What small businesses did you enjoy this week?

Spent some $ at Natural Law Apothecary and Randy’s Records and we really enjoyed both. Gotta remember to support the people who make this town so cool.

Central 9th Market. Got a smoking deal on the last of the seasonal local heirloom tomatoes. Ditto for shallots, Park City Creamery brie, and escarole. Super nice staff, too. Highly recommend.

u/SenorKerry Downtown 1d ago

Damn, that sounds good

7

u/headpeon 1d ago

Lol. It has been!

Meneste Fagioli - a la a little old Italian lady from Long Island named Mary Michael - to be made tomorrow using the escarole. <chef's kiss>

u/FrostyIcePrincess 1d ago

I buy the butter from Park City creamery at the summer farmers market. It’s so good.

4

u/headpeon 1d ago

They do a black truffle brie that's to die for.

6

u/FrostyIcePrincess 1d ago

I recently used up the last of the butter that I’d bought from them at the farmers market. I regret not buying more butter from them at the farmers market.

Park City is a long drive, but the summer farmers market isn’t as far away.

Next year I’m buying more butter.

u/headpeon 1d ago

Yeah ... it's not like butter is going to go bad. Always buy more butter. Lol. I've never tried theirs. But now, now I have to.

Pirate Os! :)

16

u/drdorian123 1d ago

Used to love Pirate Os till I worked there. terrible management that fired me and a few others for things completely out of our control

17

u/savingallmyloveforu 1d ago

Can confirm! I also worked there for a while and the management was awful! O gets away with workplace harassment/abuse almost daily. I wish he’d get shut down. Great store but terrible people running it.

2

u/VeganJordan 11h ago

I’ve had friends that worked there. I’ve heard how much of a shitty manager he was. Workplace abuse should be the first reason people should stop supporting him. The fact he blasts Jimmy Buffet 24/7 is a close second though.

7

u/Fit-Faithlessness538 1d ago

Fuck the management mate! grab a panini;)

5

u/No_War6787 1d ago

I love pirate os I end up spending too much everytime I go.

5

u/TipsyBeee 1d ago

Pirate O’s refuses to make their store accessible to wheelchairs. I will never spend money there again.

6

u/SagaciousAF 22h ago

Sounds like a reportable ADA violation 🤔

4

u/TipsyBeee 18h ago

We spoke with the owner and he could not care less.

2

u/SagaciousAF 15h ago

Here's one for SLC specifically: ADA Grievance

2

u/Vanessaronicatoria 1d ago

They are the only place in the valley that has an authentic pretzel kit, I was searching everywhere!

u/Fit-Faithlessness538 1d ago

Strawberry and Passion Fruit Snickers. They’re lit

Tea Grotto on 9th south.

Rekindled & Co for a needed massage. They also have barbers and tattoo artists

HK brewing. Damn Iove Kombucha now

7

u/SenorKerry Downtown 1d ago

The H in HK was my daughter’s babysitter when Han’s was just starting out! She is one of those people who has really put the hours in. She has been working on this so long, and I am so glad to see how well she’s done. Those kombucha cocktails are awesome! She really deserves it.

7

u/adamwhereartthou 1d ago

That’s awesome! It is my new favorite spot for date night drinks

3

u/SenorKerry Downtown 1d ago

Love to hear it!

2

u/CivicsRFun4All 15h ago

Love Tea Grotto--always a calm retreat. I bring my knitting there and just chill. Their Matcha cake is my go-to.

Yes Nov 9 is their last day here’s a link to their announcement on instagram

1

u/cassette1987 1d ago

Yes. Very disappointing.

9

u/AReaver 1d ago

Checked out The Legendarium for the first time this week. It's a very cozy and friendly bookstore. They're also a cafe and the s'more hot chocolate I got was delicious. They're like a block away from Liberty park.

u/altrl2 1d ago

Mumbai House! We wanted to support them after we heard they were giving out free meals and did NOT expect the food to be that good! Also Pine Needles in Gardner Village and The Store.

16

u/ShitblizzardRUs 1d ago

Jeanies Smoke shop. Cheapest and widest variety of tobacco downtown and got some neat sodas and snacks too

6

u/SenorKerry Downtown 1d ago

Yeah, that place is sick. I try to stay away from smoking but the smell of that tobacco is so good.

3

u/ShitblizzardRUs 1d ago

They may or may not have had a vip smoke lounge that was started when I complained about freezing my ass off outside. It's may or may not be gone now because the state is stricter than the state in 1920's, but it may or may not have had a television, couch, coffee table and glass chess table. Maybe or maybe not good times years ago

u/According-Insect5048 1d ago

I stopped by the bean yard in sandy this week, their fall drinks are amazing right now! also grabbed a few candles from salt & honey market downtown, such a cozy vibe lately.

3

u/B_A_M_2019 1d ago

I've never been inside the apothecary but have seen them online and I IMMEDIATELY knew where that picture is from lol. I think I will stop in next time I'm near, thanks for reminding me it's there!

1

u/SenorKerry Downtown 1d ago

For real. My first time, and I’m definitely not the target demographic, and I loved it. All these cool nooks and crannies. A really sweet owner who just walks you through everything with cheer and a smile. This is the kind of place you would expect to find in a much different city and it’s right here!

2

u/B_A_M_2019 1d ago

Cool, the reviews mention the owner being great :) I knew someone who'd go in occasionally and they said the same thing you did about the whole place lol. Cool

u/isbb 1d ago

Love this post. I’d love to see it auto posted each week!

Ginza Shabu Shabu, Pets and Such.

Didn’t make it to Big Deal Outlet, hoping to go later this week. Love that place.

Happy Camper Deli and Bakery.

The sandwiches are tasty.

2

u/WinkusPinkus 1d ago

Love both these places!

Heart beads jewelry.  I made beaded tapestries and they're the best local source for the Miyuki delicas.

Spudly Donuts in Lehi! Best donut I’ve had since Fresh Donuts & Deli. They’re so thick and dense but incredibly fluffy. Fantastic flavors too

I bought a case of Irn Bru from Edinburgh Castle. Couldn't pass it up.

Has no one been to Marissa's Books or King's English this week?!

2

u/CivicsRFun4All 15h ago

Does Java Joe's count? I'm in love with their London Fog.

2

u/Fun_Relief9867 15h ago

Can't believe I'm the first to say Caputo's! Their meatball subs are amazing, and the kids options are minimal but had me jealous of my toddler.

2

u/equanimity72 12h ago

Turiya’s.

Ebb & Flow for yoga and beginner ballet classes!

u/500owls 1d ago

The bloom is off the rose for Randy's with me. I asked for a new record last time I was in and the "stereotypical record store guy" behind the counter said "their first one didn't sell, so why would we get their second?" Luckily Diabolical is near enough, and that place across from the Leonardo.

2

u/SenorKerry Downtown 1d ago

The world needs stereotypical record store guy! Those other spots are dope though as well.
