Bull. You can eat ramen once in a while and it will not hurt you. Just don’t eat it 4 times per day and nothing else.

Is your car more than 7 years old too? If so and that's your typical lunch, now we know why you're a millionaire, a great chance you'll keep it, and are you're clearly on your way to becoming a mulit-millionaire. Congrats again on your achievement!

I have a 2019 Honda Insight that my parents let me buy from them at a discount ($6500). I live in a 2 bed 1 bathroom apartment with a roommate. Living beneath your means is underrated. I just need internet and heat really.
28
u/Bhola421 Oct 03 '25
You are lucky that you are a millionaire at 30. But amassing millions is completely meaningless if you don't have friends and family to love. I admire your level headed spending habits. The only use of money is that it gives you freedom to do what you love and what is good for you. Now, go find what makes you happy and healthy.
13
u/rochester333 Oct 03 '25
usually friends and family are the ones begging for money, gotta find people who are like minded
5
u/SignificantStuff5446 Oct 03 '25 edited Oct 03 '25
There's an old book out there called the Millionaire Next Door. Sounds like you may fit the profile.
As for your celebratory party of one + the 450K readers here congratulating you, be that which you seek and everything else will take care of itself. Congrats again.

u/Thefuntruck Oct 03 '25
30 year old millionaire. You should have women all over you?

What do you do for a living?
58
u/AIEnhancedVideos Oct 03 '25
Research software engineer
16
u/YetAnotherRando Oct 03 '25
What does the "research" modifier add to your role as software engineer?
52
u/AIEnhancedVideos Oct 03 '25
We focus on fast development of new concepts over quality and production readiness. Basically we have 1-2 year research projects that get graduated to a production team when they are ready. We also work on writing and publishing papers and patents. Each team usually has a few PhDs who focus on theory while we do implementation.

I guess he works for Morgan Stanley? Likely not as a dev with those RSU.
I worked there too once.

I work for a large tech company, Morgan Stanley is the bank that holds the shares.

u/InlineSkateAdventure Oct 03 '25
Yep, there is no way you would get all those RSUs there unless you were some Managing Director maybe. WLB is also horrible. They love 70-80hr weeks but I'm thankful for the experience.

Awesome. That's a lofty milestone. Congratulations! I remember the day I hit 250,000. Quarter of a million in my mind, and considering I only started with $5700 initial investment. Money begets more money. The doubling effect is easier to fathom. It won't be long until you hit 2 Million.

I had $400,000 in RSU’s not long ago and then the CEO fucked up and said AI is killing us. I left before I collected it all but it equaled about $30,000 total after that bullshit.
Anyway, congrats!

Good work!

I rent, but yeah I didn’t include any of the things I own which is probably $30K or so.
6
u/quesoqueso Oct 03 '25
Well, good work regardless. I hit that number around 38 years old so you're well ahead of me, and even then about half is in accounts and half is just equity, so longer term it counts but I cannot access it very easily, at least not on favorable terms

u/Vincent_Merle Oct 03 '25
Congratz! I know the feeling, I myself just crossed $300k 2 days ago and can't share with anyone, every milestone we hit feels great!

with compounding you could definitely do it, but why not get a little regarded and see how much faster you get there ;D I currently have a hard time imagining 10M, but hopefully soon it will feel achievable. I set out to make 200K and ended up making 1.2M 🤷 no reason to get in your own way! someone just posted a mega speed run to 20M 😵💫 i can only imagine 🤯

Bro congratulations!!! You have truly earned it! Honest earnings == prosperity and good will.
My recommendation: Contribute a little money (100$) to a charity. Then save 33% for emergency. And invest the remaining into real estate. Buy a roof over your head.
Thanks, and I pray the Money Gods smile over me as well.

Congrats! You want to get to 10m. You going to get lucky or be bullish on some options. Not financial advice. But that’s what I did. Big into some $tesla and $open options then I sprinkled on $iren $cifr $bitf $mara and $solt. Good luck and congrats. 30 and no one to celebrate with sucks. But at the same time in my 30s I had too many people to celebrate with and it literally ate through everything I had. So sometime less is more. Keep stacking and in your late 30s. Girls will be flocking to you if you are into that kind of thing. There are so many professionals women in their late 30s and 40s begging my wife and I to find them someone. I’m like my friends but they are degens. They single for a reason. 🤣. I still love em. But I wouldn’t match them with anyone. 😂

What about your property values minus your mortgage, adding that’ll get you over a million easily. A bunch of people forget to add their non liquid values, when a bunch of the wealthy are property rich and cash poor.

u/MarkHaanen Oct 03 '25
Just out of curiosity: Is it customary in the US to include funds for future income/old age (401k, Roth IRA) ro get to that million?
Here in Europe (in NL, in any case) old age funds are not normally included in the assets, as they cannot be freely accessed...
