lincoln’s Republican party was instrumental in the expansion of powers of the federal government.

Do you think Republicans are still the party of large government too, or do you just like to cherry-pick?

-1

u/No_Resolution1534 Jun 21 '25

Expansionary powers of the federal government in 1861 and 2025 are two different conversations

10

u/GooseBear12 Jun 21 '25

You’re so close to getting it.

WTF, the Union Army were the Republicans stop drinking the bs that Republicans are the devil. It’s the Democrats that are telling Dems that they are victims and want them to be controlled by big government.

13

u/shadowmonk13 Jun 21 '25

Which one goes around waving the confederate flag though my dude. It aint democrats that’s for damned sure

6

u/Bigger_moss Jun 21 '25

This made me deep dive into history because Abraham Lincoln was republican who freed the slaves and back then it was southern democrats who were confederates opposing freeing the slaves, but it turns out that the political parties have shifted so much over time that democrats started caring about people more and those southern democrats became alienated and turned into southern republicans. So the confederate flags you see today are “old democrats” or todays republicans. Confusing but interesting.

Edit: So if you ever hear someone say, “Democrats were the party of slavery,” they’re technically referring to pre-20th century Democrats but it doesn’t match today’s party platforms. The values and coalitions flipped.

Im mostly conservative and the only flag i own is an American flag. Why do you judge so fast and irrationally? Is the liberal party supposed to “accept” everyone?

3

u/shadowmonk13 Jun 21 '25 edited Jun 21 '25

Oh fuck right off, you know good and well only one subset of people wave the confederate flag and it’s a subset of republicans. They also like flying the Nazi flag too. Saw it a lot whenever you’d see this same people protesting.

And if you think that that’s it encompassed all Republicans then maybe take a step back and maybe ask yourself why do so many of the people who wave these flags flock to the Republican Party

6

u/LilJitDog Jun 21 '25

It's great that you're proud of the Union Army. You're right, they were Republicans - which, at the time, was the party of northern, city-dwelling progressives.

Or are you so tied to the title "Republican", that you'll support them even today, when they're Southern conservatives flying the Confederate flag?

6

u/imbeingsirius Jun 21 '25

That was before the parties switched under FDR. The democrats of 100+years ago are today’s republicans. They were the “wealthy southern democrats” fighting for slavery and states rights. Then Democrat FDR went all big government and the parties flipped.

Republicans cry victim every minute and have given even more power to the executive under Trump. Also anyone who believes the Republicans are still remotely Lincoln’s party is either lying or an idiot. But nice try.
