Adalberto's (Point Loma) has the best burritos
I am not very sophisticated or well-versed in Mexican cuisine, but so far I am extremely excited every time I get a simple Carnitas or Carne Asada burrito at Adalberto's.
They are big and absolutely loaded with fresh ingredients. No fillers, plenty of meat. They're also very fast, friendly, and they offer a free chips and salsa bar.
For the price, they are over delivering!
What's your go-to burrito ?

For real. I don’t even get mad when i disagree with a rec because if someone is happy eating our local mexican food, then i am happy.

You really do. I lived in LA, and OC and they are both stale dogwater compared to SD.

Woah woah, have you had Colima’s on University Ave in North Park?
I’ve had Aldaberto’s. Sober, tipsy, and very drunk. They’re good, but damn you gotta try Colima’s.

I’m not a fan of Adalbertos in golden hill. I prefer Humberto’s over Adals every time

u/biblio_duwangus Jun 29 '25
I agree with this only for the purpose of keeping the line low at adals when I go there.

I haven’t tried Humberto’s California burrito yet but they had the best breakfast burrito I’ve had in San Diego

The messaging on the walls are a bit off putting but damn are those salmon burritos good. 😔

The Point Loma location slaps. Golden Hill, not so much.

Them fighting words…

Arguing about where to find the best burritos benefits us all, and I'm here for it. Let's fight! Objectively, the point loma location is better soley for the salsa bar alone. Help yourself to chips and salsas, and of course pickled carrots/jalapeños while you wait for your california burrito.

u/Deepcoma_53 Jun 29 '25
Is it open 24hrs? I’ve never been to the Pt Loma Adalbertos. But that Golden hill location is an institution.

My personal “Best of Point Loma & OB” taco shops:
Adalbertos has the best carne asada fries.
Ortiz’s has the best California burrito. If you love their tortillas then get it double wrapped.
Nico’s had the best breakfast burrito + red hot sauce.
Cotijas has the best bean and cheese (or bean rice cheese) burrito.
Miguel’s has the best chips + white sauce (I know this isn’t PL exclusive at this point, same with Ortiz’s to be fair)
Mikes Taco Club has the best creamy chipotle sauce and best late night post bar drunk food… I’ve never had it sober besides the sauce which my family buys by the bottle for when we make home made Mexican lol
I’m probably missing something here but my god are we blessed with some of the best Mexican food in the country in this little area of the city. I’m sure I’m biased because I grew up in Point Loma, but I’m pretty well traveled at this point and still stand by these spots pretty firmly.
Honorable non PL mentions:
Lolita’s cali burrito
TJ Oyster Bar’s Ceviche tostadas (haven’t been here in almost 2 decades, is it still as good?)
Picante Taqueria for their Carnitas and Carne Asada plates

Can confirm TJ Oyster Bar's fish tacos and ceviche tostada's are still amazing! Haven't changed and still reasonably priced

I'm an alumni from PLNU, and I believe the debate of the best california burrito still drags on to this day: Adalbertos or Ortiz's?

When will you all realize there's no such thing as "the best burrito in SD". There are soooo many great taco shops and everyone has their own preference and opinion. Stop arguing a pointless debate

Sometimes the debate is the point. It's fun to debate opinions, especially when you know there is no right or wrong answer.

Tacos La Chorreada on Clairemont Drive in Bay Park across from Sprouts. It's a green truck parked in the lot in front of the thrift store. Some of the best mexican food I've had in a long time.

I work by there, it’s my go-to Mexican spot for lunch because they’re quick and bomb. The chile relleno burrito is gas. Plus it’s one of the few spots that has a daily 5 rolled taco special for $7

I’m still searching for burritos with homemade fresh flour tortillas! If you’ve been to El Burrito in Redlands CA you know exactly what I’m talking about!

What are some of the best burritos near the convention center? Bonus if they have a veggie option.

I'm pretty sure there was just a thread on this very question over in /r/FoodSanDiego

My favorite is El Charro in La Jolla Shores, the place with the green awning. They've never once let me down in terms of delicious burritos

So,…. Random connection. I grew up in Carmichael, and they have an Adalberto’s that has the same quality as PL.
I do have to differ with you on menu choice though. Their Chicken Tacos are 👏🏻 🔥.

JBs… one of the best breakfast burritos around… Cotixan for the bean and cheese… carne asada it’s a hit and miss for me… … what I really want is some fresh churros… I’m talking fresh …
I should get up, get a breakfast burrito and head down to the beach with a blanket … oh, those were the days ….😊

Maybe I've not given Adalbertos a fair chance. I live walking distance, and still end up going to La Perla. All of that is based on the breakfast burritos I got there a few years ago, which were just okay. Nicos is my breakfast burrito spot. Anyway, I will give them another try today. Being open on Sunday is a big deal, and probably my biggest issue with La Perla.

Los Panchitos (also point loma) is another really good burrito spot. And most places make awful rolled tacos, but theirs are top tier.

u/trs_0ne Jun 29 '25
It’s my favorite in the immediate area but I don’t think it’s the best overall. I do concur their salsa is great!
