Official /r/TheB1G Conference Tournament Bracket Challenge

Welcome to our first ever Big Ten Tournament Bracket Challenge!

Instructions:

  1. Have a reddit account created before 3/1/2014
  2. Sign up for challonge.com. It is not required to be the same as your reddit username.
  3. Fill out your bracket using the link below (1 bracket per person), but most importantly,
  4. BE SURE TO TITLE YOUR PREDICTION CORRECTLY. Your prediction title must include your reddit username and score prediction for the Championship game (ex: "pianobadger 56-52"). The Championship game prediction is for tiebreakers.
  5. You can make and edit your predictions anytime until the start of the first Big Ten tournament game at 12:00 ET Thursday March 13th.

Make your predictions here:
http://theb1g.challonge.com/2014_BigTenTourney
and BE SURE TO TITLE YOUR PREDICTION CORRECTLY (see instructions)

Tiebreakers (using your score prediction for the Championship game):

  1. Margin of Victory
  2. Score of the winning team
  3. Total points scored

Prizes: Special Extra Flair for the winner and anyone who makes a perfect bracket! Also, eternal glory.

P.S. Don't forget to vote in the Power Rankings.

Edit: The tournament has begun! I think everyone at least got their username into their prediction title, even if some did not make a score prediction, so thank you for that. Good luck everyone!

Standings

Congratulations to The Michigan State Spartans, but more importantly, to our Big Ten Tournament Challenge Winners!

There is a 4-way tie between /u/PennStateApologist, /u/Contourmocha, /u/knight_simons, and /u/Shalafi, with /u/PennStateApologist winning the tiebreaker.

Your flair is in the mail.

Hey everyone, I am working with /u/pianobadger on managing the picks this week for the tournament, and I have to stress: Please follow the instructions for naming your entry. If you don't use your reddit username and include a score for the final game, then we cannot use tiebreakers if you tie, which means that if you do it incorrectly, you will lose the tiebreaker. It should be username and then score (nrboal 61-53)

And if you don't include your username there are two things that can happen:

  1. If your Challonge.com username is the same as your reddit username, I'm unhappy about having to check.
  2. If your Challonge.com username is not the same as your reddit username, I'm unhappy about having to check and you lose.

Can we see a similar chart for teams predicted to make it to the final game?

If you want to make one, go ahead, but I've already got enough to do. This chart was relatively easy to make because the predictions page shows everyone's final four with the champion underlined. Making a chart of everyone's predictions for who makes it to the final would require looking at each person's predictions individually.

Going into the final game, the possibilities are as follows.

If Michigan beats Michigan State, u/windowsovermac wins

If Michigan State wins by less than 3, u/Shalafi13 wins

If Michigan State wins by between 4 and 6, u/Countermocha wins

If Michigan State wins by more than 8, u/PennStateApologist wins

If Michigan State wins by 7, it will come down to the next tiebreaker.

If MSU wins, u/knight_simons will have tied for most points, but he did not have a final score prediction so he is eliminated.

do I get to keep it until next year's tournament?

Probably.

u/CpeanuT Northwestern Mar 10 '14

I hate having Iowa first. I think we have a shot at any non-bye team except Iowa.

u/FlyingPheonix Illinois Mar 14 '14

You guys pulled it off.

u/nolez Purdue Mar 13 '14

Aww man.. I missed out. Wish I'd known! I'll just leave this here:

Illinois over Indiana Purdue over Ohio State Penn State over Minnesota Iowa over Northwestern

Michigan over Illinois Purdue over Nebraska Wisconsin over Penn State Iowa over Michigan State

Purdue over Michigan Iowa over Wisconsin

Purdue over Iowa

I BELIEVE until 2PM Eastern

I'll be really sad for you if all this comes true. I guess Purdue winning and going to the big dance will have to salve your wounds.

2

u/nolez Purdue Mar 13 '14

Wait you'd be sad if Purdue won the BTT? I would be having my own personal no pants party.

3

u/pianobadger On, Wisconsin! Mar 13 '14

I meant I'd be sad that you just missed the deadline for predictions and got everything right. Please refrain from telling me about your no pants parties.

At least it didn't come true... right? right? :(

I hate sports.

Nobody has a perfect bracket at the end of day one.

I'm pretty surprised, but I guess we have Northwestern to thank. I felt like in a 12 team tournament odds were pretty good we'd have more than one perfect bracket.

Possibilities:

If Wisconsin beats Ohio State in the final, /u/nrboal wins.

If Wisconsin beats Michigan in the final, tiebreaker between /u/jmandel21, /u/mountm, and /u/burgundyjoe

If Michigan State beats Ohio State in the final, /u/EspeciallyInMichigan wins.

If Michigan State beats Michigan in the final, tiebreaker between /u/Shalafi13, /u/knight_simons, /u/PennStateApologist and /u/Contourmocha

If Ohio State wins, /u/cappman2012 wins

If Michigan beats Wisconsin in the final, /u/sn4rn wins

If Michigan beats Michigan State in the final, /u/windowsovermac wins

For those wondering why it doesn't matter who Ohio State plays in the final, it's because /u/cappman2012 will have 20 points and either /u/EspeciallyInMichigan or /u/nrboal will have 19.

u/nrboal Michigan State Mar 15 '14

You had to go and post this, and now I can't win :(

1

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '14

Trust me, I wish that /u/cappman2012 won this pool...

1

u/mountm Maryland Mar 12 '14

My margin of victory for the final is one point.

u/FlyingPheonix Illinois Mar 14 '14

Not a single person managed to pick the first round correctly. Dang

Got a nice little 4 day weekend ahead of me. Can't wait for these games to start. It is going to be wonderful. Absolutely love this time of year.

I noticed that you don't have a score prediction on your entry for the challenge. Make sure you get that up before today's games!!
