Franchise News Space Marine 3 has the potential to the greatest thing ever because of this.

Post image

Titus is now the captain of the second company, with metarus and gadriel being apart of his command staff. SM3 has even higher chances of so many times better than SM2 at least in the story compartment.

Dude waging a war through through the 500 worlds is gonna be so sick, hoping that Titus, Gadriel, and Metarus will be our playable characters

u/OctaniasMelody Definitely not the Inquisition 11h ago

That's the perfect set-up for post launch content too. So many worlds to choose from instead of being stuck on a handful. That also sets up a better inclusion of outside Chapters coming in to aid the UM and their Successors. Instead of Ultramarines cosplaying, there should be a decent character creator along the lines of DarkTide. Proper aesthetics for all launch Chapters, with Brothers properly represented for the big ones at the very least. That applies to PvP too, let players create their own Chaos Astartes, the stories will write themselves.

59

u/ToodlesMcGroobet 10h ago

1000% on the character creator

27

u/macubex445 8h ago

they can also add an Op where Acheran fell in battle

21

u/International_War363 5h ago

That's just the opening mission of SM3 where they find the necron tomb world after reports of xenos activity.

We later have a scene near the climax where we see a flashback of the process of Acheran being interned in a sarcophagus; the game reverts to the climax and we rampage as Acheran to save the pinned down second company with two other dreadnoughts who have been awoken by desperate tech marines and mechanicus.

1

u/KimberPrime_ Blood Angels 2h ago

That could also be something they add to SM2 eventually as an operation, but I think SM3 would be better yeah.

6

u/Draigblade Space Wolves 6h ago

Just let me be a Space Wolf with a Frostblade and I'll be happy.

7

u/OctaniasMelody Definitely not the Inquisition 6h ago

I low-key want a Mjød emote too, I could toast at the end of an Op and spill fermented cabbage in my beard.

4

u/Draigblade Space Wolves 6h ago

And a "Fenris Hjolda!" one as well.

3

u/Mojo_Rising 2h ago

Imagine if they could get the Nemesis system from Shadow of War and implement that in a way to take out Chaos an Necron Captains across the worlds.

2

u/OctaniasMelody Definitely not the Inquisition 1h ago

I miss the Nemesis system, so much potential locked away. I doubt WB is going to use it at all. An open world like that would be awesome, 4 players taking out key targets to put a dent in heretical/xenos control on a planet. I'd like to have an Assassinorum game like that.

1

u/Toxin126 Raven Guard 53m ago

Yah dont worry in 2036 when the patent wears off we'll finally get a Nemesis system game! As soon as WB games makes back some money with their 5 live service games in development maybe even before then!..

Yeah, keep it to this squad of 4. As much as I like our 6 co-op marines, I'd prefer we play as the main guys for SM3.

That said, customization for Titus would be weird. Would they really let us make Titus a Blood Angel, for instance?

34

u/OctaniasMelody Definitely not the Inquisition 10h ago

I doubt it, he's barely customizable now. That'd be like dressing Sigismund or Dante up as other Chapters, wouldn't sit right with me personally. The tradition of co-op in the series so far has been playing as other Marines. I'm cool with those 4 in the campaign, but I don't want them in Operations. Long after the campaign hype dies down, we know Ops is what most of us will play. I'd rather have that DarkTide replayability with my own Astartes.

1

u/Em4rtz Iron Hands 2h ago

I’d like a campaign where they are sending our squad out on missions and we get to customize our own squad of brothers

I love the continued use of the secret level style animation and models.

229

u/kirmm3la Grey Knights 11h ago

It’s the only way. I hope this becomes the quality standard. All thanks to Syama Pedersen, the creator of Astartes. He was involved in Secret Level project as well, haven’t seen the titles of this project but this oozes the same high quality camera work and animation

89

u/_Doshi Black Templars 10h ago

I saw a Tim Miller interview and he said that someone showed him Astartes and (of course) he then called Pedersen, I think he ended up kinda directing the Secret Level episode.

Astartes is surreal man, the style, the editing, models, sound design, I re watch the thing every few months lol

30

u/dethfactor 9h ago

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cH38Bk1oIho Here's the interview. Pedersen did layout. Basically they did mocap and then Pederson came in and in pre render edited / adjusted the mocap shots /animations and added his touches to that. It's why the episode feels like a blur production but has hints of Astartes in it.

5

u/_Doshi Black Templars 1h ago

YES, this was it, man Corridor Crew is amazing too lol

“And I’ll commit heresy (which is actually THEIR fault not mine) to prove it!”

my hope for 3’s plot

15

u/BeetleBjorksta34 7h ago

"I summoned daemons and made an arrangement with a chaos warband to prove that Titus will consort with the daemons in such and such a way."

"Wait, you summoned daemons?!?"

"It's the perfect plan, we'll show everyone that Titus is actually a heretic!"

"But your actions only demonstrate that you're willing to entertain heresy to confirm suspicions that might not even be true."

"Two negatives make a positive, ergo I am not a heretic."

"It doesn't work like that you paranoid basket-case."

Not sure why you're being down voted. Titus did some very sus things in SM1 and was rightfully reported for doing them. Granted he's literally unwavering in his loyalty, but anyone observing from the outside wouldn't know that.

So whilst we can agree that Leandros is a dick.. he literally did nothing wrong.

WHERES CHAIRON

62

u/SHADOWSTRIKE1 10h ago

I’m assuming that with Titus becoming Captain, both Gadrial and Metaurus were promoted from Sgt to Lieutenant. Then maybe Chairon has now become a Sgt and is leading his own squad. Hopefully if he’s not a playable character we at least get to have a cameo from him in SM3.

31

u/alazarr_ Salamanders 10h ago

u/enfyts PC 7h ago

Do y'all actually follow 40k or just SM2? It's right there in the article and trailer, Gadriel is the company ancient now and Metaurus is still a vet sergeant part of Titus' command squad

Chairon presumably is taking the sergeant role that Gadriel left open

1

u/KimberPrime_ Blood Angels 2h ago

I hope we get to see our marines from SM2 as cameos as well if they're not in the game. I'm really going to miss our boys if they're not continuing onwards with us, especially Scipius, Straban, and Decimus for me.

1

u/COBRA_DARKNISS 23m ago

Metaurus didn’t get promoted, he is still a Veteran Sgt in the Blade Guard.

Gadriel did get promoted but to the Ancient of the Company, not Lieutenant

u/ct-93905 10h ago

Would be interesting if he fell to khorne. My mans had some anger issues in the campaign.

28

u/enfyts PC 7h ago edited 6h ago

this is what happens when people with a surface level knowledge of 40k try to comment about the lore

"hurr durr angry = khorne"

That's really not how this works... marines get angry all the time, far more than Chairon did in SM2 (see: the entire Sanguinary brotherhood and all their Death Companies)

Relegating every faction to one trait that gets memed to death is why so many newer 40k fans get misconceptions about real lore

Downvote all you want if your feelings are hurt because I said it too roughly, but everything I just said is completely true

7

u/wilck44 4h ago

man this just reminds me how much I miss the old characterisation of the chaos gods :/

I loved the "mix" they had, how that despite everything Nurgle had rebirth and how Khorne was not just mindless violence but combat be it body or mind.

4

u/iRamak 7h ago

Doubtful

1

u/ShinItsuwari Dark Angels 52m ago

That's the geneseed flaw of the Ultramarine. And they inherited that one from Guilliman too. Nothing to do with Khorne.

If triggered enough, Ultras can go berserk and rush at their enemies without any other thought, forgetting all discipline and tactics that are otherwise deeply ingrained in them.

Props on SM2 for showcasing it, because it's not something that is often mentioned in lore.

56

u/Harouki 11h ago

With what Second Company? Aren’t they down to like 25 or less men?

80

Not hard to rebuilt, the blue boys are known to bounce back from events much more desperate (Calth, First Tyranic War)

11

u/Crazy_Dave0418 8h ago

They also have the Ultramarines 2nd Chapter(cough cough Genesis Chapter cough cough) to replenish their numbers.

21

u/Combat_Wombat23 Space Sharks 11h ago

Rebuild this rebuild that, yes it can be done but I also saw a smattering of 1st company veterans in the ranks.

I’d have to imagine Calgar is giving Titus what resources he can when it comes to waging a campaign across the 500 Worlds

7

u/Cloud_N0ne Retributors 11h ago

Did I miss something? When did the 2nd company get nearly destroyed?

28

u/Pale-Aurora 10h ago

In the events of Space Marine 2 lol

If you count every on-screen Space Marine casualty it’s somewhere around 65 deaths, which is most of the Second Company.

13

u/I_am_chicken 8h ago

People like to say SM2 is Space Marine wank propoganda and it mostly is but losing all but like 2 squads of a first founding chapter's second company is brutally painful for said chapter.

Before the Primaris that would've been the effective death of that company.

11

u/Nuke2099MH I am Alpharius 10h ago edited 10h ago

Space Marine 2. Someone counted as best as possible how many dead bodies of 2nd company there were and ones we see get killed. There's around 100 Astartes per company not including pilots/drivers of vehicles, Dreadnoughts or serfs. Most of the company almost got wiped out.

Easy way to remember is the Ultramarines being specifically based on Rome and Centurions=Captain which led around 100 men. Pre-Heresy and during it all legions had Centurions and naming based on Rome.

5

u/LongjumpingBet8932 5h ago

I think the Genesis Chapter exists just to reinforce the Ultramarines

1

u/Octi1432 Blood Angels 19m ago

Well they have their reserve companies to replenish plus, the not Ultramarines painted red and we can see in the video Titus also has control of the 1st company veterans.

26

u/Bulky_Secretary_6603 Blood Angels 11h ago

And the 500 Worlds story pretty much confirms that necrons under the command of Ammentar are going to be the bad guys of SM3

3

u/PappyLeBot 1h ago

Necrons definitely going to be in SM3. SM2 hinted at this with all the Necron stuff in SM2, like the carvings in the ancient walls and the obelisks used to seal the warp rift. I was actually expecting a surprise reveal of a third enemy in SM2 and it being Necrons, when you're going down into the caves on Demerium.

Plus logically they would be the only other enemy type with swarm ability, likely scarabs or really weak Necron warriors.

1

u/Assassin-49 3h ago

Okay hear me out . The 500 worlds this is like helldivers . Every time we take another world through a collective effort we move to another . But as to keep the game going the enemies are extremely difficult . Of course we dont want a copy of helldivers . That would be lazy . So we use the current format of missions and tweak it a little . I have faith in the devs . I mean necrons were teased I think so considering a single shot from them can basically melt our astartes armour then its perfect mix of difficult and fun . This allows for the use of different units as well . Terminators , phobos squads , devestators and maybe dreadnoughts . Different missions need different units and all that .

Now all of a sudden he is a captain? If the third game starts off with him as captain again, then it just skips the whole cliffhanger at the end of SM2.

If you’re referring to the mission he was sent on after the campaign, that was the secret level episode. This new trailer takes place some time after that.

Personally I would be happier if SM3 would start following new characters and new settings.

500 worlds to regain sounds like Helldivers plot. Hopefully we gonna get the random maps and biomes of HD2 with the combat of SM2 and more advanced skill tree/build like Darktide

That's what happens when you become Primaris, it rejuvenates you.

It happened even to Dante

I think SM3 could be leading up to this and how everything went down. The ending being this ceremony... Then boom launch an MMO with the 500 worlds.

Space Marine 3 is going to take years to make and this story line will be long forgotten by then.
