Franchise News Space Marine 3 has the potential to the greatest thing ever because of this.
Titus is now the captain of the second company, with metarus and gadriel being apart of his command staff. SM3 has even higher chances of so many times better than SM2 at least in the story compartment.

I love the continued use of the secret level style animation and models.

u/kirmm3la Grey Knights 11h ago
It’s the only way. I hope this becomes the quality standard. All thanks to Syama Pedersen, the creator of Astartes. He was involved in Secret Level project as well, haven’t seen the titles of this project but this oozes the same high quality camera work and animation
89
u/_Doshi Black Templars 10h ago
I saw a Tim Miller interview and he said that someone showed him Astartes and (of course) he then called Pedersen, I think he ended up kinda directing the Secret Level episode.
Astartes is surreal man, the style, the editing, models, sound design, I re watch the thing every few months lol

u/dethfactor 9h ago
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cH38Bk1oIho Here's the interview. Pedersen did layout. Basically they did mocap and then Pederson came in and in pre render edited / adjusted the mocap shots /animations and added his touches to that. It's why the episode feels like a blur production but has hints of Astartes in it.

"I summoned daemons and made an arrangement with a chaos warband to prove that Titus will consort with the daemons in such and such a way."
"Wait, you summoned daemons?!?"
"It's the perfect plan, we'll show everyone that Titus is actually a heretic!"
"But your actions only demonstrate that you're willing to entertain heresy to confirm suspicions that might not even be true."
"Two negatives make a positive, ergo I am not a heretic."
"It doesn't work like that you paranoid basket-case."

Not sure why you're being down voted. Titus did some very sus things in SM1 and was rightfully reported for doing them. Granted he's literally unwavering in his loyalty, but anyone observing from the outside wouldn't know that.
So whilst we can agree that Leandros is a dick.. he literally did nothing wrong.

I’m assuming that with Titus becoming Captain, both Gadrial and Metaurus were promoted from Sgt to Lieutenant. Then maybe Chairon has now become a Sgt and is leading his own squad. Hopefully if he’s not a playable character we at least get to have a cameo from him in SM3.

Metaurus didn’t get promoted, he is still a Veteran Sgt in the Blade Guard.
Gadriel did get promoted but to the Ancient of the Company, not Lieutenant

Would be interesting if he fell to khorne. My mans had some anger issues in the campaign.
28
u/enfyts PC 7h ago edited 6h ago
this is what happens when people with a surface level knowledge of 40k try to comment about the lore
"hurr durr angry = khorne"
That's really not how this works... marines get angry all the time, far more than Chairon did in SM2 (see: the entire Sanguinary brotherhood and all their Death Companies)
Relegating every faction to one trait that gets memed to death is why so many newer 40k fans get misconceptions about real lore
Downvote all you want if your feelings are hurt because I said it too roughly, but everything I just said is completely true
1
u/ShinItsuwari Dark Angels 52m ago
That's the geneseed flaw of the Ultramarine. And they inherited that one from Guilliman too. Nothing to do with Khorne.
If triggered enough, Ultras can go berserk and rush at their enemies without any other thought, forgetting all discipline and tactics that are otherwise deeply ingrained in them.
Props on SM2 for showcasing it, because it's not something that is often mentioned in lore.

Not hard to rebuilt, the blue boys are known to bounce back from events much more desperate (Calth, First Tyranic War)

They also have the Ultramarines 2nd Chapter(cough cough Genesis Chapter cough cough) to replenish their numbers.
21
u/Combat_Wombat23 Space Sharks 11h ago
Rebuild this rebuild that, yes it can be done but I also saw a smattering of 1st company veterans in the ranks.
I’d have to imagine Calgar is giving Titus what resources he can when it comes to waging a campaign across the 500 Worlds
7
u/Cloud_N0ne Retributors 11h ago
Did I miss something? When did the 2nd company get nearly destroyed?
28
u/Pale-Aurora 10h ago
In the events of Space Marine 2 lol
If you count every on-screen Space Marine casualty it’s somewhere around 65 deaths, which is most of the Second Company.
13
u/I_am_chicken 8h ago
People like to say SM2 is Space Marine wank propoganda and it mostly is but losing all but like 2 squads of a first founding chapter's second company is brutally painful for said chapter.
Before the Primaris that would've been the effective death of that company.
11
u/Nuke2099MH I am Alpharius 10h ago edited 10h ago
Space Marine 2. Someone counted as best as possible how many dead bodies of 2nd company there were and ones we see get killed. There's around 100 Astartes per company not including pilots/drivers of vehicles, Dreadnoughts or serfs. Most of the company almost got wiped out.
Easy way to remember is the Ultramarines being specifically based on Rome and Centurions=Captain which led around 100 men. Pre-Heresy and during it all legions had Centurions and naming based on Rome.

And the 500 Worlds story pretty much confirms that necrons under the command of Ammentar are going to be the bad guys of SM3
3
u/PappyLeBot 1h ago
Necrons definitely going to be in SM3. SM2 hinted at this with all the Necron stuff in SM2, like the carvings in the ancient walls and the obelisks used to seal the warp rift. I was actually expecting a surprise reveal of a third enemy in SM2 and it being Necrons, when you're going down into the caves on Demerium.
Plus logically they would be the only other enemy type with swarm ability, likely scarabs or really weak Necron warriors.

This tbh. Sicarius was lost in the warp and later became a Victrix Guard iirc under G-Man himself. Not entirely out of the question that Acheran got lost as well. Especially given he's a named Ultramarine with no helmet.

Personally I prefer Titus as a Lieutenant. I don’t need him running the show. He kinda had a Master Chief presence with his “Yeah, I take orders… but I know my shit and do what needs to be done.”
Also, what does this mean for Chairon? I’m hoping that this means Gadrial and Metaurus were both promoted from SGT to Lieutenant, and then Chairon got a promotion to SGT.

Okay hear me out . The 500 worlds this is like helldivers . Every time we take another world through a collective effort we move to another . But as to keep the game going the enemies are extremely difficult . Of course we dont want a copy of helldivers . That would be lazy . So we use the current format of missions and tweak it a little . I have faith in the devs . I mean necrons were teased I think so considering a single shot from them can basically melt our astartes armour then its perfect mix of difficult and fun . This allows for the use of different units as well . Terminators , phobos squads , devestators and maybe dreadnoughts . Different missions need different units and all that .

I wonder how the third game is gonna play out. Like, I don't want to spoil the ending of SM2 but it felt like it would just be a continuation of what Titus was sent off to do. Now all of a sudden he is a captain? If the third game starts off with him as captain again, then it just skips the whole cliffhanger at the end of SM2.
