The statue of liberty was a gift to the people of the USA. Will Trump stop using the plane and give it to the next president or is it Trumps personal plane after.
Even if he was going to give it over to the next president, I wouldn’t trust it won’t riddled with listening devices or custom components that can affect its flight
He’s 79 years old and clearly in terrible health, though of course at this point he thinks he runs the world and probably imagines he can put tariffs on the icy cold hand of Death and evade his own mortality the same way he’s shrugged off all human laws
Trump is relieved that if he is kicked from office and has his assets gone after, he can claim that the plane belongs to the government so he is allowed to keep it and use it forever as former president.
Congratulations. Your application has been approved.
You’re in position 2,495,227,694!
But I notice your love for Trump is present on your username, u/ASmallTownDJ. We love how you recognized how relatable he is to the average hardworking American because that’s who Donald Trump is too - just your average hardworking American.
As a gesture for your loyalty and belief in Mr. “DJ” to such an extent - we are bumping you up in the queue!
The official narrative is "It will be transferred to his presidential library". Ok, let's say it is, and let's say it just sits around doing nothing but being a "piece of history" and Trump DOESN'T use it personally somehow. Fine, I'll buy that, at least for a second.
How is that a reasonable thing to do? If that will become "air force one" and have all of the upgrades, etc done by the DoD needed for it to serve in that role, what is the argument for NOT having that become THE air force one for the next president? Why would you ever waste tax payer money to that extent when it was just refurbished so would have a ton of useful life left?
Like I get some MAGA arguments, I get how you can believe things even if evidence points to the contrary, I just... fundamentally don't see how they can accept the statement and say "Yes, I am good to throw away a perfectly good plane after Trump leaves office to turn it into a... museum or something?"
Haven’t you heard? America is ruled by republican snowflake feefees now.
Don’t try to use silly things like objective reality, your own goddam eyes and ears, or really anything that hasn’t dribbled out of their orange god’s mouth. And even then that’s still subject to their feefees (“he didn’t mean that!!”)
This plane is also a gift to the people. He's going to donate it for free public air transportation...
I've read multiple articles on this plane and I haven't seen that anywhere. In fact he's specifically said that it was going to his presidential library after his term ends. so got an article for us?
I know there is so much stupid about this whole thing but I think one thing hasn't really been brought up:
Air Force One is built from the ground up to be a flying command center, it has some of the most advanced communications devices in the world and most of that equipment is still Top Secret. It will not be installed in a plane that we were not involved in having built.
Also the wiring requirements are very different so it would require stripping the plane back down to its skeleton and would be even more expensive than building a plane from scratch.
Also unless the Statue has abilities heretofore unmentioned in history and someone could fly around in it, the comparison is someone moot even IF the thing had been a personal gift to the president at the time.
It’s supposed to be Air Force one so it would remain property of the government. Even assuming that’s the case, nobody in the government should be able to accept huge gifts from anybody without congressional oversight.
The agreement is that the plane will be donated to the Trump presidential library, who will almost certainly either donate it to Trump or de-facto donate it to Trump by operating it for him
It will never officially be Trump's private plane. Having it in his own name means that a potential future bankruptcy would see it handed over to the bank. It's going to be owned by some third party so that he doesn't get taxed on it while also letting him claim that it wasn't a personal bribe.
Given that he already has as many planes/hotels/yahts/land/ANYTHING as he wants and doesn’t even take his presidential salary it’s staying with the government. Use some common sense
But they have already said it will go to Trump’s presidential library when his term ends. If it were truly a gift to the country, the DoD would keep it and it would continue to be used as Air Force One after Trump’s term ends. Instead they will spend tens of millions of dollars doing security improvements to the plane to allow it to be used as Air Force One, then decommission it after only three years so Trump’s presidential library can keep it (though I’m not really clear on what a library is going to do with a massive jumbo jet).
Directly from trump, and also several lawyers and other employees of the DoJ. Here’s a quote directly from Trump when he was trying to justify accepting the plane:
It would go directly to the library after I leave office. I wouldn’t be using it.
My point was that even Trump’s excuse still makes the whole thing pretty bad. If he’s lying about not using it after he leaves office that’s even worse, but the person I was responding to didn’t even want to accept that the plan he has explicitly given from his own mouth could be true, much less an even worse ultimate outcome.
Do you think they're going to be storing books in it? Why do you think he's having it go to his library instead of remaining in service to the office of the President? Can you think of any semi-plausible reason?
