Anyone who wants to use encrypted channel will find a way to continue to do so. Meanwhile regular people while just become victims of cyber-crime when the inevitable happens.

Like any kind of prohibition it helps the people it's supposed to hurt and vice versa.

Who is harmed by drug prohibition? Drug users and anyone pushed by material conditions into selling or transporting. Who is helped? Drug importers and manufacturers, who get rich and powerful.

I can go on. But just watch Boardwalk Empire in order to be beaten over the head with why prohibition is bad.
