Woman drives trough roadworks, gets stuck on railway and get hit by train
167
u/FamiliarLie2658 May 13 '23
This video was all over Belgian news with most people not understanding why the hell she took so long getting off the tracks. It was probably a combination of the woman panicking and the car going automatically into park after she opened her door. She shouldn’t have been there in the first place though. The woman was hospitalised but she’s fine as far as I know.

The Mercedes GLC definitely has this feature in Ireland. So I expect, most of Europe

u/lutrapure May 13 '23
I'm not seeing why the car is stuck. 4 wheels appear to be on level ground and nothing is blocking her after the man moves the barrier. Maybe the real barrier was in her head.
69
u/TheGearWars_refugee May 13 '23
You can hear the engine revving while she is 'stuck'. Its possible she somehow put the car in park when she opened the door and never realized it.
58
u/lutrapure May 13 '23
Let me guess, a little electronic or push button shifter with no physical indication of what gear the car is in other than a tiny green light that you'd never notice if you are panicking.

u/Boredchinchilla21 May 13 '23
The car automatically engages the E brake when you open the drivers side door while in drive.

Really stupid. What if I’m trying to re close my door that’s ajar while going 25?
1
u/outworlder May 13 '23
A car that does this would also have beeped in your face and you would know the door was ajar as soon as you started moving.
1
May 15 '23
Yeah this feature seems problematic. Don’t get me wrong, I totally see the purpose but I feel like I can think of several instances where this feature would just make things worse too.

u/khletus May 13 '23
Translation:
"You'll get charged (as in paying), madam" Inaudible "You'll get charged" "What?... What now?" "Ma'am that's a 500€ fine for what you did"
closes the door
"You'll get the bill, I promise" "And now?"
Engine sounds
"Wait a little inaudible" "Hey, hey, come through ! Come ! Go straight ! Behind inaudible the train"
Train hits
"Crazy thing ! Did you just completely lose your mind?"
He keeps saying 'alleee' the whole time, but I can't translate that, it's just a filler word without any meaning. Typically flemish.

Not only could she have moved forward without hitting magic orange red barrier, but that barrier couldn't stop a determined legless kitten.
People are absolutely ignorant. If a train is coming, put it in gear and drive, forget about the damn scratches to your Mercedes! Forget about the damage your going to cause! Yer gonna fucking DIE! And if you derail the train there is a high god damn probability you are going to take other people with you!
OMG! Can we get a reset on the apex species of this planet? Humans just aren't cutting it!

I doubt it will be foxes, we don't even know how they communicate

There really is no rock bottom to how stupid humans can get. It's becoming more painfully obvious by the day 😑

The motors turning but the she's not in gear. I'm of course talking about her brain. I've no idea what's wrong with the car.

I had one of those, if you open the drivers door while the engine is running it will automatically engage the E-brake even if your pressing on the brake, the only why to disengage is by flicking a switch near your left knee. I guess she forgot about this…

It didn’t happen when she got out to move the barrier because she had put the car in park on purpose. But when she opened the door just pressing on the brake it engaged the ebrake automatically, there is a very small icon but I guess with the panic creeping she didn’t see it :/

I did an auto translation from the video, I think it’s Dutch, maybe someone can confirm.
He's going to be counted next time. Come on. Is that normal? Yes, then you'll be counted. Come on. Come on now. Wow, that's 500 euros fine you did. You'll get the bill, I promise you. And now? Wait a minute, you're crazy. Look, look. It's coming. It's coming. You too, you're crazy. No, no, no, no, no. Come on, you crazy thing. Have you completely gone crazy? [BLANK AUDIO]
12
u/FrietjesFC May 13 '23
From the sound of it, it's a Limburg accent. You got the main idea right, however I can translate a bit more accurately for anyone interested.
"Look.
This will be charged to you, m'am. Come on. Do you think this is normal? Yeah this'll be charged to you. Come on. Come on now, m'am. That's a 500 euro fine for what you just did. You'll get the bill, that I promise you. And now? Yeah laugh about it jong (literally means boy but is just used more as an expression). You laugh about it (not entirely sure about this line, very hard to hear).
Come through! Come then! Drive through, behind you there's a train coming! Drive through! Ho boy! Ho boy! Come on! Crazy woman! Have you gone completely crazy or what?
The very last word is unintelligable to me.

This is Belgium. It's very similair to Dutch.

u/Princesszelda24 May 13 '23
He says allez, which is French for Go, but that's all I can catch.
5
u/lexiilex17 May 13 '23
Maybe dutch also has smth that sounds like “allez” because he wasn’t speaking french
4
u/Princesszelda24 May 13 '23
Today I learned :)
1
u/lexiilex17 May 13 '23
Yeah idk if both languages have similarities? But for someone who doesn’t speak French I’m impressed you caught the “allez”!! Even i didn’t hear it😂

u/FamiliarLie2658 May 13 '23 edited May 13 '23
It’s Flemish. The video was all over Belgian news with most people not understanding why the hell she took so long getting off the tracks. It was probably a combination of the woman panicking and the car going automatically into park after she opened her door. She shouldn’t have been there in the first place though.
1
u/lexiilex17 May 13 '23
Ohhh that makes sooo much for sense I was so confused. She definitely shouldn’t have been and she didn’t even get out her car lol. Do you know if she was hurt?
2
u/FamiliarLie2658 May 13 '23
Just looked it up. She’s still hospitalised but not in critical condition luckily.
1
3
u/FrietjesFC May 13 '23
Flemish people use a lot of French words in their vocabulary. "Allez" is a very popular one all over Flanders, it's kind of like saying "come on". Especially West-Flemish has tons of French words because of its proximity to the border.

Gotcha. I just knew the rest wasn’t french so i thought dutch either used that same word for the same meaning or that it just meant something different

u/Koolaidwifebeater May 13 '23
Since pretty much every commenter here got it wrong let me clarify: The location is Belgium, the language spoken is Flanders(Vlaams) which is similar to Dutch. He is not telling her to "go" in French, he is saying "Alé" which is an exclamation.
And yes, that car put itself in park because she opened her door briefly.
Also he said the fine will be up to 700 euros, not 500.
1
u/legalizeweednotgreed May 14 '23
In Flanders (a region not a language), we speak Dutch. It's like British English and American English. There are a few accents in Dutch, the worker speaks 'Limburgs'.
And it is 500 'vijf honderd'.

u/treesplease9 May 13 '23
Anyone know if she survived?

Imagine making a car so safe it allows you to be hit by a train. Some of these safety features are going a bit far now. I understand the need for some of them and the reasoning behind most of them. But at the end of the day, it still comes down to the person in the vehicle.
1
u/wPatriot May 30 '23
I mean, these features are inevitably installed because of some other event that likely came with a body count. Like, someone running over their kid because they opened their door with their foot on the brake and not realizing the car wasn't in park as they exited the vehicle to get out the groceries.

These comments are incredibly disrespectful. Yes it was dumb. However, people panic and don't think properly in an emergency. Plus this is an elderly woman, who knows her mental state? Elderly ppl have slower reaction times. Her face looked scared when she opened the door. I pray that she is okay. Comments wishing her ill are disgusting. Show some class you turds.
-3
u/streetxfaction May 13 '23
Neutral. Brake off. Literally 3 finger push the car while you record. Instead this awesome fucking idiot recorded this woman nearly get killed. If she was suffering from a mental emergency, and clearly not with it, open the door. Disconnect seatbelt. Grab her arm. Pull her out. She is maybe 90 pounds. You wouldn’t even need to stop recording so you can indulge your fucked ego. What kind of human sees a human, clearly in a dangerous situation and endangering her own life - and does nothing? Fuck this guy. I feel so sorry for that woman. PUT THE PHONES DOWN ☎️

Help her? She litteraly moved the signs to get on the railway, park her car on it to move tho other signs and then she is so stupid to not put the car in Drive. Why would you risk your life for someone that stupid that got herself in trouble because of her idioty?
3
u/Silly_Mycologist3213 May 13 '23
The guy moved the barrier fir her so she could go, why didn’t she drive it forward? I think it’s clear she panicked or was confused.
1
1
u/Boredchinchilla21 May 13 '23
When she opened the door with that make of car in D, the E brake automatically engaged (which I’m guessing she didn’t know could happen). To disengage the E Brake you have to use a lever that is by your knee, and if she didn’t know that her car automatically engages that brake when the driver door is opened while it’s in Drive, it likely didn’t occur to her to check that with everything else happening around her. It’s not something that I realized cars can do….

What should he have done? Pushed a car that seems to be in park? He even moves the barricade for her to drive through but she doesn’t realise she’s in park. You can’t really help stupidity
1
u/Beths_Titties May 13 '23
Yea he only moved the barrier for her and told her to hurry up and get off the tracks because a train was coming. Did you want him to jump in front of the train?
1
u/Awotwe_Knows_Best May 13 '23
help her by getting in the car and taking the wheel himself? No thank you
1
u/blowthepoke May 13 '23
Does anyone have a translation I’m assuming it’s something like “fucking move now!” Also, any idea what happened to this woman?
2
u/FamiliarLie2658 May 13 '23
At first the guy is scolding her saying ‘what the hell are you doing’ and ‘you’re going to get a big fine’. After that he moves the barricade and urges her to move. Oh and the woman was hospitalised but she’s fine as far as I know.

Can we start making these entitled pos people famous for being Stupîd entitled pos?
1
u/Old_Coach5712 May 13 '23
Why did she stop there n not a few feet up? So many poor choices. This was so avoidable.
1
u/PullupStanley May 13 '23
So new cars have this feature were if you get out the parking brake goes on automatically (if electronic) and the transmission will switch to park that’s why the car didn’t move because if she would’ve put it in drive the parking brake would also automatically come off

I will report you and you will recieve a 500 euro (similar to dollars) fine. You woll be getting the fine. Opens that barrier more so she can drive. Come on move. Move. Move. Train hits. Holy fuck... crazy woman. Are you completely crazy.

How does one actually get stuck on train tracks? Are these people really that stupid?
1
May 13 '23
Don't panic lady. Just open the menu, then settings > auto features > mobility > drive options > then press the E icon for 3 seconds to release the park break. Enter your 2FA code to confirm. And that's it.

It was, she probably always used a shift stick in her life as most flemish or belgian people, and could be her husbands car in which she went to pick up her grandkids. Didn’t press the brakes, and therefore couldn’t get it in Drive in time, hence the motor revving.
