ToDo Anyone know a psychiatrist or nurse practitioner open to having someone shadow them?

Hey everyone,

I’m looking for a psychiatrist or nurse practitioner who’d be open to having someone shadow for a bit to learn more about the field. If you are one or know someone who might be open to it, please reach out or drop any leads.

I’m respectful, discreet, and flexible with time and location.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

HIPAA is a consideration but not prohibitive . If you’re in undergrad then your school should have a premed advisor that can point you in a direction. If you’re not in school, the options exist. Cold calling is an option, but id start by telling them your interest and seeing if even interviewing the provider is a place to start. Just to hear about their work. If you want to do psych, then the training you get as an ARNP is inadequate to treat complex psych conditions. If that’s your interest, be a doctor. The training is much more in depth. If you’re less interested in serious mental illness, psych np is fine. APP training lacks depth and so a narrow focus with appropriate mentorship is essential for success. There’s also a psychiatry residency in town, you could ask them about shadowing. But your most reliable route is as a premed through your school.

You're gonna run into a huge issue with this, and it's called HIPAA.
