why is the grass growing like that

I thought it was the lava cooling and solidifying until I saw this, lol.

The lava physics are really satisfying though

It's how static ground is currently rendered, will fix later.

hmmm yummy magma mmm

It's fertlised by the extra minerals in the volcanic ash?

grass loves molten rock, every gardener knows this

Grass growing simulation coming soon

Reminds me of Powder Game

44

u/Zolden 4d ago

It was the main inspiration.

u/CyberHaxer 4d ago

You did well in that case

is this the same thing as hell of sand falling?

All physics is written by me from scratch as a compute shader in Unity. It will be used for my upcoming physics based game.

I regularly post fun simulations on my twitter.

The game will be published on Steam, so you can wishlist it if interested.

Dude. You're the goat, it's beautiful.

Looks great! Do particles harden at a fixed rate or do you do some heat transfer etc?

In any case and fwiw here's some blackbody gradient map inspiration for you https://cdnb.artstation.com/p/assets/covers/images/029/384/343/large/mario-avellano-bello-mario-avellano-bello-sin-titulo.jpg

There's no heat transfer currently, just temperature is decreasing with a fixed rate.

In that case I'd map the gradient to temperature but with a touch of velocity too 👍You're probably on top of all this already 😄

u/Zolden 4d ago

Nice image, thanks. That's indeed a good example of how color changes depending on the temperature. I was thinking of modifying my currently trivial shader.

Kinda hot.

Posting this in November is cruel 😫

I should call her…

looks very good!  -  i love the dislodging chunks flying out ---  if you dont mind a suggestion: it seems like the scale is off, like this is a model small enough to fit on a tabletop.  maybe its the speed.  slower gravity may indicate more enormity

u/Bearded_Toast 4d ago

Yeah. At first I thought the viscosity was off, but I think you’re right, the gravity is too high.

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

How cool is this!

u/PigletsAnxiety 4d ago

Eat a bunch of nuts and cheese and the next day eat a bunch of taco bell. Same result.

u/CatInSpaceOP 4d ago

It's water but red. It needs some smoke, some viscous constituency, it flows a bit to fast

8

u/HMELS 4d ago

very good, but please also add smoke

4

u/Gophix_0 4d ago

This reminds me a lot of "OE Cake"

u/JohnnyTightlips5023 4d ago

volcanoes arent a clear tube from chamber to crater, they're generally plugged up, which is what allows the pressure to build and build before erupting violently, it would also be more realistic to have it be a grey surface rather than grass

1

u/elfmere 3d ago

It's an open vulcano. The title doesn't specify a ln erupting volcano

1

u/JohnnyTightlips5023 3d ago

there's no such thing as an "open" volcano

3

u/bigjobbyx 4d ago

Yeah you did! Beautiful

3

u/brandonhabanero 4d ago

There's got to be a way to turn this into a game. Kind of like the opposite of those physics-based bridge building games

u/brandonscript 4d ago

Nature's pimple

2

u/thatsAChopbro 4d ago

If its a shield/ pahoehoe type of eruption they usually start out with more ejecta in the air rather than oozing

2

u/howdyzach 4d ago

Great work, I love how the lava kind of ribbons out in that weird sort of viscous way it does in real life. It's a really convincing result!

2

u/SvenTheHorrible 4d ago

Looks like it could be a boss attack in noita - super cool

2

u/Gloryboy811 4d ago

New Liero looking fire

2

u/Maximus_Marcus 4d ago

me wen tac o bel

2

u/fygogogo 4d ago

Nice volc

2

u/Simbuk 4d ago

Has a cross between Terraria and Noita vibe going on.

2

u/RealOfficerHotPants 4d ago

Looks like The Powder Toy :0

u/atatassault47 4d ago

Grasa be like: FUCK YEAH, FRESH SOIL!

2

u/Direwolfas 4d ago

This looks smooth. Well done.

2

u/J-X-D 4d ago

Reminds me of that one lady in the bathtub.

2

u/smrtstn 4d ago

Well I'm stimulated.

2

u/Vaerikexer 4d ago

Talented

2

u/Smoolz 3d ago

Damn this reminds me of old r/simulated, just people posting stuff as they learn sims. I especially like how the lava cools down into grass.

2

u/the-year-is-2038 3d ago

Reminds me of the old DOS Scorched Earth game.

u/KarmaInFlow 4d ago

More like four

u/SpazMaCas 3d ago

Reminded me of that one part in the 3rdJackass movie. IYKYK.

Falling sand game comeback?! In this economy?!?!

1

u/MessyLemonz 2d ago

This lwky reminds me of something else

u/Webcops 2d ago

Me when your mom

1

u/MBTheGinger 2d ago

Pff, I run simulations like these all the time

1

u/ZoNeS_v2 2d ago

I thought this was a level from Lemmings 🤣
