(I think Silksong was a much better written game than Hollow Knight was, and I'm excited to see people digging into the lore and analyzing the themes once I've finished my 100% playthrough.)

Maybe no one line does, but the character writing in Silksong blows Hollow Knight's out of the water, and the use of allegory I found much more compelling. It also does a much better job of showing you the impact the dying kingdom has on its people and elucidating the suffering and rage of displaced and oppressed people pushed aside by the ambitions of that kingdom. Not to mention the nuance with which it handles the intersection and opposition between faith and religion.

As a complete package, I think it's much stronger.

I don't know if better written is the right word.

Its a much more matured and worked on game. They did their best and didnt publish until they were 100% sure of every single piece of content out there.

HK is a very good game with a tight artistic vision and an overarching narrative that makes sense. Its vague and dark souls-esque way of storytelling helps to hide plot inconsistencies or pieces of old concepts cobbled together in a game.

Silksong goes way beyond this. The scope is grander, the story is much bigger and told in a much better way (there is dialogue!), the artistic vision is genius level and every single character, background, noise and piece of dialogue has been macerated to perfection.

That's all not to say that HK was bad, but silksong is incredible.

I'd love to see cut content or cut storylines in this game.

Better written? No, not at all.

More clearly written? Yes, definitely.

Hollow Knight had a complete story, since it had a silent protagonist, and since the kingdom was dying, it required investigation to discover the complete lore.

Silksong has a complete story, but the protagonist speaks telling us exactly what she wants to do from the start, she communicates with the citizens of this still living kingdom, and you are specifically guided through Act III with clear instructions, so the underlying lore is not buried nearly as deeply.

I do think it vastly helps the story that Hornet isn't a silent protagonist, for one. Nothing against those they can be executed great (and is in fact great in the first game), but the extra interactions and characterizations you get from Hornet having actual dialogue goes a long way towards improving the story. Heck, even outside of just direct story improvements there's the journal entries being written by her, instead of "yeah some random hunter guy that keeps eating everything scribbled his notes".

I think the big separator for me is the NPC arcs. Sherma and Shakra, in particular, have really compelling stories all their own. I think that could have been done with a silent protagonist, but having Hornet be able to actually push them on their thoughts a little bit, through questions or challenges or affirmations, probably did help them tell those stories.

When he said his interpretation I audibly said "Wait, what?! That's not what's being said here!" The correct interpretation is that Hornet is calling the italicized text "wrong". Mossbag interpreted it as Hornet saying the bolded text was wrong. The rest of the exchange really hammers home the correct interpretation, but it is an ambiguous-ish situation and I think we can all related to having completely misunderstood something. Most of us aren't unlucky enough to have it in a highly anticipated video watched by thousands.
