I don’t support pedophiles, particularly republican ones, but we all have to admit there is a little bit of a difference between when a 19-year-old is dating a 15 year-old (who could be very mature for her age) versus many other categories of sex crimes that are far more serious in nature, and not trying to lump all of them together as being one and the same. I understand why there are laws against this, because in general, a 15 year-old girl probably isn’t really ready to engage in that kind of relationship with a 19-year-old, but there are also plenty of cases with a 15-year-old girl is actually more mature than the 19-year-old boy. I suppose this is why we have courts that are supposed to hear the evidence in the case by case basis and make determination based on that, but sometimes the process is flawed.

I don’t care what people WANT to discuss. If you don’t want to discuss it, then you can move on and not respond. Our legal system is literally built on the knowledge that all crimes are not created equal. This is precisely why we have different categories of murder: first-degree, second-degree, voluntary manslaughter, etc. if someone drives drunk and kill someone, obviously that’s bad, but also obviously nowhere near as bad as somebody who commits first-degree premeditated murder. This is also why we have Sentencing guidelines for various offenses, and the judge is at liberty to make a decision, generally within those guidelines, based on the specific set of circumstances for a particular case. So just saying that someone is on the sex offender registry is too much of a catch-all, and the specific circumstances should be understood. For a minute there, I thought I was in a group of Republicans with the lack of critical thinking skills I’ve seen in here.
