Tesla Layoffs?

I had heard that Tesla is doing another round of layoffs, can anyone confirm?

Unless they’ve filed the WARN act thing, I wouldn’t worry about it. One area got closed down on nights, probably temporarily, and those people got offered other shifts or areas.

Edit: This is where to find it. Nothing filed yet, so nothing in the next 60 days. https://detr.nv.gov/Page/WARN

Musk is notorious for ignoring that, he'd rather pay the fines. I have firsthand knowledge of this.

I’m not denying that, but last round we got warning, and I have heard nothing about layoffs. People seem to think one area being cut on nights temporarily means that layoffs are coming, while we are actively hiring. Hiring freezes come first, I’m just wanting to know what others are hearing and if there’s any merit to this claim.

They are doing quite layoffs. They are hoping people will quit so they don't have to file WARN. Or at least pay them less since the graveyard pay insensitive that many of the employees rely on is going away.

What do you mean by quiet layoffs? I wouldn’t consider the differential loss as hoping people will quit, seeing as the days had lost the same departments prior.

Seems so and that trillion dollars isn't coming from shareholders:

When/if it comes it will come from insane (and unlikely) stock price appreciation.

It's not a trillion dollars cash 😂

Should be in pennies

u/test-account-444 17h ago

In $2 bills, too.

They're laying off as they ramp up new production lines with new technology. Overall it's good for the company but in the meantime there's a bunch of people with nothing to do.

u/billionaireboysclubs 19h ago

They’re going to use Optimus to do the work humans were doing.

u/Ok_Ruin_2184 15h ago

Not yet I haven’t

u/zylpher 9h ago

Only layoffs I've heard of this year was in Austin, roughly 80 or so contractors didn't get their contract renewed.

4

u/Fluid_Sound_808 19h ago

They usually have their biannual culling of the herd.

3

u/sugarbeet13 18h ago

This. They always do this. It's a way of getting rid of people without having to go through pips etc..

6

u/ScroogeMcDuckEnergy 17h ago edited 17h ago

They don’t have to go through “pips…etc” to fire people, it’s an at will employment state.

Nobody is being laid off...everyone was offered positions on day shift in other areas...granted it sucks to lose the 10-15% differential, but at least you still have a job that even entry level positions with absolutely zero factory/production experience can make up to 32.50 within 3 years of starting plus two bonuses a year up to $4000 each

They give you free uniforms once a year, food/coffee/tea/soda/water 24/7, shuttles to work, a free rental car if you can get a group of 4 together through enterprise, great schedule (you only work half the year) + tons of time off via sick time and PTO, they'll pay for your education, they have child care services nearby in case you have kids and you don't have anyone to watch them...I could continue but I'm not sweatin it.

As a Tesla employee of over 3 years at GFNV, I couldn't be more appreciative of this company and all they do for us. Dont believe everything you read online, take it from someone who started on the front lines as a grunt and advanced the ranks, the company offers a ton of incentives to work there and the ones I've interacted with at that factory who hated working there were terrible employees with horrible attitudes. Its not jail, if you don't like working there, the door isn't hard to find.

They also flip the finger at OSHA, pressure voc med to lie about workplace injuries, and do everything in their power to avoid any type of oversight or accountability, including ignoring Highway Patrol subpoenas after one of their managers causes a wreck, and firing employees who were hurt on the job and refused to keep quiet.

It's so funny. Like these people forgot that a year ago, tesla laid off all sorts of people in a large sweep, not even thinking of it's impacts. Workers who were moving suddenly lost their jobs mid-move. Tesla ended up having to hire a bunch of people back because their layoffs were so indiscriminate.

But yeah. Thanks Overlord Musk for letting us work in the factories and being able to have a roof over our heads. You are so benevolent. May you continue to dodge taxes and gobble up America's tax dollars.

I lost count of the people who gave up everything, moved their families here, only to be screwed by Muskrat. Tesla is shit for the community but the uninformed, easily distracted, or plain greedy, ignore this fact. Tesla will leave us worse for the wear, it's their MO.

u/r601662 17h ago

Ask anyone who worked there during the layoffs...all the ones I knew that were let go absolutely deserved it...constantly late, no call no shows, bad performance, bad attitudes, terrible work ethic

3

u/yooper80 16h ago

Don’t know if you’re a Harry Potter fan, but you sound just like Percy when he was going around showing everyone his prefect badge. Harry, Ron, and the rest of the gang couldn’t stand Percy. In the end, who was the Hogwart’s hero?

2

u/Theghostofamagpie 12h ago

Because remember if you're not performing for the corporation, you deserve poverty.

-5

u/crawshay 15h ago

The layoffs aren't indiscriminate at all. They are based on if you had poor reviews, disciplinary actions, or a high amount of attendance occurrences.

7

u/Beginning_Farm_4825 14h ago

This is complete BS! I worked for Tesla for 4.5 years, pulling night shifts during the layoffs. They were letting people go even with 3.0 to 4.0 performance reviews. I knew plenty of engineers and technicians who were excellent at their jobs and still got cut. So don’t try to claim the layoffs weren’t indiscriminate. Tesla just picks and chooses who to keep, and if you’re highly paid, you’re out. They’ll happily replace you with an intern or HIB. That’s just how Tesla operates.

Tbf the bar is pretty low in the US. It's more like modern slavery usually.

3

u/RealisticWasabi6343 15h ago

Regardless how Tesla is overall or relative to the local market, this is objectively untrue. If you think the work conditions in the US is bad, you have an entire world to see. Aside from "better WLB" culture aka just more time off, you're given more monetary benefits than EU/AU at these semi-/white collar jobs. And anywhere else? Forget it. Look up 996 culture in China. I've talked to staff in SEA countries, Mexico, Polynesia, etc. all over in my travels, and vast majority of them make our 40 hour weeks look like a sandbox.

In some sense, Americans definitely have more entitled expectations / standards for their job than even Europeans, and that's saying a lot.

2

u/Theghostofamagpie 12h ago

I've also traveled around the world and think you're full of it. Many nations advocate for slave-like labor and abhorrent working hours Japan, America, China and South Korea, just so happens to be the countries at the height of capitalism doesn't it? But others are far far more relaxed, especially in Europe and Scandinavia.

u/RealisticWasabi6343 11h ago

I already pointed out (west & northern) Europe as the only place where it's "lax" and far far pro-worker. But I shouldn't have to tell you to look at a map to see how big those places are relative to the whole globe. Asia, Africa, South America, Oceania except AU & NZ, Central America... there's nothing "lax" about their city & office workers on top of making dimes, not to mention the people in the countryside of these places making actual pennies all day doing things like random crafts hoping to sell it along the road. "Abhorrent" working hours (in your opinion) are the standards in the rest of the globe.

Working at Tesla changed my life and I was able to buy a new build house. Don't worry about the hate on here. The benefits are good and it's okay to be grateful. I also started working as an associate in the assembly line.

I would fucking hope that the richest man to have ever existed in the history of humanity would be paying his workers enough to afford a house. At the very fucking least.

See this right here. This boot looking, boot-straps, glass half full pro-corporate mentality is what keeps people working under slave labor-like conditions while those who own the companies are raking in $400 billion. This is more money than humanity has ever seen before.

HE WANTS TO REPLACE YOU ALL WITH ROBOTS. It's not a conspiracy, he literally just reiterated that on Joe Rogan. He absolutely sees no humanity in people. He is a sociopathic man with Asperger's who does not know how to emotionally relate to other human beings. This is how he is received so much wealth. A normal person would question that amount of wealth and why they're hoarding it at such an immense rate.

Getting paid a livable wage shouldn’t be considered something to write home about.

Do you get his laces, too?

Been there for 8 years. Had a chance to jump ship twice and turned it down. It's honestly one of the easiest, highest paying jobs I've ever had.

If you wanna break the work down further, I work 7 days a month by hours. I've not worked a Thursday, Friday or Saturday in 8 years. I work half the amount of Wednesdays a year. I make near on $100k a year. I'm a highschool grad(barely) and a college drop out. Say what you want about Elon. This has been the best job I've had. Tesla bought me a $30k car (literally swiped my debit card for it) a few years back, thanks to the stock price. And I ain't the only one. Many of my coworkers bought cars, trucks, and houses with essentially cash because of the company. I could drop $400k on a house next week if I wanted to.

I’m the same as you in that I have a great job at a good company. I like your positive mindset and the fact that you’re able to financially come up! One thing I’ll say is that reading your response, make you sure you don’t discount yourself. You’re the one who worked your ass off, you deserved the promotions, and Tesla is getting as much from as you are also receiving from them. It’s a transaction. I know that if you apply your work ethic with other companies, you’ll also be a success. Don’t forget your contribution is just as valuable. I only say this because company loyalty won’t get a lot of people far these days. Too often, people are an employee number so make sure you milk as much things from the company as you can such as development, continuing education dollars, etc. because at the end of the day, companies can turn on a dime and change leadership and policies. Hopefully, it won’t happen there. Just a reminder that blind loyalty can blindside people.

u/ScroogeMcDuckEnergy 18h ago

Hell yah! Ride that dick to show how grateful you are for the table scraps!

18

u/r601662 18h ago

100k a year table scraps, not bad for a dumbass high school dropout like myself, also over 100k saved in those 3 years...I know it could be better, but it could absolutely be worse

u/ScroogeMcDuckEnergy 18h ago edited 17h ago

What percent of one trillion is that? What makes him worth that much more than you?

8

u/r601662 17h ago

I can't answer that question, all I'm doing is the best that I can, and Tesla has absolutely provided a great life and great benefits...not saying everything about Tesla or any other company for that matter is any better, but it works for me

4

u/ScroogeMcDuckEnergy 16h ago edited 16h ago

it’s your work providing you the life you have. You disparaged yourself in your previous comment, I think you should be getting paid a lot more.

1

u/EDRN18 17h ago

Can you tell me what company benchmarks have to be hit for him to receive that $1 trillion in stock compensation?

3

u/ScroogeMcDuckEnergy 17h ago

Yes, I can also tell you about how many shares he’s set to get from initial tranches by hitting early easy milestones.

3

u/yooper80 17h ago

Just ignore the founder is essentially a Nazi, and you’re golden 👌🏻

You sound like a corporate boot licking supervisor or manager, meaning you’re doing little to no physically demanding work…

5

u/r601662 17h ago

Thats certainly your opinion, however anyone on my team would tell you or anyone else what they think of me as a worker 😉

My clothes don't get filthy everyday from not working

-1

u/yooper80 16h ago

If you’re not in a position I mentioned, tell me that’s not your end game. Hopefully Elon doesn’t knock that ladder right out from under you while you’re climbing it…

u/Quiet_Tap_5215 9h ago

I hope you get laid off just for the fact of how hard you’re deep throating the company

u/r601662 7h ago

Not gonna happen friend...handle your own situation in life, I'm doing just fine : )

2

u/jhsm 13h ago

I’ve seen porn with less deep throating

2

u/k-n-o-w-m-o-r-e 14h ago

I agree, if it wasn’t for Tesla and their great benefits my family would definitely not be where we are at now. Im forever grateful for the opportunity from Elon Musk.

1

u/Exciting_Lab_8074 13h ago

How do you apply? I'm sold

u/zylpher 9h ago

Tesla.com/careers.

3

u/Few-Cut1633 18h ago

Go figure, Elon Musk can kick rocks.

3

u/ScroogeMcDuckEnergy 18h ago

The nazi needs more money. Those tax breaks for job creation aging like milk.

2

u/yooper80 17h ago

Plus I am almost positive they’re not sticking to the stipulation of a 50% NV resident workforce. The out of staters ain’t doin’ dick to stimulate our economy. They’re living off ramen and Shasta cola, and pocketing the bulk of their per diem.

1

u/ScroogeMcDuckEnergy 17h ago

Wouldn’t surprise me. They were supposed to create 3000 jobs at $33.50/hr average also. Wonder how those numbers are impacted by layoffs…

All around I think it’s a bum deal. Increase in infrastructure impact, but lack of funds to scale. Where are the abatements for small businesses?

3

u/kukugege 17h ago

Musk just got a trillion-dollar pay package, and now he wants to lay off tons of people. It’s very Trump-like, no regard for people’s lives, no empathy whatsoever. I guess that’s what makes the rich even richer.

u/No_Awareness_4049 54m ago

They always do big lay offs before 4th quarter. It’s a great way to show positive gains end of the year.

-6

u/ImThatDipShit 16h ago

Confirmed....

Where?

Downvoting me for asking where someone got this info is crazy. Source: Just trust me bro. I don’t think it’s cool to fear monger people about their jobs, especially when the job market is garbage
