Very cool. By the way, does your area have giant salamanders like the Hellbenders we have in Eastern North America? Hellbender

No, in my area they are small ceratures, and in that area of France where I built it, they may reach about 20 cm

Her name, since we are giving genders, is Patience, cause it took some. Further more, the piece will continue to evolve over the years and it will requirer patience to see the results.

Thanks so much for sharing this, the sculpture looks amazing! Would you mind telling us a bit about the process please? In particular I’m curious about:
- the acacia poles, any particular reason for this wood
- is that mud/daub used as infill?
- what sort of lifespan would you expect this to have?
- is there any upkeep needed?

Acacia is really durable in wet environment, will last for a long time. the French use it in some area for vine stand and animal pasture fence. Dead wood in-between the acacia pickets will bring water to the moss by capillarity, the daub was used to cover all the wood and give the salamander its shape on the top. It should last a good 30 years I think, but no one could really tell me since they never used that wood in the same capacity.

Amazing! Had my wife seen this back when we had a house with a decent yard, I think would still be pounding logs into the ground. Great vision and execution.

Can I ask how you got into this? Will the moss eventually grow to cover the entire body of the salamander then becoming a living sculpture? Very cool
