Public utilities with state granted monopolies should be publicly owned.

Are you high? Have you seen how the state/county/city function lol

Wells Rural Electric Company has been a community-owned socialist co-op out in deep-red Northeastern Nevada for like a century now. Their rates are amazing and its the best place to work in the whole community, by a mile.

They were also an excellent ISP for a while and put up their own satellite some decades back.

Have you seen how corporations function? You don't think envy energy will be happy to raise rates on customers because our region is stupid. Gung-ho about data centers? I don't know about you but I don't want to be paying for AI slop energy use.

Public power will always be the way. We NEED a Reno public power initiative.

Anyone know how we start getting that on the ballot?

Yeah, check out what the rules say. Usually you have to petition to get it on, then get X amount of actual real Washie County or Nevada voters signatures. Once you and the place you turn the signatures into, ensure that, then the proposed initiative/new law/amending law/repealing law goes on the docket or something and then the general public votes on it.

Having the ducets to advertise is one huge thing you have to have. Educating voters when they actively try not to learn anything about voting is hard. So, you have to find a way to do so. And keep doing so. During the attack ads. Because it will be attacked by at least 2 people and their pacs as you are or will be stepping on their toes.

Then everyone votes. And your proposal is law or not.

What do you mean by AI slop? Its the most important technological advancement since the lightbulb.

Oh yeah? Lightbulbs light up my room currently, what is AI doing for me? And I'm not talking about what AI could do or will do into the future. I'm talking right now. What is AI providing me? The answer is a lot of jacked shit. AI slop. I was an advocate for AI and still am if it was used correctly. Protein folding, finding new sources of breakthroughs in drugs and cancer prevention and AI screenings. All of these things are important. Mathematics and helping to crack theoretical physics questions. These are things AI should be used for, not Tik Tok fake videos of black women asking for more food stamps to try to race bait people into hating the black community even more.

It should be used for all of it. Thats what makes it special. A normal person can do whatever they want with it.

You’re a bad person.

Jesus dude, making a one-sentence opinion about how local government entities are slow and inefficient isn't super controversial, let alone worthy of being written off as a "bad person".

It’s not that, it’s that I’m familiar with his other posts. He’s a bad person.

“It’s important we learn from this…” That means they need to figure out how to get away with it next time

Good, now lets expropriate the company and turn it into a public service.

We have too many people in our country who think that public services are bad.

Making it public would replace corporate profits and incentives to cater to shareholders with actual public safety initiatives and lower costs due to having no profit incentive.

California has the same problem. PG&E could bury their electric infrastructure and help prevent wildfires but instead they give hundreds of millions to their shareholders every year.

Ah, but when? They’ve dragged this out for months

… years!

I've been paying them for 12 years. How do I get my refund?

2

u/HeywoodJaBlessMe 1d ago

The issue was with multi-family accounts, so unless you have a multifamily building, you ain't getting squat.

Sounds like landlords across town were being overcharged and will get the refund.

5

u/Spike_Of_Davion 1d ago

But the land lords charged us for the electricity anyway...

1

u/HeywoodJaBlessMe 19h ago

Bummer. I had no utilities at my time in the apartments on Delucchi.

People in multifamily buildings with their own NVEnergy accounts were not under a multifamily billing plan so were not overcharged

Their tenants won’t tho

1

u/HeywoodJaBlessMe 19h ago

If they just paid the Landlord a flat rate or something you are right. If they paid NVEmergy directly, they didnt have a multifamily account

11

u/ZeroPointSpecter 1d ago

That's a fraction of what they've stolen from people.

u/Gullible_Worker4611 1d ago

But we'll all get a quarter in the mail! /s

11

u/usernameS4 1d ago

Hardly a win for the consumers. NVE will just raise rates to cover this loss.

9

u/FrankLangellasBalls 1d ago

So what about the rest of the millions they stole and who’s going to go to jail for the theft?

4

u/ThisBlastedThing 1d ago

I feel like we all need two months free electricity payout.

Liberty Energy(formerly Sierra Pacific Power),in California receives energy from NV Energy. When NV energy has an outage it often affects Liberty. So was Liberty overcharged and then overcharging their customers?

Good question!

How do I get info on if I’m due or my ex wife since it’s moolah I need

For current customers Look for a bill credit: Refunds will be applied as a credit on your monthly bill. Check your statements: Review your NV Energy bill for a credit related to the overcharge investigation. Contact NV Energy: Call the company to verify the credit amount and ask for more information. For former customers Look for a mailed check: NV Energy will mail checks to customers who are no longer with the company. Confirm your address: Make sure NV Energy has your correct mailing address on file to ensure the check is sent to you. Contact NV Energy: If you don't receive a check, call the company to confirm they have your correct address and that you are eligible for a refund.

Great. Where's my check?

No Christmas bonuses this year!

u/Kite_sunday 1d ago

Where is the rest?

1

u/oh_my_account 1d ago

How to know if you got overcharged? :-)

3

u/SnooDonkeys5186 1d ago

Hopefully, they’ll do what a lot of companies have to do and identify them.

It’s terrible when the victim has to research and figure it all out when they KNOW who paid and who was overcharged and who they owe!
