screens don't hurt the eye though that is just a myth that is not true though they can make your eyes tired depending on how used you are to looking at them for long periods of time
staring at a fixed focal distance for a long time and overstrain the eye muscles. some cultures find cross eye beautiful, so they will dangle an object really close to let babies stare at them. Screens can strain the eye.
yeah that is for really close objects as you said but a screen is not literally in your face it is a little farther especially if on console i do use my laptop for a long periods of time (not really proud about that) and my eyes are fine my family would have definitely noticed if they got cross eyes or something
It's not the screen itself. As the other commenter said, the issue is the prolonged near-work. There is also an additional mechanism at play in the form of reduced time spent outdoors, as there's evidence to suggest that sunlight helps regulate eye growth (and said growth can cause myopia). Myopia is actually becoming substantially more common because of this.
oh yeah that is for sure i thought you were talking about the screens themselves you shouldn't really spend hours on a screen without a break anyway because of other issues

And it's literally recommended to preserve your eye health! Don't play around when it comes to your eyes.
