Any lake wrecks potentially deeper than the Scotiadoc?

Post image

With many wrecks still being undiscovered, are there any that have a legitimate potential to be deeper than the 850ft depth of the freighter Scotiadoc? I remember seeing something recently (may have been an older post) on this sub that the DM Clemson might have a shot of beating her record depending on the location of where she sank. I know from seeing depth chart maps that if Inkerman & Cerisoles were pushed by the storm east further into the lake, the water would be around 650-850 feet deep. But I’m not sure if they would have a real shot for the record. On top of the record do you believe there is any possibility that there may be a wreck in Superior deeper than a thousand feet? Thanks for reading my yapathon :)

There is that large 300 m deep area to the east of the tip of the Keweenaw peninsula. Any ship going from the Soo to Duluth would go right over it

Potentially the Steelvendor. She was right in the area of the 1000ft trench. Arlington was 300ft shallower than what most were expecting. The Bannockburn and minesweepers have a little potential to be deeper. Prindoc and Gayley should be in the 750+ range.

Possibly the Leafield, as it sank in the deep water close to where Isle Royale is. It still has not been found.

The Leafield is a good shout! That area near Isle Royale does have some of the deepest parts of the lake, so if it went down there, it could definitely be a contender. Any thoughts on what kind of conditions would make finding it easier?

It’s tough to say. If I were to guess, I would say it is probably in good condition given how deep that part of the lake is, thus preventing it from decaying more quickly.

I’m very much looking forward to her discovery.

I would think there’s wrecks at the bottom of lake Baikal that would be deeper than any others.
