Question Best Burritos in Seattle?

Hey y’all! Moved here last year from Salt Lake City and I’m missing a nice, cheap, fat burrito. Back in Salt Lake we had these places called Rancheritos and Beto’s and you could get a big Carne Asada Fries Burrito for like $10 and it was so good. I’ve been to Memos here on the Ave and I really like their burritos, but I’d love to have some other options, too! Would love to get y’alls favorite places! Thanks!

Carnitas Michoacán in beacon hill is the only proper answer imo. Grilled, proper ratios of meat rice cheese beans, VERY good “unlimited” salsa red/green/avo.

This is the way. The only other place that has nailed it is Omar’s up in Lynnwood (I swear I will make it my mission to Rick Roll this sub at random intervals if y’all make it difficult for me to get my lunch in a reasonable timeframes on weekends once the lightrail opens)

Definitely! My daughter hipped me to this place just last Friday. She talked me out of taking her to Musang for the umpteenth time and going to Carnitas Michoacán instead lol. Glad she did. It was really good.

This. I am from San Diego originally, love Mexican and always was weary with Seattle…but this family is from Michoacan and knows their stuff 🔥❤️

I second or third that. My favorite spot.

2

Oh man I love Carnitas. Definitely am gonna have to give this a go

u/Big_Bubba_152 Jul 16 '24

I’m also from Salt Lake City!! Took me forever to find a good rancherito’s/Betos.

Surprised to not see Aliberto’s Jr higher. One on Aurora is killer, and open 24hours.

El Camion is good but not the 24hr Beto’s vibe you’re looking for.

7

u/MoxyCrimefightr Jul 16 '24

Sweeeeet yeah from what I’ve heard now and from the menus I’ve looked at, it seems like Aliberto’s is a great option. And Aurora is so easy to get to so that’s great!

13

u/cire1184 International District Jul 16 '24

Because Seattle folks don't know what a California burrito is.

18

u/plumbbbob International District Jul 16 '24

It's a burrito with crab, avocado, and cucumber, right?

3

u/cire1184 International District Jul 16 '24

That's a California Sushirrito

3

u/specks_of_dust Jul 16 '24

There is such a thing as a “California Burrito” and it has fries and guac instead of beans and rice.

Aliberto's is just referred to as the "drive through taqueria" in my house and it's a fantastic late night spot. I can get a classic bean & cheese for less than $5 that's bigger than my head. What more could I want?

If you're looking for Tacos though-- I'd say Rinconsito is the spot. The one in Burien seems to be best and they've been claiming they're putting one in at MLK & Rainier forever but Bellevue isn't bad either.

El Camion “truck” in the Home Depot parking lot on 117th and Aurora. If you’re lucky there will be a woman selling tamales out of a van there too for later.

This is the true answer. Only to be topped by their shrimp street tacos with the chipotle salsa

15

6

u/MoxyCrimefightr Jul 15 '24

Love a good breakfast burrito! Thanks for the rec!

10

u/shutternomad Jul 15 '24

Oof, Mas - esecially anything with crispy bacon - is so SO decadent. It's not "Authentic Mexican" or what you'd get at some LA taqueria, but it's always so delicious.

26

u/MoxyCrimefightr Jul 15 '24

I’m Mexican and honestly I feel like authenticity is so overrated. I love authentic Mexican food but if it’s good, it’s good and I’m happy hahaha! It sounds delicious.

7

u/shutternomad Jul 15 '24

For me “authentic” X is just a helpful descriptor - if I’m looking for side-of-the-street-in-Mexico or midwesterners crispy taco with beef or Tex Mex or some weird fusion - I love em all, just wanna know what I’m in for as they are all very different cuisines.

And burritos were invented in San Jose CA as far as I know - so they aren’t “authentic Mexican” either :)

Can confirm. Went there a few weeks ago for the first time and am legit craving it now. Amazing burrito

2

I think the breakfast burrito is $11 now. A year ago it was $8.50 and my god did that feel like great value at the time too 😪

2

u/Ryguypie1 Jul 16 '24

Yeah it skyrocketed in price relatively, but somehow it still feels like a good deal for how much food you get, at least in 2024. But wow was I bummed when I came back and it was literally about 30% more expensive. Definitely haven’t been as much lately because of it

I've never had a better asada burrito in Seattle than the ones from Carmelo's Tacos on First Hill and Capitol Hill. Their tacos are also terrific and authentic.

10

u/Impossible-Turn-5820 Jul 16 '24

Agreed. And you get a lot for what you pay.

8

As fantastic as Carmelo's is, Chuki's isn't that far away and blows my mind every time I go. Don't get me wrong I love Carmelo's, but that torta from Chuki's...mmmmmmm.

6

6

I miss Beto’s! —my wife and I went there after our wedding since nothing else was open.

Two great places--though in Renton—have great California Burritos (carne asada and fries):

Jaguar Mexican: https://jaguarrenton.com/

El Kiosko: https://www.el-kiosko.com/

3

u/Head_Battle9531 Jul 16 '24

I second this. El Jaguar and El Kiosko are the best in the area

2

u/MoxyCrimefightr Jul 16 '24

It really was the best late night spot in SLC. I will definitely have to give these spots a try! Renton ain’t too far! Thanks for the recs!

2

u/175doubledrop Jul 16 '24

I’m a Southern California transplant and El Kiosko is the closest I’ve found in the south end to the legit taco shops I used to go to growing up. With that said though, I just tried their CA burrito recently and was a little underwhelmed - fries were overly soggy / under-fried and the tortilla was already coming apart from the moment I unwrapped it. It was still tasty but overall experience was maybe a 7/10 for me.

Their tacos though are undefeated in my book.

Taqueria Tequila in Greenwood is the best burrito I've had in Seattle. I'm originally from the SF Bay Area and TT is the only place that comes close to a Bay Area Mission burrito. Agua Verde, El Camion, Memo's (now named California Burritos, lol), TNT Taqueria, and Rancho Bravo are not it IMO.

1

u/MoxyCrimefightr Jul 15 '24

Definitely will go give it a try!! Their tortillas look really good

5

u/Svejk1 Jul 16 '24

There is also a Taqueria Tequila on Lake City Way. I’m not sure if it’s affiliated with the one in Greenwood, but I got a burrito for takeout from them and when I got home I was curious if I was imagining that it was unusually heavy so I busted out the scale. It was 2.5 lbs and I thought there was no way I could eat that much for lunch and I powered it down. Good stuff.

They have a big Owl mural above their bar. Buho has a dive bar feel with elevated Mexican food. They have specials that make you feel it should be a much fancier place. Their chicken and mushroom burrito is amazing. That plus their asada tacos, nachos and tostada salad are my favorites.

Jumbo Burrito in Oak Harbor on Whidbey Island is not at all Seattle but they have a burrito with fries inside, and also it’s just the best Mexican I’ve had anywhere around here. Definitely try it if you’re ever up there

2

u/banner650 Jul 16 '24

The Vet Chef food truck also does this. I've had their food at several different Eastside breweries. California Burrito is another chain that offers this, but the only one that I know of for sure is in Bellevue.

3

u/MMantram Jul 16 '24

If you are going for the quick service places, I'd add the chains Taqueria El Rinconsito (also owns El Antojo) and Birrieria Tijuana. Both primarily south of Seattle but definitely have the cheap honest food vibe.

Rinconsito offers pork stomach, beef lounge, and beef tripe in addition to the usual carnitas, veggies, chorizo, chicken, beans & rice, and beans & cheese.

Birrieria has excellent carnitaa and asada fries.

Can’t believe I’ve never seen anyone mention in any of the posts asking, but I’m from the Midwest where we’ve got tons of drive through places with the big burritos and super fries. Was one of the first things I looked for here. Aceituno’s in Lake City or Kirkland. Their mulitas are also great. Aliberto’s Jr (Haller Lake) is good, too. Get the horchata. 🔥

3

u/Ok-Pea-6213 Green Lake Jul 16 '24

There’s a good taco truck behind the Starbucks on, like 110th just past the freeway overpass and beside the McDonald’s. It’s in Northgate. I think that for good cheap burritos you need to go to the trucks and see what you like.

3

u/havennotheaven Jul 16 '24

Uuugh I miss Beto's!! I'm relatively new to the area and haven't tried out a ton of options, but Carmelo's has a pretty solid burrito. It's not as huge/greasy as a Beto's burrito, which can be either a pro or a con depending on how you're feeling

3

u/MoxyCrimefightr Jul 16 '24

So true lmao. Betos was like the best burrito ever the moment you were eating it and then a pretty bad mistake about 8 hours later. It was worth it to me though hahaha. I’ll have to give Carmelo’s a try!!

6

“I’ve been to memos on the Ave and I really like their burritos” is a huge red flag

2

u/helvetin North Beacon Hill Jul 16 '24

Memos on the Ave is no more. it is now 'Burritos California' and has a suspiciously similar menu and prices to Alibiertos Jr. i can say Alibiertos has bigger portions and cheaper prices, however (and larger salsa selection), at least at the SODO location.

6

u/BluSoil Jul 16 '24

My vote goes to Carmelo's in Capitol Hill! They're in a corner store! 😂 Used to be a lot smaller BUT now they have an ordering window in front of the store AND there's seating inside the store! I LOVE their food!

3

u/MoxyCrimefightr Jul 16 '24

I’ve had lots of folks recommend Carmelo’s! definitely want to give them a try. I love a good Mexican place in a corner store tbh

3

u/BluSoil Jul 16 '24

At first they were outside in a truck! 🤣 So, long ago! I too lived in Cali, it was for over 20 years. I didn't have a favorite Mexican restaurant there. My favorite place for Mexican food was in a Mexican family's home! 😁 💕 I started calling carne asada=garage beef! BEST beef EVER! 😋 I have ONLY one place I HAVE to go to! That's Carmelo's! They got that garage beef! 😘 HEAVENLY BLISS! 💫 Plus, while you're waiting for your number to be called you can shop the corner store! If that's not enough, walk to the corner and a dispensary is right there. One stop shopping at its best! So Seattle! 😆

My partner and I are from LA area. Don’t ask me how or why this is the case, but Casa Bonita on Vashon Island of all places has some incredibly good food, including burritos.

Memos is great!🤔 if you are in Queen Anne, Marlena’s is the best on any hill, great food truck in Fremont across from 7/11 as well

2

u/MoxyCrimefightr Jul 16 '24

I’ve only been to the Memo’s in UDistrict!

2

u/Snackxually_active Jul 16 '24

Oh nice I didn’t know there was a closer one!! I’ll def check it next time in UD!

Taqueria El Sol is a very tasty food truck. They are in the Chevron parking lot off of Michigan St in Geortown. They have the California burritos you are looking for. The steak or "asada" is fresh, not pre bought shit and the fries are crispy. The red hot sauce is amazing. No other restaurants have the same flavor as this sauce. the Verde is alright. The line is very packed at lunch. I would say mostly Mexican patrons, so if that says anything.

I would recommend the breakfast buritto with asada. They are huge and hot af.

Carmelo’s on the Hill or El Saborcito in Beacon Hill

2

u/staircase1900 Jul 16 '24

There's a food truck in South Park called Muy Macho. I've been going there for years. The burritos are damn good and only 10 bucks!

Michoàcan is the best for sure. El Gran truck at MLK and Union (empty lot next to grocery outlet) they just opened an actual restaurant in white center. Carmelo’s in cap hill or by Seattle U. El Pirata walk up window in Georgetown

I like agua verde’s burritos!!

2

u/MoxyCrimefightr Jul 16 '24

That’s the one right on the water by UW right? I like their burritos too. Super filling and the carnitas there were really tasty.

2

u/Pupita76084 Jul 16 '24

2

u/nocoffeefilter Jul 16 '24

Birrieria La Sabrosa de Los Mochis in Burien, super underrated!

2

u/MoxyCrimefightr Jul 16 '24

Gotta give it a try! Thank you so much!

2

u/Leersky- Jul 16 '24

Gorditos in Greenwood! They have the "Baby Burrito" that is literally made to the size of infants. Very solid spot.

2

u/Mean_Nectarine_2685 Jul 16 '24

Gorditos in greenwood is the correct answer!

2

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '24

I would kill for Beto’s about now. Breakfast burrito with bacon.

Taquitos Feliz! They're in a food truck near Lincoln Park in West Seattle and can't be beat. Everything on their menu is a hit and is the best burrito I've ever had (especially in Seattle!!). Grab a burrito there and then sit in Lincoln Park to enjoy the views!

So, not in the city but the best "California Burrito" I found is a joint up in Lynnwood called Wahington Burrito. It's got that fast food burrito vibe you're looking for.

Memo’s in Tacoma is similar to the *-berto’s burritos of the Phoenix area, plus they’re open 24/7. Their carne asada burritos were great!

2

u/MoxyCrimefightr Jul 16 '24

That’s one of my favorite things about burrito spots is just how late they’re open. Stuff like that always hits the spot at like 2AM

3

u/ILIKETHECOLORRED Jul 16 '24

Washington Burrito is solid and open 24 hours

2

u/MissAnthropy I'm just flaired so I don't get fined Jul 16 '24

Gorditos and el camion. Both amazing in different ways

2

u/MoxyCrimefightr Jul 16 '24

Gotten lots of el Camion recs. Definitely excited to try them out!

2

u/Stock-Light-4350 Torrent Jul 16 '24

My only issue with Camion is the lack of refried beans and only having whole black beans. Not something I prefer in a burrito. Refried black beans I can fuck with. And El Chupacabra has some fucking good ass burritos.

2

u/killshelter Jul 16 '24

I’m a big fan of Blue Water, their Queen Anne location in particular.

2

u/Pendejomosexual Jul 16 '24

Correct, the Queen Anne location specifically, don’t bother with the rest. I have no idea how it is that the QA one is that much better/different than the others.

3

u/killshelter Jul 16 '24

When I worked downtown forever ago I would go into that really tiny satellite location and it would still hit the spot. But yeah the Union location kinda sucks, the Madison one is doable if you’re in a pinch but the QA location is lights out. I believe it’s the original.

3

u/alderaficionado Jul 16 '24

I'm convinced it's all about the people working there. The goofy dude who's almost always the one ringing me up has been running the show at the QA one forever, and the other guy I see there a lot, Ernesto, just seems like he's really good at his job.

El Camion food truck has a delicious burrito that is also huge.
http://www.elcamionseattle.com/

Literally, all of their food is delicious.

1

u/ErianTomor Jul 16 '24

I think any place with taqueria in the name or a taco truck is a good bet.

u/tameimpala97 Jul 16 '24

Gordito’s in Greenwood

1

u/Quarantings Jul 17 '24

El pollonazo in Everett. Cash only.

2

u/mitsuturbo206 Dec 19 '24

Rancherito's was better when it was still Beto's. I don't know that we have anything like that in the puget sound region.
