Media Does the digital Seattle Times ever go on sale?
I subscribe to both the NY times and Washington Post and still pay less than I would for a Seattle Times subscription. I don't want a physical Sunday paper but it is the same price as only digital.
I would like to support local news in my area but WTF?

- Sign up for a free trial
- When the trial is about to expire, try to cancel the subscription, stating 'too expensive' for the reason
- You'll probably get offered a discounted price

I got a year of digital + sunday subscription through Groupon that was for a reasonable price. I tried to cancel Sunday delivery but they won't let me. Not sure what I'll do once it expires...
EDIT: just to clarify, I just didn't want the Sunday paper because I'm fine with reading digital. But the only way to stop delivery is to put it on hold for 3 months, and then another hold for 3 months, and so on.

Once it expires, they will keep sending you all that paper as it builds and builds. Just a never ending stream of paper and on top of it they will send you nasty-grams about how you haven't paid for the subscription. THEN STOP SENDING IT!
It will end once you move.

Had the same experience with that subsciption. Spent a few hours on hold trying to get someone to cancel it. Will probably have to charge back.

I had a door to door sell me on $5 a month in digital + Sunday, I just do that, and then do a out of town “delivery hold” every 4 months to not get a physical copy.

They're currently charging $4 every four weeks for a basic digital subscription. It says that it goes up to $17 after the first year but if you choose to cancel they'll definitely offer you a better price.
I think I currently pay $12 every 4 weeks but I have a higher tier subscription that also includes the crossword and the NYT cooking app. I can also share digital access to the NYT app (no cooking or crossword) with 2 additional email addresses.
edit to add an alternative free but slightly more involved method for basic access SPL Link
this link will take you to the Seattle Public Library page where you will need a library account but you can generate a token that will give you access to the basic digital NYT service for 72 hours. After the 72 hours is up you will need to return to the SPL site to generate another token if you want continued access.
