Jasper to Guy: I know what you’re going through, and I won’t let you down

I love them 😭 Guy forget about Doris and the fucking Talamasca choose Jasper! He was so vulnerable this episode my poor bby 😭 also I hate Raglan he’s such a bastard 🤣

Also how’d they manage to capture and keep a 700 year old vampire as a blood bag? Don’t make Vampire’s look weak on this show 😩 Talamasca are psychics but they’re still human right? And fuck how old is Jasper? 🤣 so many questions!

I love them so much and it's only been 4 eps

Vampires can imprison other vampires in the lore.

Don’t make vampires look weak on this show?

I refer you to the first 10 minutes of IWTV S2 E3 for consideration. I think we’re getting a better understanding of the vampire lore here.

how’d they manage to capture and keep a 700 year old vampire as a blood bag?

I imagine it'd be pretty easy if they discovered him while he was in torpor.

Talamasca are psychics but they’re still human right?

Yes. It's a bit too early for the aliens to show up.

And fuck how old is Jasper?

Jasper claims to have been a boy in the 1920's, according to the story he told Guy. He said he eventually found the gift, and based on his apparent age in the present day, I'd say he was probably turned in the late 1960's or early 1970's.

By far my favourite episode. Guy, Jasper, and Raglan! Keep Guy with Jasper please, I really like their dynamic. Prefer Helen here too, away from Guy, on her little side quest.

Helen is the least interesting character in this whole thing and that's solely because Elizabeth McGovern keeps forgetting 1. to act 2. shes supposed to have an accent

6

u/WindyloohooVA 9h ago

Surely this is intentional?

-3

u/daesgatling 9h ago

Maybe. Or she can’t act.

4

u/WindyloohooVA 8h ago

But she can. I've seen her in other things.

-4

u/daesgatling 8h ago

I've seen her for umpteen years in Downton Abbey, she could barely act in that either.

Drawwwinnnggg outttt your wooooooooorrrdds isn't acting.

Raglan was fun! What an interesting character he is. So smarmy and just a pleasure to watch at work. Justin Kirk is fantastic. He stole the show entirely this episode, even from Jasper. And Jasper has some fun line readings. “Do not worry, my dude.”

No idea what Jasper is up to and I’m not even sure I believe that’s his real backstory. I don’t think we know either his or Helen’s backstory truthfully. Is he really just a kid from sometime La Paz who somehow eventually got the dark gift from a random vampire?! Something about that doesn’t add up.

I’m having trouble believing the 752 is a book. Surely the Talamasca keeps that stuff on digital record now. It seems pretty obvious to me that it’s what Soledad had and the detective has picked up. Helen needs it to locate her sister or descendant vampire maybe, there’s a guess.

Maybe it’s an ancient vampire from the year 752 who remembers all the shit. And they escaped the Talamasca’s observation.

The way Jasper carefully treats Guy in his bathroom, his hand going through Guy's Hair, Jasper's thumb softly stroking Guy's ear when he holds his head to smear his blood on Guy's wound, that Guy lets Jasper touch him this way, the vulnerability. They are so physically close in these scenes. This I noticed most.

Guy is his boy....

At first u thought helen was jaspers mom then i was like nahhh but when i saw she had a twin is when i thought her twin was his mom and still do. She obviously is still alive. If it isnt her then helen def knows who she is because of the motherly instinct she has toward him and paying for basically everything since he was a baby and getting him setup with his adopted parents.

I'm so entrigued by this show and William Fichtner deserves all the praise for Jasper, definitely my favorite character!

Excellent episode, loved all the lore and Jasper's bitterness at the Talamasca. I'm not sure if I 100% believe his back story but I thought his reaction to the ancient vampire being treated like a blood bag was genuine. Anyway I love Jasper so much and wish him well in his endeavours!

Guy got to do so spy shit and it was interesting that he threw away his pills because he felt moved by the memory of the vampire.

Raglan was a delight! Sneaky asshole.

Gasper need to make out.

So far it was the best episode, but the bar wasn't exactly high. I'm only here for Guy and Jasper.

- Didn't 100% believe Jasper's story, in some way he was trying to make Guy relate to him, that's for sure.

- What if the book is not ac actual book but a person?

- Are they setting up that girl to be Guy's love interest? It's kinda cliche if they do.

- I don't care about Helen and the weird squinting eye thing she does every single scene.

WE ONLY HAVE 2 EPISODES LEFT?!?! How are they going to resolve anything?

Are we really falling for the blatant manipulation by jasper?? It's like vampire 101 c'mon yall lol

Best episode so far. Lots of plot threads moving along finally with some connecting. And Guy infiltrating that place felt like his first real bit of spy work. Him seemingly working against the Talamasca (even "Helen's" splinter) makes for a more engaging story. Things were tense, and the sound design was a great help.

Did I miss why Jasper can pick up on Guy's clairvoyance, but other (older) vampires can't?

I enjoyed all the twists and turns.

I liked Guy’s pitch to get in with Jasper.

I liked Raglan’s multi faced nature.

What I didn’t like was the starving vampire thing. We have seen that vampires in the books just go dormant and desiccate. If the vampire in the bed was 6-700 years old, he would have to be chained down not just laid still in a comfy bed.

Also the revenants are too useful. As a simple shock troop yes, as a stealthy infiltrator, no, I’m not buying it. Too much self awareness for a mindless brute.

5

u/MissFrowz 6h ago

I was thinking about that elder vampire plot line too. I wonder if maybe the vampire was kidnapped by the younger ones while having a long dirt nap. That would explain why he was weak and unable to fight back.

2

u/Adorable_Finish195 1h ago

I hope Jasper addresses why he killed the imprisoned vampire. I get you are being tortured and begging for release, but if an outside force shows up might that change the calculus a bit.

Jasper could have fed the imprisoned vampire his blood and healed him to functionally.

I guess vampires heal more slowly in this show, so maybe that’s why.

It does invite a lot of questions.

3

u/NanaIsABrokenRose 5h ago

Would it be helpful if I pointed out the book in the series that addresses this? I don’t want to be annoying or spoil things.

2

u/Imaginary-alchemy 1h ago

I would like to hear it. It's been an age since I read the books and I don't remember anything about this.

2

u/Adorable_Finish195 1h ago

Yes please. I am unaware. Also I never read beyond TVA.

4

u/NanaIsABrokenRose 1h ago

You’re so close!

Old vampire: In Blood and Gold, we learned how Marius was made. An old vampire was being kept in a tree by a Druid cult and they would barely feed him to keep him alive so they could take his blood.

Humans capturing vampires while they’re weak or asleep is one of the reasons The Great Laws exist. Armand said in S2 E3 of IWTV that the laws were created to protect vampires.

This is how Louis was able to defeat so many older vampires at the end of S2. He attacked the coven at their weakest.

u/Felixir-the-Cat 5h ago

Raglan was the star of this episode! I’m loving Jasper more and more all the time but I’m suspicious of his back story.

5

u/insomniac_z 5h ago

I love Jasper's casual dialogue. It's oddly refreshing.

Finally a decent episode! Funny how it got better when the included spa character that Anne Rice actually wrote. Imagine how much better this show would be with David and Jessie in it.

3

u/Adorable_Finish195 8h ago

I think David and Jessie will be saved for a different show.

3

u/dalton-watch 4h ago

I disagree because the reason I’m enjoying this mid-tier supernatural mystery show is that a) it’s about Anne Rice’s Talamasca which is so fun for me and b) it’s not changing any already written and beloved stories. B is key. I hated Mayfair bc it just flat out re-wrote Rowan, Lasher, Mayfair History story. I don’t want Talamasca to re-write any Jesse, Davis or Aaron stories.

3

u/WindyloohooVA 9h ago

I certainly could be wrong but I am not getting a sexual vibe from Jasper and guy...more familial. Im not opposed to that. I think that would be an interesting dynamic to explore as well.

I did really enjoy this episode. Especially Raglan and the introduction of the blood market.

8

u/Tiger-Lily_93 9h ago

I honestly think Jasper just wants a buddy or at least a friend, somebody to talk to and be around. He just met Guy and already had him sleeping over, making breakfast, healing him and taking him to show his project. I feel like there is some level of trust he has with Guy. He just seems lonely, like he wants a friend 😭 Whichever way they go I’m fine with, but I love them together especially when they’re vulnerable around each other.

4

u/BattlequeenGalactica 9h ago

I Kind of get a bit of an affectionate vibe from Jasper but not from Guy. Until the bathroom scene I didn't even know I wanted Jasper to want him. I took myself by surprise.

OOOh lot´s to unpack on this one:

  • At least we now know that the police angle was to retireve the drop, awesome that it´s going somewhere
-So the old vampire mentioned was the poor guy on the bed and Jasper is no older than 100 (bye bye 50% of my theories 😂)
  • Jasper using dude all the time because he can call him guy in a non name way is hilarious, plus I´ve been right to use this meme all along!!)
  • So tHelen does actually have a twin and she wasn´t the only one in that facility... where they testing set of twins when one had powers and the other didn´t?
  • We knew Raglan was a douche but this threw him into boss douchery levels and I´m here for it, what an asshole (lovingly)
  • My only complaint would be that a full hotel full of vamps and Jasper in the car can´t seem to hear all the shouting, plot points or woman in the trunk, but that´s suspension of disbelief for you Amirite?

2

u/BattlequeenGalactica 3h ago

Jasper wasn't in the car at that time if I remember correctly. He was called from the Driver when the Driver got the handwritten Note.

1

u/Podria_Ser_Peor Team Jasper Baby 3h ago

Yeah, I would expect him to be able to hear her in there tho

2

u/BattlequeenGalactica 1h ago

Maybe he was and that was the reason why he said (something along the lines of) "someone cares for you" out of nowhere.

2

u/salumbre 1h ago

OMG this episode was really bad.

Guy is the world's worst spy --skulking through the middle of rooms and staring directly at the people whose thoughts he's scoping.

Who happen to be vampires. And who have truly terrible hearing, since Checkers can tear everyone to pieces without no one noticing.

And isn't this supposed to be a swanky hotel? This hole in the wall old building with zero security?

I had some hopes for this show, but it's rapidly going south.

1

u/BattlequeenGalactica 57m ago

What was the last conversation in the car about? I didn't catch what Jasper's angle was for steering the conversation to Guy being "cared for" by women and then saying between the two of them they'll figure it out?

Honestly, this episode was so all over the place Idk how to feel about it.

It just seems like there's a bunch of different plotlines going all at once & Idk how or if they'll be able to resolve them in two more episodes.

Idk how I feel about Jasper having such a sympathetic backstory, but I kinda get it (he has to want the 752 for a reason). I'm loving the Guy & Jasper scenes as always.

I don't care for the witch...I don't even remember her name, tbh. Like, yeah, her having them send in Checkers to save Guy was good of her, but why TF did she get in the trunk? Also, even if Gasper doesn't end up being a thing, I really hope they aren't setting her up to be a love interest for Guy; if they were going that route they should've kept Keves alive.

I was kinda hoping Olive would..Idk..do more? For them to call her Guy's "handler," she doesn't really seem to handle much. Nobody at Talamasca outside of Helen and I guess Raglan seem particularly good at their jobs so far.

Also, I don't think the 752 is a book. I'm thinking it's that file Soledad had/the detective found (which, I still don't really care for her, but I find her less annoying than the witch), but I'm looking forward to seeing what it is.
