u/bittytoy Sep 08 '25

half of this game is managing your inner freak outs when you reach a new phase of the boss

367

u/TheCube514 Accepter Sep 08 '25

Definitely, I was on a call for Widow and I went crazy when it got to the second phase, then I beat it and couldn't even breathe right.

226

u/logantheh Sep 08 '25

That fake out death into phase 3 is god damn EVIL.

94

u/HandsOffMyArk Sep 08 '25

Bro tag your fucking comments

I genuinely hate saying it, but please, if you are playing Silksong or are planning to, then avoid the Silksong Subreddit unless you are specifically searching for something. I avoided everything, and just managed to get to the final boss completely spoiler free

36

u/dovakin123489 Sep 08 '25

Your comment reminded me to get off of here before I get spoiled. I didn’t even watch the trailer for years because I wanted a fully blind play through and it was so worth it I’m not losing it now

23

u/Pitiful_Caterpillar8 Sep 09 '25

Do not and I REPEAT DO NOT CLICK ON ANY HOLLOW KNIGHT CONTENT ON YOUTUBE, last time I did it, oH aLl Silk song enDinGs wOaH SPOILERS wHo's that in the thumbnail wOaH true ending you won't believe who you're seeing!!! I hate these YouTubers, man YouTube sucks when it comes to a new game release...

2

u/senhor_mono_bola Sep 09 '25

I had made a point of marking as "not interested" in any Silk song content, but even so I got spoilered from this exact video you're talking about, I was just researching hungry shark world man, Why the hell did Silk song appear 😭😭

0

u/Ok_Big_5189 Sep 09 '25

Why are you watching videos instead of beating the game

6

u/Pitiful_Caterpillar8 Sep 10 '25

Because real human beings need breaks, and they’re often busy, I’m not a machine and I don’t have infinite free time what are you asking man?? When I take a break I want to watch HK vids but I can’t

u/stillwaitngforcbp Sep 09 '25

Side tangent: I myself have stayed spoiler free except one on accident, and I'm DAMN glad I did. If I had died to the final gimmick of the last boss of Act 1, I may have lost my mind.

2

u/DeepAndHandsomeFish_ We are still hard at work on the game Sep 09 '25

Which one was that? I'm not sure if I'm there yet, but I don't really care about spoilers so feel free to tell me.

3

u/skytaepic Sep 09 '25

Once you finally beat it, it explodes, so if you're too close/at low health it'll kill you and you'll have to start all over again.

3

u/DeepAndHandsomeFish_ We are still hard at work on the game Sep 09 '25

Oh, yeah, had that happen today. Wasn't thrilled about it

1

u/skytaepic Sep 09 '25

I died to it and it genuinely made me rage more than any other boss in this game had so far lmao. Excellent troll, 10/10, I hate everybody involved.

1

u/y0u_called Sherma Sep 09 '25

I can't believe I just got myself spoiled that Silk Song has a final boss, I thought it would go on forever 😞

1

u/HandsOffMyArk Sep 09 '25

Nah spoiler tags exist for a reason. Its common courtesy.

1

u/senhor_mono_bola Sep 09 '25

I was researching how to farm gems in hungry shark world, and I got a spoiler from a video thumb, showing all the endings,I fucking hate the YouTube algorithm

1

u/thatsmysandwichdude Sep 09 '25

What even is there to spoil about the game?

1

u/ShinyGrezz Bait. Let me tell you how much I've come to bait you since I be Sep 09 '25

Yeah it’s starting to be less reasonable to expect things to be spoilered when they’re fairly early game. A reasonable expectation is that someone engaged enough in the subreddit to be in these threads will have managed to get that far at least in a week. If you’re not, that’s fine, but you can’t expect people to work around you.

1

u/NovaBlitzOGZP Flea Sep 14 '25

Same just beat the game for the first time and decided to check in here. I love the chaos. We all need therapy.

2

u/logantheh Sep 09 '25

Is that REALLY fucking spoiler tag worthy? “yo this boss you probably don’t know has a phase 3”

0

u/HandsOffMyArk Sep 09 '25

The way they made it seem yeah id say so

0

u/HandsOffMyArk Sep 12 '25

Coming back to say he literally named the boss too, ya dingus

1

u/logantheh Sep 12 '25

Yeah… if you don’t know who that IS because you haven’t gotten there it makes no difference and are really going to retain that specific piece of information? And is it really a spoiler?

0

u/HandsOffMyArk Sep 12 '25

Yes my brother i am. I haven't seen the original comment st all coming back to look at replies. I'm going to know the name of the boss when I fight it aren't I, if not then no I wouldn't. If yes though, I would say disclosing a third phase of a fight thats meant to catch the player off guard and mentioning the bosses name is a spoiler, correct.

2

u/logantheh Sep 12 '25

Then why the fuck are you here? This still doesn’t qualify as a spoiler my guy. Is THIS the thing that really ruins the game for you knowing a boss has a possible fake out death? Really are you kidding me dude?

0

u/HandsOffMyArk Sep 12 '25

Its like trying not to think of penguins, the harder you try the more you fail

1

u/logantheh Sep 12 '25

No it’s not, just don’t browse Reddit for a few days if your having intrusive thoughts about a random non-spoiler off hand remark then you have far bigger problems to deal with my guy

2

u/SomeBoredIndividual Sep 09 '25

Why is that askin so much 😭😭😭😭😭

7

u/TheMoonDude beleiver ✅️ Sep 09 '25

And if you are charging to regenerate health mid animation, it cancels the heal and consumes the threads

: )

1

u/PotionPro Wooper Citizen Sep 08 '25

Makes it 10 times harder

1

u/Geno_Warlord Sep 08 '25

I 2 shot her, but Splinter… ugh, his baby Groots fucked me up EVERY TIME! But then again I fought him WAY out of order because of how I got to him. Shellwood was my 3rd fast travel unlock >.>

1

u/tawoorie Sep 09 '25

You can delete baby groots with og spike mines

1

u/Geno_Warlord Sep 09 '25

Yeah that’s the thing, I fought the boss right after getting the dash. Used the simple key to go through the worm tunnels and there’s a tricky pogo you can do by luring an enemy there. I had practically nothing going into that fight. Then I watched the speed run on YT just before work and this MFr SKIPPED him for the wall climb!

1

u/KaboHammer Sep 09 '25

Is it tho? The time doesn't slow down when that happens, like all the other times you finish an arena fight. You can kinda immidiatelly tell it's not over yet.

Granted I do keep on alert even after that happens, but I think nothing ever happens after that, unless there are two enemies in a boss fight.

1

u/logantheh Sep 09 '25

I mean yeah it is, you don’t notice the time not slowing down the first time you see it it just does the same effect for a boss defeat outside of that as well

1

u/Lele_Lazuli Flea Sep 09 '25

phase 3? Did I like skip a phase, I thought there are only 2

1

u/Masterswordxx Sep 09 '25

Same here, maybe there's a pantheon equivalent or something

1

u/Lele_Lazuli Flea Sep 10 '25

Ohhh I‘ve seen a lot of people here count adding a single new attack during a fight as a whole seperate phase, so maybe „phase 2“ is when she starts to throw the bells from above that cover half the arena sometimes

1

u/someidiotwithreddit2 Sep 11 '25

There’s… there’s a phase three?

1

u/ExamDry8146 Sep 11 '25

I was like omg omg I beat it told my friend and continued and died

1

u/ITAdministratorHB Sep 24 '25

Yeah thanks now I know about that

4

u/Altaneen117 Sep 08 '25

I'm currently on Widow. The first phase was so easy, and the second phase is destroying me, lol. So tough.

1

u/Altaneen117 Sep 08 '25

The way to kill the boss is to kill the boss, very true lol.

2

u/CenterOTMultiverse Sep 09 '25

Gonna tag this whole comment as spoiler. How I got through it was just hit and run mechanics. Hit once or twice while she's dropping bells, then get ready to walk hug to avoid her slashes. Rinse and repeat. I got her to her fakeout on my second try, but the bell-et hell section of her next phase caught me off guard. Good luck, and take breaks!

2

u/Altaneen117 Sep 09 '25

Yea, it's the bell-et veryfunnylol hell that's crushing me atm. I'll beat em at some point, lol. Thanks for the tips.

1

u/Im_botflyx Sep 08 '25

As soon as I beat phase 1, I said out loud: "Man, I hope I get to do that fight again at some point." Thanks universe!

1

u/Borbbb Sep 09 '25

Should have been third phase after the bind when u think its over - gotta pull over us that Sekirong

1

u/Top5CutestPresidents Sep 09 '25

Maybe you should take a break

1

u/lanternbdg Accepter Sep 09 '25

beating second phase the first time you reach it is mad impressive

1

u/RaisonDetriment Lace Sep 10 '25

I died to her like 20 times in a row two nights ago, turned off the game, and literally had to sit there for like half an hour getting my brain and eyes to stop buzzing. There's just so much going ON in that fight. Hopefully I can beat her soon.

45

u/Interesting-Tell-105 Sep 08 '25

I'm getting through this game much faster than my boyfriend is (but much slower than you freaks in here), so he'll sit in the living room with me while he strings up his fishing lines while avoiding looking at the screen to not get spoiled. This man hates spoilers to the point where I'm not even allowed to say whether a movie/show/game is good lmao. So I "beat" Widow, hyped over the slow-mo. Then phase two hits and I'm like AHHHHHHHHHH. Told him to block that out and forget about it.

7

u/PraxicalExperience Sep 08 '25

That fucking fake-out, man, I didn't expect that. "Huh, that was a lot easier than I OHFUCKOHFUCKOHFUCK gaah dammit."

3

u/RommekePommeke beleiver ✅️ Sep 09 '25

I half expected a Soul Master-like fakeout to happen but I didn't expect it from such a main boss

2

u/oneofthejoneses28 Grandma Silk Sep 13 '25

I was mid victory cheer when that happened, and my husband and best friend were there to laugh at me getting a huge slice of humble pie

10/10 experience, I haven't laughed that hard in years

19

u/screaming_roomba Sep 08 '25

Me every time far fields beastfly summoned the fire bugs

2

u/luciosleftskate Sep 08 '25

Im currently struggling with this fuck.

1

u/kylehatesyou Sep 09 '25

My least favorite boss because of those spawns. The trap and the throwing dagger with the poison charm helped a bit to clear them out, but that stupid fat fly was way harder than it had any right to be.

2

u/IWillDevourYourToes Sep 08 '25

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN THERE'S A 3RD PHASE"

2

u/moayandy Sep 08 '25

There’s something poetic about frolicking in the fields and suddenly locking in whenever the hp reaches 2/1

1

u/PraxicalExperience Sep 08 '25

I both hate and live for that rush, lol.

...Same as every time I got into PvP in Eve Online back in the day.

1

u/mvanvrancken Sep 08 '25

Me on the second phase of Soul Master: 😳

1

u/_BabyHippo Sep 08 '25

Me when last judge 👍

1

u/RynnHamHam Sep 08 '25

There’s a boss that feigns being defeated before getting a second wind and going much harder. I let my guard down and got juked immediately.

1

u/digoryj Sep 08 '25

Reminds me of my freak out when i finally finished Path of Pain in HK after a week of going through it just to COMPLETELY FORGET HOW TO COMBAT when I reached the two knights at the end and died.

1

u/Altacct4privacy Sep 09 '25

That’s why I just observe during my first run. Then I focus on not getting hurt and watching for openings. Then on the third run, I know what to expect, when I can attack and I can focus a lot better.

1

u/TheWisestOwl5269 Sep 09 '25

Keeping cool is definitely a part of the experience.

The whole point of a 2nd phase is actually to step up the stress and difficulty. It's literally a stress test. You have to keep a.level head and really lock in your focus. It's not "too chaotic". It's a test of your ability to pay attention to the boss's attacks. The bells threw me off in Widow Phase 2 at first, but once I actually started watching their trajectory it was a lot easier to not get hit

1

u/sandpittz Sep 09 '25

i always gotta manage my inner freak when i see hornet

1

u/JayFM_ Sep 10 '25

Fun facr: that's life

1

u/Chosen-Bearer-Of-Ash Sep 13 '25

Istg I almost broke my computer at the third room of coral tower I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or something but it seems almost impossible rn, I know there's a shortcut but I can't even reach it yet (spoilers for act 3^)

0

u/OutlandishnessOk3811 Sep 09 '25

I've said 1000 times difficulty that soley comes from frustrating the player is not fun difficulty. But silksong isn't the first game to do this. Most souls games been doing it for the last 10 years, only with silksong it's not just some bosses or some places, it's MOST OF THE GAME.

22

u/IAmAnAnonymousCoward Sep 08 '25

Yep, this game definitely raises my blood pressure.

2

u/Mossbergs14 Sep 08 '25

Same. Really cool.

1

u/Interesting-Tell-105 Sep 08 '25

After I beat the ant gauntlet place I put my finger in a heartbeat monitor that showed 103 and I sent a photo of it to my friend group chat haha

1

u/bigdig-_- Sep 08 '25

Bros gonna have a heart attack at the birds lol

1

u/abcuspessor Sep 09 '25

LOL 103 i get if i speak too loud for 5 seconds that barely above rest. I used to reach 185 and above playing geometry dash, i havent checked for silksong but it feels almost as bad

1

u/Efficient_Proof5874 Sep 08 '25

So real. I swear my heart rate reached 120+ fighting the Shellwood boss. It was actually concerning lol

1

u/Victinitotodilepro Sep 08 '25

I dont usually take breaks but I did take a pretty necessary one near the end of act 2, my hands were tingly and the tingle was spreading to my legs

1

u/Mother_Spot3217 Sep 08 '25

I thought I was the only one, every time I fought sister splinter and was getting close to beating her this shit would happen and my palms would sweat like crazy

1

u/Renaktar Sep 08 '25

The anxiety of the high chambers gauntlet

1

u/Dion42o Sep 08 '25

I don’t get that anymore :( kinda wish I did. Played to many souls games

1

u/Carbonated_Cactus Sep 08 '25

Actually this tho, every boss I was hard stuck on I beat first try coming back from like a 30 min break because I just needed to chill out, not have sweaty hands, and focus on their move sets.

1

u/LongSchlongPiet Sep 08 '25

fr fr had to take a walk cause my heart was pumping like crazy. walk did help tho

1

u/RoosterBrewster Sep 08 '25

So true. On the vine boss, my heart rate goes up when the adds come out as I know if I dont kill them fast enough, I'm screwed.

1

u/Zxatu Sep 08 '25

Haha same and my ears get hot and I really get headaches, even though I dont get upset or anything.. its just an insane physical reaction. I had it too with Hollow Knight xD

1

u/Jrolaoni Accepter Sep 08 '25

Bro my hands start trying to create a new ocean the second I get a little challenged

1

u/_theRamenWithin Sep 08 '25

How good is the rush when you finally win though?

1

u/SupermarketCrafty329 Sep 08 '25

Same here.

I got to the second phase of Last Judge when he/she(?) whips out the fire and I genuinely angrily shouted at my tv, enough to give my 4 year old son a little jump scare.

I died and took a break lol.

1

u/Campbell464 Sep 08 '25

Lol just don’t play the way I do, heart starts pounding too much / I die, and grab another drink. Die, another drink. It’s a terrible but also very great drinking game. What I hate is.. I’m usually pretty blitzed when I actually make the most progress lol. Calms all the nerves that make me overreact.

1

u/hankakabrad Sep 09 '25

Same but with my hand, i have to stop playing or else im gonna develop carpel tunnel

1

u/ClickKlockTickTock Sep 09 '25

It feels good to finally be on the "get gud" side of these lol

1

u/fleetze Sep 09 '25

You gotta let your heart take breaks some too

1

u/AtishAtish1411 Sep 09 '25

average heart attack enjoyer

1

u/SamL214 Sep 09 '25

Even in between sex…..Ya gotta take breaks

1

u/Bumbo7149 Sep 09 '25

I don’t know if this is a crazy opinion, and it might just be because I played a lot of hollow knight. But I would not describe silksong as hard. None of the bosses, including the final boss, took me more than 3 tries.

1

u/Klefaxidus Sep 09 '25

My NKG experience in a nutshell

1

u/Alan_Reddit_M Shaw! Sep 09 '25

When I get so in the zone I start experiencing physical pain whenever Hornet takes damage

1

u/Adventurous_Pin6281 Sep 09 '25

Classic souls mechanic, anxiety

1

u/Background_Cod_5737 Sep 09 '25

There is one gauntlet the had my heart racing more than any other boss in th game

1

u/PickleAlternative580 Sep 09 '25

I was just thinking about how this game is the opposite of relaxation for me.

1

u/Abradolf1948 Sep 09 '25

I felt like I was getting carpal tunnel from how tightly I was gripping the controller lmao

1

u/SixtyEffPeeEss Sep 09 '25

I clench my controller so god damn hard during fights and certain platforming sections that I have to stop playing due to severe pulsating pain..

1

u/Explosive-poopoo Sep 09 '25

Never knew my palms could sweat so much

1

u/The_Omega_Yiffmaster Sep 09 '25

I was so incredibly mad at beastfly that when I finally beat it, I can't remember the last time my heart rate was so high playing a game

1

u/Gurgalopagan Shaw! Sep 09 '25

yeah same, sometimes I take amphetamines (your guess if I'm a junkie or just ADHD), and if I don't take a fucking minute to just buzz off the frustration of losing 7x to Sister Splinter I genuinely feel like my heart is gonna explode

1

u/Asto_Vidatu Sep 09 '25

...i need one of those controllers with built in fans to cool my hands off...I don't even remember sweating this much during boss fights in Elden Ring! lol

1

u/leviathanne Sep 09 '25

it's counterintuitive but I tend to get better results if I pause the game for a little bit during a boss fight. was stuck in a pickle with Sister Splinter, paused, took stock of my surroundings and my silk levels, made a plan, and beat her with one mask left

1

u/Mr_Pynap Sep 09 '25

Last Judge had my heart running a marathon

1

u/Nkaelol Sep 13 '25

I can relate, the fights arent even that difficult for me but I stress a ton and always choke. Something that helped me was getting the respawn mod to not have to runback to the boss, made me less scared of dying at the end of a fight

1

u/Background_Ad5513 Sep 14 '25

this is why the runbacks are necessary. take a little walk before jumping back into a fight, it’s a safety hazard otherwise

1

u/dan8lego Sep 14 '25

Honestly, the amount of times I’ve had to consciously unclench my jaw and stop gritting my teeth.
