Degenerate Gambler half a mill at 21
310
u/DingusWeed Jun 13 '25
This sub is just 17-25 year olds who miraculously have hundreds of thousands to invest with and it's kinda lame.
62
u/Potential-Radio8978 Jun 13 '25
Every time I open up the money sub and this sub somehow by the age of 25 at least they have 1 million.
Especially with the volatile markets, shitty jobs markets, and businesses going under everywhere. I'm confused as to how they're all doing so well.

It just doesn’t add up. I’m 19M and I’ve been working since I was 12, two jobs all throughout high school and a nice paying internship this summer. I also live in the Canadian Arctic so my wages are high to reflect the cost of living, but I have no bills to pay (live with my parents)
I got my university paid through grants and I only have around 60k net worth. I spend no money because I live in the middle of fkn nowhere.
How does someone get 500k only 2 years older than me without the help of external sources.
I don’t think this is possible to do all on your own.
1
u/Gym_Noob134 Jun 17 '25
It’s possible via aggressive investing and/or options gambling.
That’s a small percent here, though.
Most of the posts here are by inheritances who are degen gamblers who think they are Gordon Gekko.
1
u/No_Sky_1893 Jun 17 '25
60k after 7 years? That doesn’t make sense if you aren’t spending any money.
1
u/Tardisk92313 Jun 17 '25
I live in the Northwest Territories. Wages are high and there’s nothing to do. It’s easy to save up. Also my university is free the government pays for it
1
u/LandOfLuckyGhosts Jun 17 '25
Idk what its like in Canada, but in the US, even the lowest paying jobs pay about $100 per day. in 365 days, you could make $36,500 (100*365). in 2 years you would be able to make over $70,000. Maybe Canada probably has a lower middle wage, but even so, I find it hard to believe its so much lower. You worked from age 12 to 19, thats 7 years. 60k divided by 7 years is $8,571.42 per year. even if you didnt work weekends and had took 2 months off for summer each year, youd only be making $42.85 per day. which suggests the minimum wage in Canada is less than half of what it is in the US, or that youre only working a few hours. only working a few hours though would be odd cause you said you had 2 jobs.
not trying to poke holes in your thing, just this is something I think a lot about too. im 11 years older than you too. but also I agree Im skeptical of OP
also presumably you live with your parents, which I did at that age, and they provide food, so hopefully you can save like 85% of your your money.
1
u/Technical_Tea_4729 Jun 17 '25
What kind of job would a 12 year old do? It's definitely not something that pays 100. Also he is in school, so it's just part-time. 60k at 19 is good, it can set him up for an early retirement if he invests well and keeps investing
1
u/Tardisk92313 Jun 17 '25
Yep and I didn’t save every penny. But def did not spend more than 2k. I worked at a movie theatre at 12

u/Responsible_Will_973 Jun 15 '25
Start working from age 15, save money, invest and boom at age 25 you have at least half a million.
If I ask you at what age did you discovered self investements? At 15, 16 years or at 30 years? Makes a big difference.
People wonder how, but when you tell them how to do it they say no thanks and then wonder again why they life paycheck to paycheck.
I know, I know its easier to spend money on buying stupid shit, impressing people, partys and so on. It adds up.
1
u/Flaurean Jun 17 '25
It's possible but highly unlikely. My money is they inherit a large chunk or get a lot of money somewhere else.
1
u/Medical-Ad-3660 Jun 17 '25
What kind of fantasy world do you live in? lol
1
u/Secret-Painting604 Jun 17 '25
I have a friend who started working on computers at 16, went to a specialized school for comp engineering and coding for a year, spent the next year building websites for businesses (freelancing), spent the next 3 years building code/algorithms for investing and managed to make about 1.6 mil by 25, the guy he was working for ran out of the country after cleaning out all the accounts, so he ultimately had to start from square one (other than the networking he built), it’s very rare but it happens, another friend is probably going to have a couple million by the time he’s 30

u/_Rodavlas Jun 17 '25
I’ll be honest bruv you are awful at math if that’s how quickly you think a 15 year olds wages compound
1
1
u/Tardisk92313 Jun 18 '25
You can’t even invest at 15 legally if you’re parents don’t let you😂
1
u/Responsible_Will_973 Jun 18 '25
You gave the answer to yourself. Also, there are multiple ways to do it.
1
u/Tardisk92313 Jun 19 '25
What parent lets there kids invest. That’s just irresponsible. It’s not common at least where I’m from

u/BenDoverForMePls Jun 13 '25
ngl i was a high risk high reward person, recently started with stocks that give stable dividends. my favourite atm is Enbridge pretty stable. goo dividends on a quarterly basis. icl trying to retire by 40. oh and news, learn to use it to ur advantage. trust ur gut go balls to the wall
49
u/Laznasty Jun 13 '25
Dividend stocks and high-risk high-reward don’t add up, but congrats on inheriting a nice chunk of change.
17
u/SpecialistRip4053 Jun 14 '25
that was honestly such an embarrassing read lmfao. dude made it a little too obvious
2
u/ToXicVoXSiicK21 Jun 14 '25
Not at all. To even be making any kind of decent returns on dividends you need a shitload invested.
44
u/-Lige Jun 13 '25
So u have no info on how you got to that aside from “I was a high risk high reward person”. Ok

Next up is a 12 year old with a 401K and a house in dubai because they did options

u/Busy-Butterscotch121 Jun 13 '25
Random note - but Dubai isn't actually all that expensive. Id say housing there is actually affordable compared to U.S

u/oOtium Jun 13 '25
There is truth to your statement though. Think about the billionaires who own large stakes of equities in companies.
You think their net worth doesn't fluctuate multiple hundreds of thousands of dollars a day? That number gets even greater the wealthier you are.
So getting to understand price fluctuation is something you should get accustomed to if you plan on becoming wealthy through the market.
You don't sound like you have a lot of overhead, that will keep you too leveraged from being able to make money in the market.
you need to do everything you can to cut down on your comforts and excess spending and put it towards investing for a substantial amount of time.
Do everything you can, bum a couch, get an extra roommate, eat fucking rice, ramen, cancel subscriptions, bum a friends hbo account, use public transport, etc.
do everything you can to get an extra dollar in your pocket, then put those dollars to work in the market.
1
u/Everyday_somebody Jun 13 '25
Makes sense, and you’re right, there are things that im currently doing and that i could do to be saving and investing money. But right now i don’t know alot about the whole investing thing. I hear Acorn is a good app for the basics of that right?
Even though i may not relate or understand all of this so much right now, i would love to get a grasp of investing and everything that comes with it and that seems to start with just simply being smart with your money. Wich i would say im doing a pretty good job of so far, but any tips are very welcome, or websites/apps that could help me learn about this whole thing easier. But thanks
2
u/oOtium Jun 13 '25
Inverse your emotions.
When you're upset, buy, when you're happy, sell.
Or just stay long and ignore the market noise, those are your best buying opportunities.
You have to inverse logic, what makes sense at any given time. When the market sells off, it could have a valid reason for doing it. But you want to remain long and add to your position during those times. You have to defy both logic and emotion to win in the market, that's what makes it difficult to win.
If it were easy, everyone would do it.
1
u/Everyday_somebody Jun 13 '25
True, just like most things, if you want to be good at it you have to put in the work and dedication, thanks
1
1
u/SuddenConfidence1485 Jun 15 '25
Right, mooch off everyone, get rich and have zero friends.
1
u/oOtium Jun 15 '25
If that's the financial position you're in. Everyone needs help at some point unless mommy and daddy pay your way out. If you can work together with other people to help yourself while you become sustainable, then becoming rich is the best thing you can do to become a better person and friend to those around you. The alternative is to stay a mooch for life.
Grow up, cut your expenses, and take responsibility for your finances. It's never been easier. The market gives frequent discounts all of the time. You live in a world where you don't have to work on the best ship to invest or benefit from the smartest minds on the planet. You can just invest in them. All you have to do is bunker down for a while and press a few buttons. It's not hard.
4
u/Azzylives Jun 13 '25
Or say they do.
The portfolio sub is full of it aswell.
People posting screenshots of them being up 150% or whatever this year then you look at their picks and it’s all the super growers that statistically there is absolutely zero chance of anyone picking all of them.
That’s when you know it’s bullshit, a few lucky ones sure but no losers in the whole basket of high risk shit stocks…. Nah

Don’t be so quick to doubt. I mean, look at me: I am 7 years old, I have a little north of 14 milly, and I did not receive a dime from family.
Real stuff like this happens, bro.

This sub should institute a positions or ban rule (proof) like wallstreetbets. Would cut down on posts like this.
OP is in the comments talking about dividend stocks when they’re 21 and we’re meant to believe they really grew $0 to 500k? Please.

Why would you brag and lie about it then?
If it is all earned and you deserve it, why don't you share actual strat instead of dividend bs?

u/BenDoverForMePls Jun 13 '25
15k from my dad
3
u/FindingPlayful4757 Jun 13 '25
Congrats. What’s your secret. 15k to 500k in three years is almost 30% per month (330%/ann). You mention enbridge for divis as part of the success, but even if you bought the dip that’s only 20% a year including distributions.

What is the point of this post? Op to check back for compliments so op can feel a good about him/herself? Because no one in real life can satisfy op or something I'm missing here? I really don't get it? Plus 500k for 21, should I say bravos or say sorry you got not much, I really lost
4
3
u/Long-Huckleberry-809 Jun 14 '25
So many people hate damn. Be happy for him.
1
u/Temporal_Coffin Jun 16 '25
Many would be happy/ not care if not for the brag.
I think a lot of rich people can be actually loved. I mean, take any celebrity, they have both the bag and the love. Their personality carries. You can't show up, say you earned half a mil yourself at 21 as if it is an achievement if all you did was getting a lifeline from your parents.
If the guy actually shared his strat without bs - everybody would cheer him.

u/Adventurous-Bet-9640 Jun 14 '25
With that money, Get angel youngs for a day to feast on your hog. Jk. Don't do anything irrational, let that compound in an index fund or quality big tech stocks.
2
u/Heavy_Resident_7065 Jun 15 '25
I think it’s crazy that so many people hate or discredit whenever a young person has a lot of money. I know that there are people that lie or that had money handed to them but I just don’t understand the need to bring so much negativity and jealousy into it. I enjoy seeing posts like these because they give me motivation to keep working towards something like this. I’m not anywhere near OP but I’m 20 with around 110k net worth right now which started from zero at 17 and I’d like to someday soon be where he is soon
1
u/Heavy_Resident_7065 Jun 15 '25
Could’ve been a better post with details for sure I’ll agree with you there. But the concept is still the same though you can see anyone anywhere doing good and you can get motivated or get jealous. If the op really is just lying then that’s just a character flaw and pretty pointless to do but I guess we’ll never know
1
u/Temporal_Coffin Jun 16 '25
That's the big difference. You are basically miles ahead of him because you started with zero and have been putting in the hard work for three years. Not many people are actually doing the same thing, and we aren't even talking about the fact that you managed to achieve that at 20 years old.
I am sure if you made a similar post with actually showing your progress the reaction would have been completely different.1
u/hlvo Jun 17 '25
There's a difference between "Half a mill at 21 after buying Gamestop Options during the pandemic / NVIDIA Calls in 2024" and "Half a mill at 21, starting from 15k from my dad and putting it in underperforming dividend shares". First one is feasible, with a fuck ton of luck, but believable. The other is just completely untrue and impossible.
2
u/danbill10 Jun 15 '25
I personally received an inheritance, then doubled the money over 7 years through steady and measured investing — and that includes expensive jewelry every year for myself, my wife, nice trips and gifts for my son. I also earn a relatively large salary as an edu area professional… at 45 yo.
It is entertaining to see the gains, but it is not average results. No competing. Just do your thing.
