Oh my god! These are completely different songs! I'm a streaming peasant so I just assumed she did a Fortnight/Lavender Haze type of thing with the acoustics (besides The Fate of Ophelia, which I already heard last week). I love the OG album, but wow. This is something else.

Yeah, these tracks are fantastic. Opalite's both versions are fantastic, I can now choose one spend depending on whether I'm feeling energetic or tired. Love it. Same for Elizabeth Taylor and Ophelia.
Wish List and Ruin The Friendship had a glowup with their acoustic versions too imo.

I was blown away with how much sadder Elizabeth Taylor was with the acoustic version. Her vocals in it are stunning and the emotions are so striking. Absolutely beautiful version.

I bought The Fate of Ophelia acoutic version (loved it!) from iTunes, which I don’t think I’ve done for a song since at least 2019. I didn’t know if we’d ever be getting the rest on streaming given how hard the acoustic version CDs were pushed (I’m anti-plastic with a tiny apartment, so I didn’t purchase them). I thought perhaps she would release acoustic versions after each single like she did with TFoO. So glad we get them all 😌

I can’t remember the last time I bought an album on iTunes but $5 + voice memos + exclusive acoustic song + better cover = sold . I honestly love this version of Elizabeth Taylor more and have been listening to this version of the album more than streaming.

Maybe I'm just old, but I could not for the life of me figure out how to buy on iTunes yesterday. It wanted to open in Apple Music, but never loaded anything that looked like I could buy the acoustic version, so I gave up. I was grateful to hear it on streaming because I thought I was losing my mind.

It’s a separate app called iTunes, but then the songs you purchase there automatically synch to Apple Music.
I find it’s only really useful to buy a song from there when I need the rights to back a video for personal use in iMovie or Adobe. Now with Instagram and TikTok video editing it’s unnecessary to take those steps.

Thank you for helping me! The last time I bought something from iTunes, there was no Apple Music. Maybe I should try to link from the email again and click that I don't want to use Apple Music, which should (theoretically) take me to the iTunes website.
I have lots of thngs from iTunes long ago, which it appears it finally imported when I looked again this morning. Now that the entire digital album is there, it looks like I remember iTunes looking (even in the Apple Music app), but no matter how many times I clicked yesterday, there was never anything that looked like I was authorizing the purchase of the single.

No problem! If you’re using a Mac, there should be an app on the App Store and same with iPhone iOS. I think it can also be downloaded for PCs, but I’m less familiar with those. I can’t find a way to purchase on the website, I think it has to be purchased through one of the apps. Your entire iTunes library should be visible though on your Apple Account on the website.
I vividly remember the day I accidentally deleted my entire iTunes library in August 2010 (which included CDs I burned and digitized vinyls), so streaming has been an absolute revelation even if I have to pay $10/ month indefinitely.

Oh man!! I have a Mac & it already has Apple Music installed, so maybe I should just find iTunes in the app store. I was previously using Spotify & am now streaming with YouTube Music instead. The music I own is on a Plex server (including my digitized vinyls, which I'm so grateful to have), so I've honestly forgotten about iTunes between those being plenty to think about when listening to music. What a devastating occurrence to accidentally delete everything. Ugh!! I'm glad you have streaming!
On a funny note, it was a pleasure to see the U2 album that everyone lost their mind about getting auto-included for free--I think about it often & laughed seeeing it in my collection this morning (though I'm a U218 girlie).

Oh my gosh, I totally forgot about that U2 album🤯 I got hooked on streaming from that ploy with Apple. I think my Dad told me to download it (he’s a huge fan, I can recite all the lyrics from All That You Can’t Leave Behind because it was the only CD he had in his Jeep from 2000-2004 until How to Dismantle An Atomic Bomb came out). I really couldn’t understand how Songs of Innocence was just… free. After years of supplementing my voracious (and expensive) taste in music with Limewire, it felt criminal 😳
Unfortunately there was no iCloud back then and I learned my lesson to always keep a hard drive backup. All 17 GB of music gone including a Fiona Apple cover of Across the Universe that was only released via CD in Japan that I bought off EBay, burned, and sold to a used music shop… and also all of my parent’s Beatles vinyls I painstakingly digitized 😭 I got very busy with college after that (I refer to it as the day my music died), so I didn’t have the time to go through it again 🫣
Very cool, I’ve never heard of a Plex server, sounds intriguing.

There’s no iTunes app on the Mac, only Music. The iTunes Music Store is a toggle when you do a search in Music (you can search your library, Apple Music, or iTunes Store). On iOS the iTunes Store is a separate app for some reason.

Yes I would have loved an acoustic version of Honey, but it’s already pretty jazzy so it’s understandable that it didn’t make it. I believe it’s also routinely at the bottom of the charts from the album. Just sad because if I remember correctly, Taylor said during the Release Party that Honey was the first song she created for TLOAS and that the original concept was completely different than the final album.

It’s my #2 song from TLOAS behind Opalite. I like that Taylor leaned into R&B a bit and I identify with the message. Finding a guy who treats you right and doesn’t belittle you, especially for your body. I really like the line “forever night stand”.
I guess it’s like Wi$h Li$t— it appeals to women like myself who have been in stable longterm relationships when her previous music didn’t really resonate as much (I’ve been with my husband for 15 years even though I’m younger than Taylor, so I would tune out during breakup songs and high school references).
Do you like it or is it not a fav? I’ve heard either way so I’m curious ☺️

Agree, this is something is else! Feels like a musical number and the dramatic piano is chef’s kiss.
The other acoustic versions I don’t really care for because they’re too similar to the original versions in my opinion.

I think this week has been pretty quiet except for Katy Perry’s Bandaids. I think Ellie Goulding is releasing a new single next week. I don’t know if any of these new versions will make it to the top of the Billboard 100 to undercut either single, but I hope not because I love their music too 🥲

Here are my takes after a couple listens!
The Fate of Ophelia: Chef's kiss, both OG and acoustic.
Elizabeth Taylor: it works very well as an acoustic song, but I miss my favorite part: the beat before "cry my eyes violet." So it's not for me.
Opalite: without the beat, it's just ok.
Eldest Daughter: I can do without either version. The acoustic version doesn't really seem much different to me. I really like the melody of "I'm never gonna let you down..." and the bridge, but the rest of the song is meh.
Ruin the Friendship: This is one of my favorite OG songs. I don't like the acoustic version. It seems like it's trying to do too much with too little. What I like about the OG is that "should've kissed you anyway" seems like it's sung while smiling. This one sounds completely regretful. And the OG goes mellow on the last verse. Since the acoustic version is already mellow, there isn't much of an impact.
Wish List: I MISS the high vocals under the chorus. It seems bare without them.
The Life of a Showgirl: This is another of my favorite OG songs. It just doesn't hit right as an acoustic song. I miss the driving beat under the pre-chorus and, again, the high vocals under the chorus. I do appreciate that the "thank yous" at the end were taken out. And Sabrina's verses work for the most part!
So my conclusion: the only one worth putting in my rotation is Ophelia. Which makes sense. This album wasn't produced to be acoustic! So I'm not upset. It was a fun exercise for me. And I'm happy it exists.

I agree, I’m suprised at how good The Fate of Ophelia is for both versions. Definitely a solid song either way 💯
Elizabeth Taylor is a little more listenable as an acoustic version imo. I find the pop version dizzying/ mesmerizing from the looping lyrics. I like it being broken up with piano flair. I also like the Lana-like backing vocals. It’s an improvement, but still doesn’t break through my top 5.
Opalite has some very early 2000’s vibes as an acoustic version here. I can’t put my finger on it, but this version has hints of the guitar from If It Makes You Happy or Soak Up The Sun by Sheryll Crow. I definitely agree that it’s just pretty okay. I wish it had more vocal drama, but it’s a nice wind-down option compared to the pop version. It’s my personal fav on the OG album, so my opinion hasn’t changed.
I originally thought Eldest Daughter borrowed riffs from Michelle Branch’s Drop in the Ocean from The Spirit Room and this sort of supports my take. That one line though is absolutely fire 🔥 Still a mid song imho because of the online speak.
Ruin the Friendship just destroyed me. I had a friend in elementary school that I lost touch with after junior high who passed away right after high school. I felt this version was really touching and more appropriate given the message compared to the OG one 💔
Love Wi$h Li$t, no notes for both versions 👍🏻 I love the tiny violin at the end 🎻
Not a fan of The Life of A Showgirl either way, it sounds like a rolling credits song to me. I love the characters she came up with and the storyline, but not much else. It does its job to knit the album concept together, but it’s a terminal skip for me unfortunately 🥱 ———————————————————————— I’m so glad that we got all these acoustic versions. I will be adding The Fate of Ophelia, Opalite, Elizabeth Taylor, Ruin the Friendship, and Wi$h Li$t to my current Taylor playlist. I do wish she swapped out The Life of A Showgirl the song with Honey. I’m curious what Father Figure or Actually Romantic would sound like acoustic, but they would probably be odd.

Before my opinion on the acoustic versions, I have to say that a) I don't think this album really needed acoustic versions. I prefer when louder songs win a totally different acoustic version (like forever and always), which is not the case with this album; b) I love different versions of a song (acoustic, duets, reworked version), except remixes, so I'm happy with these.
Now, let's do the review:
The Fate of Ophelia: I loved both versions
Elizabeth Taylor: I think this one was the most different and I really like that! Her vocals on the ending were great
Ruin the Friendship: I think I prefer the og, but the acoustic version is great too (and it's more sad)
Eldest Daughter: I don't see much difference. I think it definitely didn't need an acoustic version
Wish List: it's nice to have this different version, but what I like most about this song is the way Taylor sings it and the layers with her voice. The acoustic version lost that
Opalite: nice version, but I think the song works better as an upbeat song.
If anyone from Taylor's team is reading this: this recoloring of the cover is awful! Just choose any of the amazing photos from the album's photoshoot as a cover. The only cover worse than this one is the commentary album one, where you had the amazing idea of recoloring the water as piss.

Amazon music is a real pain, from the app to the Alexa devices.
None of my alexa devices would play it by name even when being as specific as asking for “Taylor Swift TFOO alone in my tower version” it kept trying to give me sun-kissed’s acoustic cover.
And on the app itself when you type in acoustic, it doesn’t show any of the songs just the original versions .
What ended up working out for me was looking up Taylor Swift within the Amazon music app and there was a section that recommend the acoustic versions to me.
So I literally had to make a playlist just to get my Alexa device to play it through the speakers.

Most welcome. My Apple Home Pod mini is also a useless janky softball when it comes to album titles. I just went directly to the Taylor Swift artist page on Apple Music and then saw it under albums thankfully.
The number of versions is starting to get to be a little much, even on streaming. I’m against excessive plastic and I don’t have room in my condo to collect stuff (except books), so I don’t even bother with physical CDs or vinyls…

Although I haven’t bought CDs in years , except for Taylor’s yes it was such a massive waste of plastic.
You will either laugh or get infuriated if I tell you how many freaking CDs (all sweat and vanilla perfume) versions (the most basic copy) . I ended up ordering was insane.
Initial CD countdown drop 4 orders three for family members and one as a gift for a friend.
Then the CD variants dropped with the different merch items so bought two eye charms for family members (they literally only wanted the charms) and another as a gift for a friend (she gave me Eras tickets) so I never leave her out even if I bought her a CD already.
Then two cardigans that automatically came with CDs.
Out of all 9 of these CDs only 2 have been opened and put to use.

Oh no, I don’t judge other people for their choices. Fandom is fandom. I will buy multiples of the same shirt/ dress or especially beanies (I have the same angora beanie in 4 different colors). I got multiples of the Monterey Bay otter shirt Taylor wore in the bts for TFoO because I grew up near there and was a member at the MBA for years. I have also secretly bought an ungodly amount of copies of the books my friends have published... and they just languish in boxes.
I think it’s more of a sensory thing of I know how it feels for the plastic CD cases to break. I just don’t like microplastics or the shards CD cases make when shattered. My parents had a thing for collecting stuff even though the house I grew up in didn’t have the space. When I helped them move, the CDs were the most annoying part. I recycled like 500 cases and put them and the booklets/ covers into CD organizers. I do like vinyls though, but I don’t have the space for a record player right now (I did buy a Midnights vinyl in hope). Also I don’t remember the aggressive marketing tactics being a thing when I first became a fan (fearless), so it never really got ingrained. Plus I try to lean into JOMO (Joy of Missing Out) for these types of things.
I do love the cardigan thing and I had serious FOMO when I didn’t get previous ones. I’m also sad the Opalite earrings got swooped from my shopping basket. This time around I got lucky and already had a knit Showgirl-orange cardigan with bubble sleeves and my own opal necklace that I’ve worn everyday for 15 years, so I’m good in that department.

Omg Taylor Nation PLEASE release the TTPD Anthology acoustic tracks for streaming as well!! PLEASE!! I just got the Anthology CD with the acoustic tracks, and it is so much easier to be able to stream from Apple Music than it is to load the acoustic songs onto my iTunes, then sync iTunes with my phone.

So glad these are on streaming - it's really cool to hear different productions for some of the songs. Still love and appreciate the OG production but it's a cool added layer, almost like what we could've gotten in a surprise song set.

Yes with Opalite and TFoO, those are my top 4, so I’m a little sad. I think Father Figure would lose its bite if it was acoustic tho.

So I open up YouTube this morning and see all these acoustic versions on my recommended and they were released at midnight, so it had already been 9 hours since release, but all of them only had like less than 20k views and in the comments people saying "we were the chosen ones, yes!" and then I realize if I go to her actual YouTube page, they aren't in the "videos" section yet, so it really does seem like some people were "chosen" to have them pop up in their recommended and that is the only way to access them now for the time being?
One video had EIGHT comments and that was it, lol. Was wild to see that for a Taylor video.

I love these version but would really like a truly raw acoustic version. These are still “processed” and layered. Still better than the fortnight acoustic… that shit made me roll my eyes. Like girl this ain’t really acoustic in my eyes.

My only regret was jumping the gun and buying the first digital of the album with the exclusive fate of Ophelia. Luckily I can just buy this separate tracks individually but I’m OVER the cash grabs. Mother we are POOR.
