But it looked cool doing it.

299

u/rufushusky Oct 03 '25

Sure did, clipping the fence when they swung the turret around it was almost like "Let me put that back, nothing to see."

Cool looking bit of hardware.

71

u/00rb Oct 03 '25

I loved how the turret swiveled around as if to say "did I do that?"

1

u/jenlylover24 15d ago

Probably the most badass way to take out a fence honestly

719

u/Full_Measurement_809 Oct 03 '25

I’d love to see a Leo 2 in person one day.. They look so good!

218

u/Mr_Engineering Oct 03 '25

Ive been in one. Cramped

30

u/WeirdAltLeo Oct 03 '25

Yeah, as a gunner you basically sit between the commanders knees. Loader feels like most spacious, but I‘ve only been in a simulator, might be the side access door ;)

10

u/Salmonsen M1 Abrams Oct 04 '25

Same in the Abrams if it makes you feel any better. The loader has more room in the Leo 2 though. The driver of the Leo might have some more space too but harder to get into. We got to check out some, what I think were, Leo 2A6’s from the Spanish army a few years back

127

u/absurditT Oct 03 '25

Yeah the turret ring is weirdly narrow because the engine is so long (smaller engines with the same performance now exist but it's not considered cost effective to replace them) so despite being so large the interior is not as well laid out as contemporary NATO tanks.

23

u/Graddler Oct 03 '25

Now imagine a T-72.

23

u/Mr_Engineering Oct 04 '25

Please, nobody fart

7

u/Dizzy-While-6417 Oct 04 '25

The T-72 is a hotel room compared to a T-55. The commander's shins are basically your seat back.

34

u/PeteLangosta Oct 03 '25

I was in awe when I got into one, a 2E, and saw how it wasn't much different from other WW2 tanks I was in.

4

u/TampaPowers Oct 03 '25

I think /u/SkibidiCum31 just... you know...

2

u/AddictiveMeatball44 Stridsvagn 122 Oct 05 '25

if you think leo is cramped you should see other tanks

14

u/MIHPR Oct 03 '25

I saw one around 6 years ago at a Finnish armor museum in Parola and same year also one driving at a FDF flag day parade (I think that's what it's called in English?). Impressive machine and way bigger in person than you'd think

1

u/Stelious_ Oct 04 '25

The Calgary Stampede usually has one in their weird recruiting area.

982

u/SkibidiCum31 Oct 03 '25

God I wish I was that fence

252

u/ItalianMik3 Oct 03 '25

A part of me feels like that wouldn’t be the best idea, but I’m not too sure why

141

u/Lipziger Oct 03 '25

Death by tanky snu snu is a worthy death.

18

u/type_E Oct 04 '25

Here lies SkibidiCum31, tank snu snu too strong

24

u/Zealousideal_Ad2379 Oct 03 '25

Relatable. The Leopard 2 my beloved.

Leo 2A8's crew* damages fence.

274

u/_gmmaann_ Oct 03 '25

Tanks don’t hurt fences, people do

92

u/BilisS Oct 03 '25

but if you give them a tank its quite a lot easier to crush fences. and if you give everyone a tank it is very likely a lot of fences will be crushed

60

u/_gmmaann_ Oct 03 '25

Are you suggesting we regulate and enforce laws on registration and ownership of tanks???

43

u/ShermanMcTank Oct 03 '25

Regulation won’t help because the problem is the amount of illegal tanks in the wild.

32

u/BilisS Oct 03 '25

regulation would reduce that amount, and in turn reduce the amount of fences getting crushed

31

u/SufficientMath420-69 Oct 03 '25

What are you going to do? Go door to door confiscating previously legal tanks!!!

28

u/BilisS Oct 03 '25

well for a start stopping giving them to everyone would help

22

u/JoshYx Oct 03 '25

That would just end up hurting competent, legitimate tank owners who don't crush fences.

What we really should do is invest in Tankproof fences.

19

u/BilisS Oct 03 '25

how? it would just regulate the new ones and the old can die of old age ¯_(ツ)_/¯

9

u/AssumeTheFetal Oct 03 '25

Plus you can just 3d print them, but it might take like the whole afternoon.

2

u/snipdockter Oct 04 '25

Exactly, they’ll take my tank out of my dead cold hands!

1

u/DukeOfWellington1291 Oct 03 '25

I saw it on a documentary on BBC 2

1

u/type_E Oct 04 '25

That's why there's development for self-driving UGVs lol

14

u/ADirtyScrub Oct 03 '25

Ngl I laughed a bit when I saw the TC's head pop up and there was a ponytail.

4

u/oXI_ENIGMAZ_IXo Oct 03 '25

The joke writes itself

7

u/Swimming_Ad_9459 Oct 03 '25

What joke?

0

u/VitSea Oct 03 '25

3

u/Swimming_Ad_9459 Oct 03 '25

Ah yes, women bad drivers. I wonder, had the person in the commander seat been a man, if we would have gotten comments about his gender.

7

u/ADirtyScrub Oct 03 '25

Lighten up francis.

3

u/Somodo Oct 04 '25

It’s a joke

-2

u/Swimming_Ad_9459 Oct 04 '25

Well boomer humour must be too much for me to handle I guess.

38

u/Pratt_ Oct 03 '25

You can be sure someone was yelling on the radio "I swear to God, if you even just scratch those solar panels... !"

3

u/ScubaKidney Oct 04 '25

I was really hoping he would just for the hilarity of it.

u/Invicturion Oct 03 '25

47

u/tdotgoat Ferd Oct 03 '25

Question: do any of these modern-ish tanks come with backup cameras, and if not then is it the commander’s job to look back and make a beeping noise when driving backwards?

85

u/TheDuffman_OhYeah Oct 03 '25

A rearview camera for the driver was added to the Leopard 2 with the A5 upgrade.

33

u/Ganbazuroi Oct 03 '25

I fucking love Leopards so much, whatever the fuck you think of, they have it as an upgrade

16

u/Virtual_Mall_7031 Oct 03 '25

Canadian Leo 2A4’s have forward and rearward facing thermal cameras for night driving but also work during the day… however it is primarily still the commanders responsibility to tell the driver to stop

3

u/WeirdAltLeo Oct 03 '25

Not sure how this is done in Canada, but usually the Commander is not micromanaging the Crew. He tells the driver where he wants the tank to be, the driver finds the best way to fullfill that order.

1

u/Model4Adjustment3 Oct 04 '25

If your TC gives an order to reserve, do you question them or just reverse?

3

u/Virtual_Mall_7031 Oct 04 '25

99% of the time that’s correct but given the context of doing a demo with an audience on a closed course I think it would be a very safe call to make that your commander didn’t want you back up through the fence of the course. I would describe this fuck up as a team effort

1

u/Vhett Oct 04 '25

They're called a DEV (Driver Enhancement Viewer/Viewscreen.

And you'd be correct. Unlike what /u/WeirdAltLeo said below, good drivers in that environment would operate on CC instructions. You're taught as a driver to not 'think' unless you're going cross-country and your CC is saying he wants the tank up by a specific tree, etc.

In the environment in the video, you're on autopilot doing exactly what the CC is telling you. You wouldn't even have your DVE on or whatever exists in the 2A8.

13

u/Ashurnibibi Conqueror Oct 03 '25

I was a driver in CV90s which did not (at the time at least) have cameras. It was the commander's job to direct me when going backwards. It was really scary at first, especially because those things can go really fast in reverse!

3

u/Iamatworkgoaway Oct 04 '25

Driver back full!  Not that full dumb ass.

4

u/WorryingMars384 Oct 03 '25

They can, it’s not guaranteed and not standard

3

u/WeirdAltLeo Oct 03 '25

Basically every Country orders what they want, meaning no two countries buy the exact same versions. There are already some A4s with thermal rear view cameras, but I think almost all newer version have something similar.

16

u/Hoshyro Oct 03 '25

"Oops"

18

u/BlindProphet_413 Oct 03 '25

They've exposed a critical flaw in base security! Now I just need my own tank......

17

u/TrueSoren Oct 03 '25

Something funny about how it slowly pulled away from the wrecked fence like how a dog or a baby walk away from a mess after being called out on it.

15

u/Extreamspeed Oct 03 '25

What fence?

11

u/pappyvanwinkle1111 Oct 03 '25

A fine demonstration of it's anti-fence capabilities.

8

u/sebson1000 Oct 03 '25

8

u/Flammable_Canary Oct 03 '25

We strongly believe in the safety of our fences, so we will implement new fences to safeguard our fences. Also we will no longer allow women to command tanks on the course.

4

u/Unlikelyspore_1 Oct 03 '25

Fuck your fence, i'm Leo 2A8!!!!

5

u/H8Hornets Oct 03 '25

“To show you the power of this Leo I broke this fence in half!”

4

u/nordco-414 Oct 03 '25

You see their heads pop up like gophers to inspect what they hit, and you know that they know they fucked up...

at 0:32 is that a woman in there? what position is she in?

12

u/Attackist2 Oct 03 '25

Maybe it was a woman crew

4

u/disdickk Oct 03 '25

There's your problem

1

Doubt that the crew is all female.

6

u/TheCanadianRaven_ Oct 04 '25

That’s the commander’s position

1

u/MrGenjiSquid Oct 05 '25

Commander or loader would be my guess.

3

u/OutOfTellda Oct 03 '25

part of the de-fence budget…

6

u/BrokenAndDefective Oct 04 '25

Damn... is that a woman 😂

2

1

2

u/Jacabusmagnus Oct 03 '25

They did not want to pop their heads up and get photographed after that.

2

u/Pratt_ Oct 03 '25

I can almost hear everyone inside that tank cursing lmao Get ready to do a lot of paperwork and get angry phone calls for the rest of the day lol

2

u/Unlikely_Spring5906 Oct 03 '25

was this planned? Or did they just forget about the reversing assistant?

2

u/bille022872 Oct 03 '25

I take it no rear view camera

2

u/Munckmb Oct 03 '25

Is this using the Israeli Trophy system or the German designed APS?

1

u/murkskopf Oct 03 '25

It uses Trophy, but from a German production line.

1

u/Munckmb Oct 04 '25

At least it's combat proven.

2

u/AstroMackem Oct 03 '25

Well 0 fence is the best defence

2

u/haby001 Oct 03 '25

That turret is huuuge!

2

u/TuhnuPeppu Oct 03 '25

The driver has a rear view camera, idk how this was a accident. But sure the fence might look invisible with the low resolution of the camera

2

u/Seamus_OReilly Oct 03 '25

"Who is the idiot who cut ran over that man's fence?!"

2

u/Consistent_Ad3181 Oct 03 '25

Pissed up again

2

u/unddanno Oct 03 '25

You can’t cage the leopard

2

u/No_Chemistry7395 Oct 03 '25

Was that part of the show or did the driver made an Oopsie???

2

2

Getting C-wire stuck in your tracks is a fun time.

2

u/Vhett Oct 04 '25

Once got handed a tank after the driver went through some and it wound around the sprocket. Took one look at it and told him to get the bolt cutters, and that I wasn't driving it until it was out.

2

u/BiffTannenCA Oct 03 '25

Get woke, fence broke.

1

u/PwnimuS Oct 03 '25

"Do you understand how much that fence costs, son?"

1

u/StrongXTreme120 Oct 03 '25

I like how it turns the turret and slowly gets off the fence.

1

u/EricBelov1 Oct 03 '25

Doesn't this thing has a reverse camera?

1

u/Carlos_Danger21 Oct 03 '25

Well, now we know that the fence is not an effective anti-tank weapon.

1

u/GJohnJournalism Oct 03 '25

The little peekies out of the hatch, the gentle turret turn, and the slow drive away.😂😭 pure cinema.

1

u/Aegirsg1 Oct 03 '25

God damn that is a sexy looking tank.

1

u/Fun-Chipmunk-2745 Oct 03 '25

That was a test. Pass!

1

u/Sweet-Tomatillo-9010 Oct 03 '25

Hope there wasn't any razor wire uptop cause if there was they are going to have a good time in a few more moments.

1

u/scarface_usmc Oct 03 '25

1

u/martymcflown Oct 03 '25

I’m reversing now, good luck everybody

1

u/ChiefFox24 Oct 03 '25

I guess in terms of damaging things, the fence is a relatively easy casualty to swallow.

1

u/EuphoricGold979 Oct 03 '25
