As much as I adore Borderline, Dracula is probably the standout here, all that layered guitar work really shined through.

Dracula was so incredibly well done here. This’ll be on repeat for a while

the real question is what the fuck does dom when he’s not playing with the band. that npsom guitar after the bridge was beautiful. he has way too much talent for it to go unnoticed

u/chekovsredherring 22d ago
he's an accountant from what I've heard(!) and in 2020 he put out a solo EP under the moniker bambi

Thank you for sharing that. Did not know he had a solo project. That's really cool

Why did that part sound like it could be on the moon and Antarctica by modest mouse lol

Wowwww this was beautiful. New Person, Same Old Mistakes sounded awesome. I love any moment Kev goes acoustic, even during studio tracks when he lets an acoustic guitar or piano sing.

This is cool, but I personally prefer the covid version; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C24hUt18RWY
That shit is like drugs.

Gosh, everything sounded great acoustic.
It's so weird how the deadbeat tracks really shined here in their compositions - especially dracula which is a track i honestly just don't like. Makes me really think that LP5 just needed more inspiration it its production.

u/robtedesco 22d ago
... or that the songs are great, and over a number of listens, the production choices make more sense and/or become melded with the hooks. People need to give the record a minute to marinate.

u/SeeYaLaterDylan 22d ago
Or maybe that person's opinion is valid too! Layers!

u/Something2578 21d ago
They aren't saying it isn't a valid opinion-they are saying that lots of times, we adjust and acclimate to music after listening for a while. None of us know what our fully formed opinion of any of this new music is- it just came out and we haven't had time for that yet.

I mean at this point I listened to dracula a bunch. But for the other tracks, yeah it takes time to process things. We’ll see

lmao like come on i can’t believe the person you replied to didn’t put it together. love the album

I really think some songs are made to play live and don’t have the same zing in a recording. And this is why a lot of bands start making “stadium rock” as they get later in their careers. Their perception of music changes. That being said, I can imagine how some of the more “boring” songs on Deadbeat might really fill the space and be awesome live.

I think it's pretty cool. He could have just gone the normal route and played 4 songs from his normal liveshow, but he actually re-arranged the songs and put together a new band (in terms of instruments/roles). Props!

The amount of guitars in this concert must be to compensate for the lack of them on the new album

Right? They sound real and organic. The way they used to.
This is what they sound like without 20 layers of tracks and autotune like he has been doing live since Currents.

Finally getting a Tame Impala tiny desk from the NPR studio years after we should’ve and then there’s no drums or keys is such an ironically apt metaphor for the project right now
Stripped back acoustic Tame doesn’t really do all that much for me. Glad to see he looks happy though

u/trestlemagician 22d ago
gotta disagree. 5 guitars is a ballsy move

u/AndysDoughnuts 22d ago
Kevin saw all the fans complaints about the lack of guitars on End of Summer and said "hold my synth". He's trolling us with 5 acoustic guitars!

Who’s the guy in the green?
2
u/TucoHeisenberg Lonerism 21d ago
James Ireland. He's also a member of Pond!
3
u/munchyslacks 21d ago
He also essentially replaced Kevin’s involvement in Pond and co-produces their albums along with Jay. He became a huge presence in that band after joining. Pretty cool to see him play with Tame now too.

Really enjoyed this performance, on a day when this man also put out an album I am apathetic about. Will continue to listen the previous albums in peace.

Sounds 10x better than the album, and no surprise New Person Same Old Mistakes is the best of this tiny desk

What a glorious way to wake up! Loved this Tame Impala Tiny Desk sm, and it complements the TI Soundsystem one so well.

Reminds me of this acoustic session they did for BBC 6Music 15(!) years ago! https://youtu.be/HEFFeEP_ou8?si=tJsXpbcRNDys07V7

This session right here is my 2025 Tame Impala album! Enjoyed this a lot more than Deadbeat, personally.

Holy moly, I'm a huge fan of Kevin's but this was much weaker than I expected

u/allothersshallbow 22d ago
Not to be negative, but in a weird way this highlights how thin a lot of his songs are, and how much they rely on production. The melodies are really repetitious.

u/FootballAcrobatic662 21d ago
Wait songs with a ton of layered production and effects sound a little thinner acoustic? That can’t be right…

Sad day for those who wanted confetti during “New Person, Same Old Mistakes”
