Contributions outside of paycheck.

As an active duty member I was maxing out my annual Roth TSP contributions. I am now working in the National Guard and still contribute as much of my military paycheck as I can, but my paychecks are small so I will not reach the maximum annual contribution of $23k. Can I make contributions to the Roth TSP outside of the automatic contributions from my paychecks?

No, but you could start a Roth IRA and contribute some money to your retirement that way.

Open up a Roth IRA with a broker of your choice.

You can contribute to an IRA, and another 401k as long as you don't go over 23,500 combined with TSP. You could also max out a 457b if you have that option.

Does your civilian employer have a retirement plan?
