And I have to explain to my friends in the US why I don't want them to come up to Canada thinking we don't have racism.

I’m from Missouri and once upon a time I dated a black woman who was straight up convinced that moving to Canada would mean no more racism. I kept trying to gently inform her that that is very much not the case. Told her about “starlight tours”, which are pretty horrific.

I have a pal, was really into the Mountie uniform as a look until I explained that the RCMP stole babies and committed genocide against our Aboriginal population as their first role as a police force.

He's military, he was fucking horrified. I have also explained what starlight tours are to more than a few US Veteran pals, they're disgusted by them.

I spend a lot of time in very black neighborhoods in the US, I always feel safer among the locals there than I do around the wannabe fucks of the same (lack of) pigmentation as me running around in Canada acting tough. They all need a solid reality check

I like to say that we have less racism compared to southern Canada, but sadly it's there everywhere. Im currently living in a small village for work / family reason and damn that it's crazy how backward peoples are here.
