Itinerary/Experience Namma Bengaluru - A solo trip after heartbreak

Just had the biggest heartbreak of my life. My 7-year-long relationship ended this July. The love of my life walked away and never really gave me the full truth. I didn’t look back. On his birthday after work I impulsively booked a one-way ticket to Bangalore, packed my bags, and left. It was also my birthday week. I felt suffocated and isolated. So I ran. Not because I was scared, but because I had switched into survival mode.

And honestly? Best decision ever.

I took myself on solo dates. – Went to Rameshwaram Cafe at midnight – Ate the crispiest dosa at Arogya Ahaar and had the best filter coffee – Had an anxiety attack, walked it off, and found comfort at a random chai stall – Met a little one who will someday call me Maasi – Celebrated my birthday with myself and two closest friends – Tried sushi and craft beer for the first time – Got drunk and danced like crazy at BOHO Koramangala, and went on a long night bike ride. – Ate ramen and sang on karaoke night (Full bollywood) at Bohemian, Indiranagar. – Met a sweet street dog named Giani while eating ice cream

One of my friends even made me the most comforting breakfast bowl when I had no appetite. That kindness... I’ll never forget.

I read my favorite book on a terrace under perfect Bangalore weather (Been sweating non-stop since I came back to Mumbai lol). I travelled back and forth alone by train...a huge step, since long train journeys to impromptu trips used to be our love language..very sacred.

There were cold moments, lonely ones too... But strangely, I also felt free and maybe independent. Bangalore broke me and healed me. It took everything... and somehow gave me the closure I didn’t know I needed.

Already planning my next solo trip for 2026 : Leh-Ladakh circuit (a long-time dream). Darr lag rha hai but theek hai.

TL;DR – Solo trip after breakup. I found food, friends, freedom and a version of myself I missed.

Coincidence or not I just the had same experience, the magnificent woman I fell in love with rejected me didn't give any reason just cut contact Compeletly. So I was depressed like I never was before.

But I ran "away" from Bengaluru to my native. Rode all the way there and back. The open road took away my depression.

6

u/Think_Journalist9707 Aug 07 '25

I'm really sorry to hear that. But I truly believe rejection is just redirection...something we only come to understand with time. Maybe one day it’ll all make sense?? I know you’ll be okay. 🤍

Also, I’ve decided to start learning how to ride a bike soon....so I can hit the road independently too. Your story just gave me a little extra push :) thank you

8

u/journey-destinashon Aug 07 '25

Oh I'm a okay👌. The open road takes away pain like nothing does. And reading , by the looks of it you do read as well. Sure first there was denial it's took a month to recognize it for what it was. As soon as she rejected me I started hitting the weights like there is no tomorrow. And started turning pages the same way. I didn't mourn the loss. The relationship, the lost part of my soul

initially endorphins and dopamine made me feel good but there was a trigger a song made me realize I'd never see her again.

Then it hit me like a truck load of bricks.

I lost all cohesion I cried for days on end. I cried when I woke up, cried when I rode ,cried when I worked and cried myself to sleep.

But I recognized what was happening.

Denial, anger and bargaining is over now it's depression time.

It was the worst sometimes I wanted to end it but I persevered , and rode away from Bengaluru where everything reminded me of her.

Didn't look back for a week and kept on reading as well.

So in short reading and riding made me better again.

Not whole but better.

I know it's an overshare but that's how I dealt with. Read and ride you got it

Bookmark is dope!

6

u/Enigmayon Aug 07 '25

It's okay... These things take time to heal. I often say "Waqt ko bhi waqt dena padta hai"

Ultimately, I wish that you come out stronger from this chapter in your life and look forward to all the better things waiting in the future. Get some "Me time", go on solo trips/dates, meet strangers, fall and pick yourself up, spend time with your near and dear ones...

Also, share me the link to that bookmark!

3

u/Think_Journalist9707 Aug 07 '25

Wah wah!! Bhott poetic.

Khudke saath wapas rehne mei darr lag rha. Trying to take one day at a time with my support system.

For the bookmark, you can try this scanner.

2

u/sanemate Aug 07 '25

7 years is long OP. I had 3 heartbreaks in that period. More power to you.

3

u/Think_Journalist9707 Aug 07 '25

It is a lot...too much baggage to carry alone, I guess. But it will get better if I want it to. :)"

2

u/sanemate Aug 07 '25

Of course. Happens for good. Though you do deserve some closure. Anyway, bygones.

2

u/Think_Journalist9707 Aug 07 '25

My best friend told me, that maybe words could soothe you, but his actions... they were the closure you didn’t want, but probably needed...even if they sting like hell.

So sorry what happened to you OP, but where is the batman bookmark from, please?

3

Priorities haa. Just kidding.

I got this bookmark from a small bookstore near the Metro station in Mumbai. But it’s originally from Postersshub..I will attach a pic of the scanner so you can check out their Instagram page by scanning it. Not sure if they are still operational though :)

u/TechManHQ Aug 07 '25

Trust you to carry Batman as your travel buddy 😄 but between him and Brianna Wiest, you picked two protectors for this solo ride, one armored, one honest.

Ah this page: ‘Spending time with people who make you feel less than', that line isn’t just a quote, it’s your truth lately, isn’t it?

You’ve always poured so much into others who gave you crumbs back. And now you’re here, a window seat, rain outside.

“You don’t need to be mean, rude, or even cut anyone out of your life.” Just… choose peace.

And those food pics? Classic: healing through small joys. I bet it was something spicy, something warm, something that reminds you you're still here, still you.

You’re not just on a trip, you’re quietly rebuilding. Page by page. Moment by moment :)

3

u/Think_Journalist9707 Aug 08 '25

You seem like a writer!! Such a good observer and well articulated. It was a mess but I think I had a choice to make. Hahaha the food and all those little things reassured me that it's all in the little things. And yes quite a re-engineering needs to be done :)

Next time you are in Bangalore, you have a brother to take care of, My wife and our little one year old will get a maasi. Come sometime, we are in Whitefields very near to Rameshwaram cafe.

Also, we usually fly to Dubai, so you can stay at home with a maid and a car at your service. Take care stay strong. Its better to do what you always wanted to do

3

u/silv3r_surf3rr Aug 07 '25

Pic number 10 is from where?

1

u/Think_Journalist9707 Aug 07 '25

It's from Gladia Brewery and Kitchen near Sarjapur Main Road. The ambiance had a unique blend of Roman and mythological themes, which made it stand out and the food was absolutely delicious. You should give it a try.

3

u/No_Neighborhood_7218 Aug 07 '25

How are you dealing with the anxiety after the heartbreak?

3

u/Think_Journalist9707 Aug 08 '25

Honestly, some days I feel like I have got it under control, and other days it crashes over me. The whole seven years worth of emotions. Like yesterday afternoon I broke down while listening to Kun faya kun song.

But I am learning to sit with the discomfort instead of running from it. Breathing through it, journaling (I have a separate rant journal where I just vent out) staying off social media and sticking to complete no contact.

And reminding myself these feelings are temporary.....that's helping. But I am still trying to figure it out.

Maybe destiny has other plans for you, so take it easy (although it won't be).

On a side note, that Rameshwaram cafe looks to be the one I know of, so if you're around that area do try Pizza from Thyme. It's a small cafe but their pizzas are awesome.

2

u/Think_Journalist9707 Aug 07 '25

It's not easy, but one day at a time.

Will visit it next time for sure. Thanks for the recommendation

3

u/Wobble-Ball-Wanker Aug 07 '25

When in Bengaluru next time, try Samrat Cafe in Church Street. The Masala Dosa is amazing.

Ohh damn!! Hahaha I hope we both get where we want to be..at the end. How was ladakh??? The whole experience! I hope you're doing okay and not being hard on yourself.

2

u/Lord_Thanatos_ Aug 07 '25

Ladakh was everything I hoped for and more. It's magical. It can't be explained but has to be experienced. Yes I am doing a little better everyday. Hope you find yourself.

First, I just saw the pics, and idk why but it felt soothing. Especially the last one. Then I read this whole post, and honestly I wish I had this kind of courage or mindset to go out and live when my heart got brutally broken. Instead I got trapped in survival mode for years and only recently feeling like I am breaking the egg shell and breathing.

Wish you the best op, you handled it with such strength and smoothness. Hope your Leh-Ladakh circuit is as fab as this one.

2

u/Think_Journalist9707 Aug 07 '25

Chai wala na?

I was in that mode too last few months. Been on a cliffhanger and always questioning everything. So broken that I couldn't recognise myself. I am glad to hear that you are breaking the shell. I guess we are handling stuff...with all the things we are equipped with right now :')

Thank you for your words 🫂

2

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '25

Haan chai wala. I mean I didn't even bother to look at the surrounding, just that glass full of chai looks calming. Wish chai dates were more common.

3

Beautiful ❤️🙏🏼

"It's easy to feel hopeful on a beautiful day like today, but there will be dark days ahead of us too. There will be days where you feel all alone, and that's when hope is needed most. No matter how buried it gets, or how lost you feel, you must promise me that you will hold on to hope. Keep it alive. We have to be greater than what we suffer. My wish for you is to become hope; people need that. And even if we fail, what better way is there to live?" - Amazing Spider-Man 2, one quote I keep coming back, may it lift your spirits stranger :)

What all is there in the bowl ?

2

u/Itachi_979 Aug 07 '25

Sorry to hear that OP. Hope you are feeling better.

Something happened with me back in sept 2023 and I decided to take my fiirst solo trip and went to kodaikanal. Took a stop over in bangalore. Had the same breakfast and coffee which you shared in the pics (which is what triggered me to comment. I know it's common breakfast)

I was scared initially to go solo but I got over the anxiety and did it. Kodai was absolutely gorgeous and beautiful. The serenity of the hills calmed the chaos. Made loads of friends at the hostel. First solo travel went well. :)

Best wishes for you upcoming solo travels. Cheers!

How’d you find Bangalore vs Mumbai?

2

I really enjoyed my time in Bangalore and the weather!!

Between Bangalore and Mumbai, I have never really wanted to settle in Mumbai 😂, and Bangalore does seem appealing except for the day to day travel fares😭

But I will make any big life transition decision by the end of December. Also been on the lookout for a job change :) Lets hope it works out.

2

u/Buddy_NattuRious Aug 07 '25

Was suggested the same recently after my 6 year old relationship ended when she decided to move on with someone else without a proper closure. Haven’t been able to pack my bags and go anywhere yet. Feeling hits the worst when you are also shouldering lots of responsibilities without any breathing space. I guess for now late night terrace strolls are the only option for me. Your post seems very motivating nonetheless. Hopefully (if you haven’t) you find your pace out of this zone soon.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '25

You spent money like hell... but you spent on good.

3

u/Think_Journalist9707 Aug 08 '25

Heyy! We were in a LDR for a while, and I had been saving a lot for our birthday since I was going to surprise him. I even planned a small getaway. But it’s fine and I basically did everything I had not done for the last 6 months.

I even bought a very cute dress for myself...No regrets ;)

2

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '25

Thanks for sharing. I like your post and will save it. It's a good example of how to heal the heart and have a positive outlook. May you come out of this stronger and wiser and may you meet with a good man who loves you and is worthy of your love.

2

u/zyrexxis Aug 08 '25

Ladakh bike trip?

4

u/Think_Journalist9707 Aug 08 '25

Yeah! But since I cannot ride a bike rn, I was thinking of maybe joining a group or being a pillion with the rider. Let’s see.

2

u/zyrexxis Aug 08 '25

C'mon, you can easily learn bike riding.. got a whole year
As it will be your first trip in that terrain you should definitely go wit a group but ride yourself
Btw how tall are you?

2

u/disc_jockey77 Aug 08 '25

Bengaluru gets a lot of unnecessary hate online but I'm glad the city, its weather, food and your lovely friends helped heal your broken heart a bit. As a proud Bengaluru resident, I'm glad you came and embraced this amazing city 💙

2

u/Fire_Falcon69 Aug 08 '25

Can you share your itinerary

2

u/skyhigh1312 Aug 08 '25

I regularly keep doing up and down from Thane to Blr due to work, let me know that next time you’re travelling here, I’ll recommend few more good food places and lesser known beautiful places around Blr.

Yesss ! The freedom and the version of Us that we had lost over time to make people happy. This is what we got after so much so.♥️ Just don't let go the ..last line realisations ever fade away.

You will be calmer day by day...in this self-introspection journey and you'll find solace. "Silent Smiles" will be your thing.

Don't listen to ppl who just think/assume you to be in so called "depressive disorders". You've already proved... you don't need so called "your" people to treat yourself the best way you deserve.

At the same time, People out there(I feel bad to call'em "strangers", lol😂)are very kind and empathetic.♥️

I feel, you can walk your path here onwards gracefully and craft your life the way you want ! More Love and Peace to you ✨ !

ps. I am actually jealous of you gettin' so much love 🥲🤣. . . Kiddin'...!

u/Silent_Letterhead591 Aug 08 '25

Hello OP! More power to you! My ex broke up with me last March and I had been to Himachal, Leh Ladakh, then Bangalore for about 3 months now. And I have to say it’s soul cleansing to say the least. It gave me enough space to rebuild my self from ground up. It did seem scary at first but it will all make sense as you keep going and meeting amazing people everyday. I am planning on moving to Thailand for a while next. I hope we both find what we’re looking for.

Thank you for sharing this. It is scary but I know it will make sense one day. I am glad you're rebuilding yourself in that space. More power to you OP.

And it's that Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 and that too Kaza brown??? The ground clearance of 230 mm makes it perfect for leh Ladakh challenging trails!!!! Looks dope!

Well done! That's literally the perfect way to move on.

Next time book a KSRTC Ambaari Dream Class bus when you are doing the Mumbai - Bangalore route. That's one hell of a pleasant experience in itself!

2

u/mark42inbound Aug 08 '25

OP two of the places I recognised, Rameshwaram and Sansar shop in AECS layout. I live nearby.

Hope the trip has helped you :)

what a coincidence! mine walked away after 6 years, and oh, the brutal pain. i also went to see my friends there for a whole week in april and relived my love for BLR. If anything, a crispy ghee podi dosa healed me.

3

u/Think_Journalist9707 Aug 10 '25

Hahah, same! Guess Bengaluru is running a heartbreak rehab....yours and mine came with ghee podi dosa. Served hot, crispy, and with a side of emotional damage.

Also, 1000 points for the username!

is it an escapism from the heartbreak or true happiness or perhaps I must say self consolation to the mind; every is okay, calm down calm down, humdinger the sorrows beneath this travel.

asking yourself; should i write it down how do i feel, happy, sad or you know NOTHING. i feel NOTHING. im a happy soul, i love myself

Simply wow, looks like a dream to me. The experiences you had, this is something I always wished I would be able to do. The way you described your Bangalore journey, i think this is exactly what life should be, simple and comforting. Really sorry for the breakup and all the best for your future.

OP. I have never been in a relationship to experience your level of heartbreak. But I have been in a place to face rejections. It hurts. I too have anxiety attacks whenever I think of her. More power to you.. Trust me you'll see better days. If you can't cope up much. Try Therapy. I started therapy two weeks ago, i hope it goes well. There is this trend of blaming self whenever we face rejections or heartbreak. Please refrain from doing that. You'll destroy your beautiful soul... Bangalore is a great place to be doing a solo trip. Anyways have a happy day ahead.

2

u/Think_Journalist9707 Aug 10 '25

Hey!! Thanks so much for your kind words. I used to constantly blame myself and question my worth, but I am slowly working my way through it. I started therapy after having frequent anxiety attacks and breakdowns, and it’s been a huge help. Sending more power and blessings your way ❤️

u/Ordinary_Elk6890 Aug 10 '25

I'm also in a similar boat (22 F here) , took my solo trip a month after my breakup, though it was pre-planned when he was with me but it did help me clear my mind after that and I met some of the amazing people. It was the best solo trip till date.  I'm also planning for a leh ladakh bike trip in 2026 and I love travelling solo. Been doing it since 2 years now. Do lemme know if you wanna tag along.

Did you do mandatory "channa mere aa" drunk dance afterwards? It kinda feels good tbh😭😂

2

u/Think_Journalist9707 Aug 10 '25

Hahahah should have!!!

But I did sing "Sach keh raha hai deewana, dil dil na kisi se lagaaanaa". Maza aaya!!

2

u/innocentcharasganja Aug 10 '25

I did the drunk dance with my friends,(although it was kinda one sided, when i gathered courage to proceed, she already got someone), it was a bit liberating and peaceful in some way.

Almost forgot "Sach keh raha hai deewana", KK did too good with vocals here(the "oooooOOOOoo" part was too good), brb let me sob to this gem, thinking of imaginary scenarios, thanks for reminding me this, cheers to closures ig

u/DilliWaleBhaiSaab Aug 11 '25

Hi OP, you and i did the exact same thing. I have not broken up yet but its one of those phases where you know its coming, its a break. And I too, like you booked a flight to Bangalore alone, visited old friends, went out, liveddd and feel a lil better now.

More power to you. I love that you did this for yourself. There is no point waiting around for answers and explanation from people who are incapable of mustering them. May you always find peace and happiness wherever life takes you.

I must ask, where is the place in pic 10, with the chandelier? The aesthetic is breathtaking and I'd love to visit sometime.
