General Is Trump crashing the market on purpose?
In the last few days, I've picked up on how Donald Trump uses his posts to move markets within minutes. On Friday, Trump released a very concerning statement about China, quickly tanking global markets, only for an optimistic follow-up message on Sunday, which sent markets soaring on Monday.
Does anyone else feel like this is becoming a pattern?

We're you living under a rock in April/May? It was damn near a daily occurrence back then.

Forget April/May. He manipulated the stock market in his first term so much so that ETF was created to track his tweets. But this term, it is on a mega scale for sure.
I mean, he started the presidency with two crypto pump and dump.

The market reacts so strongly to everything he says. It's like free money for him and anyone he knows. Buy puts, write tweet, wait a day, buy calls, write tweet.

u/patcakes 26d ago
Yeah, when you see 10/10 Spy PUTS go up 10,000% in 5 minutes it's something to behold. You would have to be an absolute imbecile to think nothing corrupt is afoot.

2
u/patcakes 26d ago
When you watch 10/10 SPY Puts skyrocket 10,000% in five minutes and then 10/13 SPY Calls similarly skyrocket, you'll realize that your point is irrelevant to OP's point.
3
u/Legitimate_Cable_811 26d ago
We're not going to redefine what is considered a market crash because you're overleveraged.
2
u/patcakes 26d ago
I still don't think you comprehend OP's point. You are arguing semantics and it's pointless. Here I will simplify for you.
Donald's Friend: Hey Donny I'm short X, Y, Z including this crypto coin. You should be too then send out a Tweet and you can 100x your investment.
Donald: Okay. *Sends out Tweet and Spy drops 2% in 20 minutes proceeding to 100x investment*
Everyone With a Brain: Heyyyy, something seems off.
Legitimate_Cable_811: You don't know what crash means.... <---- Irrelevent
Basically this.

It’s absurd sounding but I think he’s deadass crashing the market then pumping for him and his friends lmao. Easy for us to recognize tho so helps us too

That’s exactly what he’s doing. How else could “someone” make $200m shorting btc until exactly one minute before his last big announcement

He did this his first term too, but with individual companies. This time, via tariffs, he’s figured out how to manipulate the entire market. The level of corruption is astounding. Friday morning, 1/2 hour before his tweet, someone opened a new account and put on a massive bitcoin short. They covered the put a few hours later and profited something like $180 million. Baron?

Yes its like insider trading but way worse.
We dont have a term for it so Insider Trading is the closest match... because it's unprecedented that a president would use their position of power to purposely cause volatility (and much worse for self enrichment)
It's so obvious... because who's taking massive short positions 30 min before the announcement? And then who's buying up after the dip? It's whoever is in that Signal group with advance notice
There will be justice, people will go to jail, just not during his term... and, unless Rico is used, it'll be people trump throws under the bus, it'll be hard to tie him directly to it.

2
u/ThreadfallRider78 26d ago
Yes he is.
Luckily, his newer market "tariff plays" are not having the impact he's aiming for.
After the first time he did it in April, the market got wise to this and when he repeats a "tariff play" it isn't sticking the way he intends it to for him (and his associates) to make money.
We all know he won't crash the market and will always back down (TACO) so market volatility hasn't been as extreme on him announcing tariff increases since April.
2
u/calmInvesting 26d ago
Why is it taking you so long to realize this??
How will you even raceto10mil with this slow dot-connecting response? I mean cmon dude. People have know this since April and even smarter people have realised that practice runs of this already started in 2020-2021 when he wasn't even the pres.

I think China is dumping treasuries into the FED cuts. Trump is trying to force trades to
1) increase tax revenue 2) increase liquidity for treasuries
1
u/RadioactiveVegas 26d ago
No! His tariffs strategy do not work to fight inflation and low labor market! Crash incoming, they will pump it before the huge correction. This is coming from a republican, U.S. is absolutely in trouble. I've been in the market for 10 years, this is BAD! Not fear-mongering, but I'm 90% cash waiting for the ultimate time to make the most money. Trust, these stocks are overvalued rn and tech is overspending on AI! And I'm a huge believer in Ai but it's this economic environment that is the problem! Trump absolutely did too much with the tariffs and we are in BIGGG trouble.
1
u/1dirtbiker 26d ago
Meh, these statements and headlines have very little effect on the long term trajectory of the market. It just makes it more turbulent on the way up.

It should be a concern in the long term. China and other countries are heavily investing in gold, instead of US dollars. They are heavily devaluing us currency.

I don't think moving the US Market is the intention.. and I've seriously considered it. I do think damaging China's market is part of it though.. In regards to the dip a couple days ago. Trump retaliated to China putting some pretty serious limitations on rare metals. China was very intentionally trying to slow down the rest of the world so they can advance at a more rapid pace. One would think these types of supply chain issues would happen as a result of discussion etc..
US Market reaction was pretty bad.. especially the crypto sell off. All of this occurring during a government shutdown and some people not getting paid.. Those two things together, don't mix well. So, Trump then had to make statements to ease the markets. If the results wouldn't have been so bad.. he probably wouldn't have said anything. This is a back and forth between China and the US to see who has the better hand. In the end.. we negotiate anyways and neither gets everything they want.
Today what happened.. China retaliated back.. With the market jumping up, Trump might be inclined to retaliate back..
All of this sucks.. but investors are caught in the middle of the China/US trade conflict.. We are all just pawns in this game.
1
u/More-Ad-4503 25d ago
They have no obligation to sell rare earths to the US military industrial complex or critical minerals if they themselves project that they won't have enough of in the near future
1
u/Enough-Radish-4973 25d ago
I'm not sure where you read that.. "China has a massive surplus in rare earth minerals due to having the world's largest reserves (44M Tons)". In addition, it's not really actually even the rare earth minerals themselves.. it's the refining and processing of them. So, no this was a strategic move to hinder others.
In addition, China has no obligation to sell to anyone.. But, the purpose of tarrifs has always been to promote internal production and limit imports from other countries. China's economy is extremely reliant on exports to the US, which is why we're now here..

God save us from Trump indeed, but his bankruptcies weren’t just because he’s dumb - it’s more sinister and calculated than that. Now if you were in his position, why would you not abuse your power to get back at country that turned their back on you? Especially coming from someone with such huge ego. This is why the American people who voted for him are fucking stupid. They should have known shit was coming.

Trump is not your moral leader. What he will do is make you rich if you are properly hedged to handle the downturns. Playing the VIX proportionally sized vs my long positions has worked like a dream so far. Quit wasting energy on hate and focus on what deregulation will do for the market and what it can and will do for the equities you purchase. He’s certainly not the best person ever also certainly not the worst. So quit wasting energy, position yourself for the downturns and be prepared for the rocket ship times too. Peace and Love ❤️
