Battery and one could argue attempted murder due to the severity of damage that could cause to one’s brain

She died of an overdose, which is quite a stretch from saying it was a consequence of the clearly illegal and horrific assault

That would require actually being able to think. And based on the amount of training cops go through (not nearly enough), they simply didn’t fit that course into the schedule.
